12oz bottle as part of the 8-15th anniversary box set for $30. Has been cellared in the closed box for a year since I bought it. 8 year anniversary beer brewed with 8000lbs of malt with 8 different grains (2-row, crystal, chocolate, victory, munich, carapils, wheat and oatmeal), 8 different hops (warrior, northern brewer, mt. hood, centennial, cascade, vanguard, tettnang, and czech saaz) and 8% abv.

Pours out to a clear very dark brown, near black, forming a tightly beaded, very creamy light tan head (like good cappuccino foam). Superior head retention and solid thick sticky sheets of lace, moderate carbonation, ~2.5 carbs or so. The nose is redolent of prunes, figs, raisins, spicy hops that have mellowed a bit, rum, carob, a little touch of bourbon, and subtle black walnut. Mouthfeel is slightly acidic due to the hops, with a medium rich, but not syrupy mouthfeel. Cleanly fermented, no off-flavors, even at this age. The taste is a recap of the aroma with a pleasant medium bitterness, in perfect balance with the malts, and some mild dark roasted malt flavor. Reminds me of a strongly hopped baltic porter, but not as roasted or astringent as a robust porter or American stout. Finish of black cherries, leather and mild pipe tobacco.

An excellent beer. My only complaint (and I'm sure I won't have to wait long considering I have the rest of the series to go) is that the mouthfeel is a touch too thin considering the flavor and abv. Highly recommended.

12oz. bottle from the 2011 Holiday Pack

(A)- Pours an almost black color with some reddish highlights. Some tan froth.

(S)- Some raisin in there. Otherwise its actually kind of a subdued smell.

(T)- A nice malty grain profile with some raisin dark fruits.

(M)- A nice carbonation level. A good mellowed balance with a basic porter feel.

(O)- Not bad for a porter; straightforward with no strings attached.

Pours a dark, cola-brown with a patchy ivory haze. Really nice aromas of brown sugar, chocolate, caramel, and roasted nuts. Sweet and malty. Taste is similarly malty and sweet, with chocolate, caramel, and some dark berry flavors. Mouthfeel is a bit thinner then I expected/hoped, probably medium-thin overall with a smooth body and moderate carbonation. Decent beer, but nothing memorable.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of black strap molasses, brown sugar and roasted malt. The flavor follows suit, with the roasted malt complimented nicely by the sweetness from the brown sugar and molasses. The alcohol is fairly well hidden. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Review from 1/2011 notes. Poured into a He'brew small shaker pint. Pours a deep reddish brown amber. Thin light brown head and lacing. Aroma of dark fruits and dark malt. Mild dark and roasted malts, some hints of chocolate. Finishes with light malt and some hoppy bitterness. Decent flavor, but subdued and almost tastes watered down. An adequate, but not exemplary porter.

This was a part of their recent Holiday pack.

This beer pours a medium bodied molasses brown in color with a watery lacing. The nose is very, very sweet. It wreaks of candied malts. The flavors are full of sugar, caramel, and watery sweet malt. This is no porter. It's syrupy sweet yet oddly really light in body. It's too sweet for the abv, the supposed style, and overall. I really don't like this one. It's just really strange.

Reviewed from session notes.

Appears the same dark brown murky color as all the other Jewbelations in my tasting session, with the signature tan single finger of fluffy head with reasonable retention but mediocre lacing.
Smells lightly of cracked black peppercorns and allspice on top of a bouquet of porter / stout malts with medium levels of dark fruit aroma.
Tastes like a blend of roasted porter malts and bold sweet malts reminiscent of optimator, but with more spicing (nutmeg, allspice, perhaps even a nuance of oxidized herbal hop tones?) behind the flavors and a slightly thinner body than I would have preferred for the heavy flavor profile.

A - Damn guess I poured too hard about 1 1/2 inch mocha head fluffy and sticky atop of a dark brown almost black beer with only a slight ruby hue at the base.

S - Roasty and malty with some coffee, tobacco, hops, and leather.

T - Wow that's dry one of the drier porters I have drank in a while. The taste is mostly dry cocoa powder that turns to a light roasted coffee flavor. I am surprised that after a while I get a sweet finish. Interesting.

M - Medium to thick body and the dry finish actually reminds me of a cup of coffee.

Overall it is one dry Baltic porter but one of the better ones I had since it's very smooth and full bodied. They really should make this part of their regular lineup.

Tried as part of the re-release pack (NB: it is a re-brew). I wrote this review in a hot tub at a hotel in Rehoboth Beach, visiting DFH. In case that colored my reasoning any.

Thin trace of tan head, some lace and surface memory. Opaque chocolate brown body.

Malt in the nose, along with some leather. Nice.

Potent dry malt in the taste (it's a Jewbelation, duh), some bitter coffee. Much more subdued and less sticky than later Jewbelations.

Kinda sudsy.

Nice, malty but mellow.
