A Godsend!!!! My wife and I are on a month long vacation in Mexico, and I thought, maybe, I would be able to buy Cucapa beer over here... No! Not even close!
So, on a resupply trip back to the U.S. I went looking for the closest bottle shop to the border, and this place was what I found. And I am very glad I found it!
A bit rough around the edges, but I like that; as my local bottle shop is Sam's Quik Shop in Durham, NC (I am one of the employees, so I know how it is running a convenience store/ bottle shop). That being said, the selection vs. space to cram it in is top notch!
The clerk was helpful as far as holding onto my beer for me while I ran across the street to get my wife out of Target, and also offered advice as to how to get more than our fair share of beer across the border (3L per person= 8 12oz beers, per person; I bought a case and 3 750s). Had no problems getting back to Mexico!
All in all, if you are in Chula Vista, and in need of craft beer; this is your spot!
Muchas Gracias Dudes!
Second time there; my wife and I are staying in Mexico for a while, and this is #1 on our resupply list when we come north of the border for beer!
These guys are super nice, knowledgeable, and convenient to the border!
Seriously, best beer selection you will find in Chula Vista (unless you don't like supporting local father and son businesses). I came across a bottle of Mikkeller/Three Floyds Boogoop! I passed it up so the guy working could try it, as I have had it and he hadn't; but his willingness to try it speaks volumes!
For real, if you need real beer close to the border; this is the only place you need to go!
Also, I tried to post a review on Yelp for them, but Yelp wouldn't let me post from Mexico! So... damn. At least the B.A's know, right?!

Tiny liquor store with a great selection of craft beer. If a brewery bottles it they have it, or they can get it for you. Best place to pick up all the special releases. And I haven't really seen a drastic markup yet, they are better than (if not comparable to) any liquor store around.
Customer service is outstanding! Especially considering that they are a liquor store, and deal with some pretty massive bullshit all day. Every time I'm in there I can barely believe the caliber of morons standing in line. There is a special place in beer heaven for the Chaldean dudes that run this amazing liquor store. I was floored the first time I went in there. Eager to help and talk. They might even share a beer with you! Glassware, national craft, and local craft they've got you covered.
Here's to hoping they get more real estate!

Great place! Has the most beer in all of south bay. You would have to go up to Bevmo to find this kind of variety and I would dare even to say they may have more. I did put "$$-reasonable" for the value even though it is a touch pricey but you are not going to find half these beers any were even close to it is very worth it. Great people working there very friendly and know there beer! Very easy to get to, they have a good verity of refrigerated and un-refrigerated beer so weather you are taking it home to drink now or for later they will have some thing for you.

South Bay Liquor is one of the few if not the only place I have found in Chula Vista where you can find craft beer. I have no complaints about the store or their selection. Their selection is great, employees are very helpful and knowledgeable and always give great suggestions if you don't know what you are looking for when you go in. I guess my only complaint is having too much to choose from, okay its not really a complaint but I do have a hard time deciding what I want to take home with me. All in all great prices, great selection. Also if there is something you are looking for in particular that they don't have stocked they will usually try to order it for you so don't be afraid to ask.

Have been here a few times to buy something I want and always walk out with something I need. There is such a good variety here. From HTF bottles to your average stash to top shelf beers. I love this place. They have a huge cooler full of awesome beer. There are two rows of just amazing stuff. If you are going to buy beer in San Diego give this place a shot...amazing. The guys who run the place are friendly and will help you with your selection. This is way South of downtown. The best place by far in oldskool Chula Vista. Who would have known.

Finally had a chance to hit this place up. Store looks like an ordinary liquor store but when you turn the corner and see the beer selection there is nothing ordinary. Most of the selection is out on shelves. Cooler doors are stocked solid with all the usual IPA's and DIPA's from around town. Including Alpine, Alesmith and Coronado. My only gripe is the prices on some of the harder to get beers. $15.99 for Expo? Really, selling for $7.99 at the brewery. Other beers are a little more then everyone else but not overpriced like a certain beer store in Carlsbad. Guy at the counter was extremely helpful and when I mentioned I couldn't find a certain beer he took the time to go in the back since he said he saw some and grabbed me what I was looking for. Overall great selection and service but ease up on the prices a little and you will get all my business on special releases.

South Bay Liquor is the best beer store in the South Bay. HANDS DOWN. With the loss of South Bay Drugs, I needed to find someplace that had a quality selection of craft brews. This place has a little bit of everything. If you're in a Belgian kinda mood, they have a decent selection of beers from Europe. Need a good west coast IPA? They are one of the very few stores that carry the very hoppy Alpine beers (Pure, Expo, Nelson, Duet) They have a good selection of styles from around the country. Three coolers for bombers and 12ozs, and 2 for 6 packs are also very welcome. The staff is very knowledgeable (Joe, the owner is the cousin of Sid from Best Damn Beer Shop). Prices are about what you'd expect, and sometimes they don't keep up with inventory rotation, but that's bound to happen anywhere. Overall, if you need solid craft beer in Chula Vista this should be your first and only stop.
