a half finger of bright white foam sits atop a crystal clear bright golden body. smells of apples and pears with a touch of cinnamon and clove. also shows some traces of bready yeast and hops. the taste is outstanding, tart crisp fruits lead the way to a well balanced bready malt body with traces of yeast and hops. mouthfeel is very sharp at first with a creamy feel to the body and a short crisp finish. as the beer warms the alochol comes out from hiding, but never dominates. this is an excellant beer and at $8 a bottle i will be buying more of these.

Appearance: Clear; gold; small head; effervescent

Aroma: Fruity; spicy; wine-like

Taste: Peppery; well-balanced; this beer is pilsner-like, which isn't my favorite style

Remarks: Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; so please disregard those scores

Pale, sparkly golden color with a huge white frothy head. Good retention with some spotty lacing. Those bubbles just keep on coming, almost looks like a glass of champagne.

Straw, earthy, mild Belgian yeast aromas with some candy sweetness, like a cross between a German pilsner and Belgian pale ale, leaning more towards the pilsner end. Not super exciting.

Taste is much more complex. It still starts with the earthy, grainy flavors, but immediately is joined by some mellow, well blended banana/clove, bready, sugary sweetness that matches everything else pretty equally in strength. Subtly complex, and no alcohol bite as far as I can tell.

Thin, crisp, effervescent, with heavy carbonation, but not at the level I expected from the look. Super smooth and refreshing.

Very nice, refreshing, deceptively complex, and smooth. This one screams summertime to me, but I'd have to watch that ABV, since it's totally unnoticable. Don't find a whole lot of this style, I'm glad I got to try it.

Appearance. Pours a clear yellow gold with two fingers of frothy white head.

Smell. Apples, yellow grapes, pears, light grainy malt, light pepper and spice.

Taste. Champagne, apples, cloves and savory spice, bitter grass.

Mouthfeel. Lighter than medium body, medium-strong carbonation.

Overall. An interesting beer, just not my style.

Served from a 75 ml bottle (bought in France) into a goblet.

A - Beer is pale gold and clear with just the slightest hint of haze. Head is pure white and made of miniscule bubbles. It is not very persistent, but stays as a thick ring around the glass and a spotty thin sheet. Tiny bubbles constantly rise and this could easily be mistaken for a glass of champagne.

S - Aroma is very clean, light and balanced. It is a gentle mix of cracked pilsner grain and lemony, grassy hops. There is a bit of alcohol booziness in the background. Yeast characteristics not detectable, except maybe a tiny hint of black pepper.

T - The taste is sharper than expected after the gentle aromas. The black pepper is back and mixes with a moderate hop bitterness. The slightly acrid grainy note is back as well, but balanced by grassy hops. Very cleanly fermented--no yeast notes.

M - Light body. Smooth carbonation. Hops and alcohol give a light burn, but subtle. Very dry on the palate with little aftertaste.

O - Incredibly well-crafted and clean with great attention to detail. Enough flavor to be interesting without being extreme in any area. Maybe it's too airbrushed and perfect, because somehow it doesn't blow me away.

A:
Pours a nice clear straw color with an airy, ample head, with some nice lacing, that calms down but never disappears .

S:
Smells exactly like it should. I don't know how else to say it. It has a nice strong hoppiness and some sweet doughy aromas.

T:
Crisp, clean, lightly hoppy, refreshing. Delicious.

M:
Crisp and clean. A nice, round, sweet warmth accompanied by a biting carbonation and a clean, tingling finish.

O:
A very, very solid brew. It is exactly what/how it should be. Succeeds where others consistently fail.

From a 750 ml brown bottle, corked and held down with what appears like a giant staple. Pours out a bright clear pale golden hue, tall spongy white head that initially fills up half the glass, settling to a thing frothy cap with traces of thick lacing.

Clean grains and biscuity malt on the nose, some faint grassy, spicy hops.

Clean grains and very clean spicy phenols up front in the flavour, dry peppery spice throughout, mild citrus on the finish cuts through the phenols a bit, with some tangerine rind on the aftertaste accompanying the lingering peppery spice.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter end of medium-bodied, silky slick texture that is juxtaposed by some brisk effervescent carbonation.

While this isn't a very typical style to be found around North America, this import is an absolute delight and an excellent ambassador of the style. On its merits alone this is an amazingly clean tasting ale that exhibits the talent and craftsmanship of the people who produced it--none of this happens by chance. Definitely worth seeking out, especially if this is the only Bière de Garde that you ever try, or simply the first.

Pours a very clear light golden, almost lemon color. Slightly off-white, small-bubble head with staying power. Nice lacing during drinking. Odors of grass, lemon, and malt, with alcohol and nuts taking a lesser role. Broad, complex taste with a somewhat bitter and bright/metallic start and a mellow, malty, slightly hoppy finish. Champagne-like bubble mouth feel, but plenty chewy as well. All around a great tasting ale suitable for spring and summer enjoyment. Just lovely.
