Remember that girl from high school? Prom queen, captain of the cheerleading team? She was incredibly hot. The problem was, she knew she was incredibly hot, and acted like a stuck-up bitch to pretty much everyone. Of course, all the boys kept coming around nonetheless, because she had the goods, bitch or not.
Remember when you used to buy records in record stores? Remember the record store clerk? The ridiculously hip kid behind the counter who was cooler than you and listened to much better music, and when you brought your U2 or Springsteen album up to the counter, he'd look at you like you had leprosy because he couldn't believe that he was selling such mainstream music to a sad sack like yourself? The look in his eyes when he handed you your bag said "Get this crap out of my store and don't come back until you've developed some taste."
Now let's say that the prom queen and the record store clerk got together and had a bunch of kids. Those kids are now all grown up, and they all work at the brewpub at Three Floyds. They have some of the best beer in the country and they know it and are consequently quite full of themselves. And if you show up and behave yourself and don't ask too many stupid questions, they just might be convinced to stoop and share that beer with you, you little lame-o. But only if they're in the mood. You better be grateful the popular kids let you hang out with them sometimes.

no need to google the definition of perfection. it is here. the combination of the delicious beer with pizza, fear and loathing being projected on a wall, and constant grindcore music playing was absolutely divine. i want to crawl into the wall and live there. we were seated right away, and the staff was awesome. after it was done we walked a few steps over to get a shit ton of bottles to take back to michigan with us. it was such a great time

so, i have a love/hate relationship with this place (as i'm sure others do as well): i LOVE the beer, love the food, HATE the fact that ueber popularity has turned it into a place with a 2hr wait on a thurs afternoon at 2pm.
seriously, we all know the beer's fantastic. enough said. the food, while good, always seems a bit pricey for what you get. they attempt to get all gourmet, and for the most part succeed, but in the end, you're left paying above average premium bar food prices for a menu that is above average, but prep-wise, always seems a bit behind. it's like their menu ambition outstripped their cook's abilities....
anyways, there's no whining i can do that will change anything they do, and why should they? the package store is nearly ALWAYS sold out of even the basics (sold out of alpha king? seriously?), so they know they're either doing it perfectly right and laughing all the way to the bank, or they need to step it up to the next level, and actually brew to demand and step up to the gourmet bar and SERVE the type of food they aspire to serve.

I was able to stop by Three Floyds for the first time on a road trip that brought me near Chicago. I've heard a lot about their beers, but had never been able to try them, as I live down in Georgia and am far outside their distribution radius. After reading a lot of negative comments and reviews about the service and atmosphere at the brewery, I was pleasantly surprised. I found the service to be oustanding and had a great time!
I arrived around 6pm on a Tuesday, the week of the 4th of July holiday. After hearing about the crowds and lines, I was surprised to see the parking lot only half full and no one standing in line outside. I started out at the take-out window to check the selection for me to carry back to Georgia. Unfortunately, they were sold out of all their more popular beers in cases, but had four bombers available. The guy working the take-out counter was very helpful describing the beers they did have available and was apologetic that some renovations in the brewery were the cause of the selection being so poor. He suggested coming back in 2-3 weeks for better selection. I wish it was that easy for me to get back there! I picked up some Dreadnaught, Gorch Foch, Apocolypse Cow, and Artic Panzer Wolf, loaded them in the car, and headed in to the pub.
The pub was only about half full, which probably contributed to the high level of service. I sat at the bar and couldn't have asked for a more friendly bartender. He was very informative and didn't let me sit more than 30 seconds with an empty glass. I tried several of their more popular beers and a couple I hadn't heard of and loved them all, with the exception of Tiberian Inquisitor, which was very different and not really my thing. When I ordered it, the bartender was kind enough to offer me a free tasting sample since he knew the beer wasn't for everyone. The Masonic Rite was a great choice I hadn't heard of before. I didn't mind the blaring heavy metal music in the background, but I can see how that might be annoying to some. I ordered the pulled pork BBQ sandwich. It was one of the better BBQ's I've ever had, which is saying a lot being from the south. I ordered food after the 4th beer, so that could have contributed to how good it tasted as well.
I would highly recommend a stop by the brewery for anyone that hasn't visited. I know I will be making it a point to get back there anytime I'm in the Chicago area.

A - A little small inside, a little dark, metal music playing over the speakers. I can easily see how people would not like this vibe. But halfway through my first pint, I really started diggin' it.
Service was average to good. I expected a lot worse after hearing horror stories about the service, but my servers were friendly and service was prompt. Nothing to complain about.
Selection of beers was outstanding, many different style represented with two guest taps. Looks like you can do flights, but it's not listed anywhere on the menu or draft board.
I had the burger, it was surprisingly fantastic. The herb fries were tasty too. I'd absolutely go back if I'm ever in the area again.

Finally as able to stop at FFF on my way to Milwaukee for our yearly family vacation.
Neat little place in an industrial park in Munster. Cool atmosphere. The place was separated into 3 separate quadrants, the bar area, eating area, and to go area. But, on to the review...
I'll start off by saying, the service I received in the eating area was far below average. I got there at around 1 pm, and they must have only had the one guy serving. He was very short with us, and just seemed like he had better things to do. All of my questions were met with curt, one word answers. So I ordered food and a zombie dust, and left him alone. ZD was awesome! Food, not so much. I had the chicken sandwich, it was good, but I could've made better at home. It was dry and more bread than anything else. Selection of tap beers was excellent, to go beers....POOR. I know they are going through Some equipment issues, but gimme a break. Nothing I couldn't get at the retail store down the street. Extremely disappointed that I was not able to get any ZD to go. I did pick up a few bombers that I'm sure I will surely enjoy.
The best part of the experience (and the reson why the service score isn't lower) was the guy behind the to go counter. He was busy but still took the time to treat me like the paying customer I was, unlike the jackass in the eating room.
Overall I was disappointed with FFF. I'm hoping that it was just a bad day for service, and I know they're production will pick back up once the new equipment is up and running. I guess I just picked a bad day to go.

I've been to Three Floyds a few times now but it hasn't lost its luster.
The atmosphere is every bit as eclectic, authentic and accomplished as the beers. They have great music, a varied and interesting decor and a comfortable atmosphere. The crowd is usually passionate and diverse.
The beer is phenomenal. FFF knows hops like few others (only RR and Alpine come to mind). I really enjoy Gumballhead, Zombie Dust, Dreadnaught, Arctic Panzer Wolf and Apocalypse Cow. They're all outstanding but I was surprised to find myself favoring the smaller beers; especially Zombie Dust. Maybe it's my age.
The service certainly depends on the crowd size. On busier visits, I've felt a bit neglected. But after being shut out by long lines once, I'm always happy just to get in.
The food is fantastic! On our latest visit, we had the brisket tacos, short rib burger, mac & cheese and poutine tots. They're all pretty rich but are out of this world!
Three Floyds does everything right. I just wish it were bigger.

The lady and I cut our rollercoastering day at six flags short to get some beer and grub at 3floyds (my first time when it wasn't DLD). When we pulled up there were cars parked on the street and people waiting outside the door, but after getting our name on the list we waited a mear 10 minutes for prime spots at the bar.
We both started the night off with a couple of Zombie Dusts's, fresh as you can get, and ordered our food. I ordered the briscuit tacos and she the alpha king dog. As we waited for our food to arrive we admired the decore of retired 3F beers on the beam above us, metal band merch and horror movie toys (just like my bedroom in high school!)
The food arrived (looking amazing) and of course we needed some more beverages, (Tiberian Inquisitor and Evil Power), The smokey meaty briscuit tacos where phenomenal. After we had a couple more beers we took a mosey on over to the bottle shop to get some booty for home. The ONLY reason... I am putting 4.75 instead of 5 for selection was because I wasn't able to get any ZD from the bottle shop... but there's always next time! Cheers and go to 3Floyds

Three Floyds is such a cool place. I know metal isn't a girl thing but I can thrash sometimes so i think it's cool. I like the whole vibe. The dark and evil thing they got going on with the music and the labels and the look. I used to come here every couple of week ends visiting my parents in Hammond. Their food menu is good andf theres a good amount of stuff on it for a brewpub, definately some good quality. Service is always iffy, but the people are cool. It's FFF though and it's about the beer. It doesn't get much better then that.
