Aroma pretty straight forward for me-hop flower, pink grapefruit and papaya.

This turns into a hop bomb! Big and bold! Definite caraway, white pepper, burnt caramel, honeyed biscuit and grapefruit pith. Like chewing on a hop head. Beautiful lacing.

Mouthfeel is semi sticky and pleasant hop aftermath.

Another FFF masterpiece. Nothing to prove, but again showing what an exceptional brewery they are.

A - Clear amber, orange with a fluffy white head and patchy lace.

S - Grapefruit, orange zest, spicy rye and tropical fruit.

T - Grapefruit, spicy rye, lingering pine, tropical fruits. Some bitterness but a lot of hop flavor. Some candied citrus sweetness.

M - Medium body with good carbonation.

D - I saw a review call this man candy and I can't argue with that statement. Hoppy but with enough sweetness. I don't think 3F can do a bad hoppy beer.

Bomber poured into a tulip

A- Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a two finger of a slightly off white head. Noticeable alcohol legs.

S- This beer is a citrus BOMB. There is a ton of pineapple, mango, oranges and a slight pine on the nose. Not much rye, if any but a very sweet malt backbone.

T- Not as much of an intense bitterness at first but a huge hop flavor. This is again, a citrus bomb. There is more pineapple, mango, lemon and pine then I know what to do with. There is also a nice bit of of a herbal hop note and an ever so slight spice from the rye. Malt flavor is not very existent on their own but they do back the hops quite well and extenuate the hop flavors, which are this beers main focus.

M- Not as palate destroying as I was expecting but a hopped up beer never the less. A slightly spice and incredibly fruity aftertaste. Drinks quite easy and keeps you wanting more.

O- Like many of 3F beers, it isn't quite what you would expect from the style but as a hop head, I don't really care.

From a 22 ounce bomber.

A. Yellowish amber appearance with a nice three finger, pillowy white head that recedes slowly. Laces like the dickens. Nearly perfect.

S. Mango, pineapple, pine, hop oils and bready grain. Nicely done.

T. Complex fruity entry of pineapple and citrus. Hop bitterness, pine and rye pokes through on a fairly long finish.

M. Medium bodied with nice carbonation.

O. A very enjoyable and drinkable beer from FFF. This stuff is fresh and it really shows. I need to grab another bottle before this disappears. Highly recommended.

Presentation: Big thanks to Brydeen for this bomber bottle. Chilled and poured into my Dogfish Head tulip.

Appearance: Bright orange in color. Maybe a touch cloudy but pretty clear for the most part. Pours a nice, white, creamy, two finger head with good retention. Leaves a nice lacing all along the glass.

Aroma: Really nice pineapple and tropical fruit sweetness. A touch of bitter pine as well. A touch of a bready tone as well. Really nice fruity and citrusy tones throughout.

Taste: Tons of citrus and pineapple tones from the hops. A lot more on the tropical and citrus side than pine, but there is a touch of pine bitterness at the end. An interesting, spicy, slightly bready note at the end from the rye.

Mouthfeel: Surprisingly crisp and refreshing upfront. There's definitely some body to this beer but its drinks very light.

Overall, a really crisp and refreshing double IPA. The rye does add a nice dimension and mixes well with the sweet tropical tones from the hops. Really drinkable and tasty considering the ABV. Definitely a nicely made beer.

A: clear light gold. Half inch slightly off-white head. Some lacing. Tiny flecks of unfiltered goodness at the end of the bottle.

S: Tiny hint of rye hidden behind big Three Floyd's nose (hard to describe and hard to mistake).

M: Pointy bubbles with a soft base.

T: Carmeled grapefruit with a pleasantly bitter counter weight. No noticeable rye. Another solid brew from the masters at Three Floyds.

On tap at Strong Ale.

A: Effulgent orange with no clarity though a nice color. Big frothy white head.

S: Strong pine resin with lots of orange and grapefruit rind and flesh. Pungent hop presence with a bit of bread and biscuit.

T: Juicy orange and grapefruit with notes of biscuit and rye that provide a solid foundation for the hop expression. Huge hop flavor with a smooth lower moderate bitterness. Very well hidden alcohol.

M: Medium body with upper medium carbonation.

Overall: Toward the balanced end of the Double IPA spectrum but still very nice. Well done.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating but was purchased recently. Pours extremely hazy orange amber color with a very nice 2-3 finger dense off white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of huge mango, pineapple, grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, rye spiciness, pine, floral, herbal, and citrus rind. Fantastic aromas with great balance of hop complexity and rye malts. Taste of pineapple, mango, grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, spicy rye, light pine, bread, floral, citrus rind, earthiness, and herbal spiciness. Good amount of earthy citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, mango, grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, bread, pine, floral, rye spiciness, citrus rind, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance and complexity of hop flavors; with a very nice balance with the rye spiciness; zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, sticky, and slightly crisp mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic imperial Rye IPA! Great hop flavor complexity and malt balance with the rye; very smooth and easy to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.

A - cloudy, hazy orange with a huge, off white head that has great retention

S - oranges, grapefruit, bread, cake batter, alcohol

T - grapefruit, citrus, cake batter sweetness

M - medium bodied, well carbonated

I really enjoyed this beer, but I was hoping for some profound rye notes. I didn't get any rye in fact. I really enjoyed the hop character, and I have a soft spot for cake batter-like sweetness. Despite the lack of rye notes, I was impressed. It's definitely worth a try.

Had on tap at FFF. Review from notes.

A: Pours a hazy orange color with a large white head made up of fine bubbles. Decent head retention and lacing.

S: Big citrus aroma, lots of grapefruit and orange zest mixed with some spicy rye and pepper.

T: More big citrus fruits up front, orange, grapefruit, and a bit of pineapple. Some bready and caramel malt with a kick of spice near the finish.

M: A big medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Slightly bitter finish.

O: A very solid beer, a spicy Dreadnaught. Should have had more of it.

The beer is straw yellow and mildly hazy with a thick white cap. The aroma offers a bouquet of tropical fruits atop a sturdy malt bill. Tangerines, pineapple, grapefruit blend beautifully with bread and biscuit flavors. Robust and full bodied with ample carbonation. Alcohol content is hidden well. Another very tasty offering from FFF.

ripe tropical fruit, juicy, with hints of tangerine.

very balanced malt to hop ratio. lots of sweet malt with a strong tropical vibe. rye is very faint if noticeable at all. i found tigers little bro, lightening, far more spicy.

full with a mild carbonation

good but nothing mind blowing. i would drink again.

Thanks to AtlCarl for a great recent trade involving all sorts of things I'd been lusting after. You know if a guy you're trading with for the first time hits you up while on vacation & says "Hey, you want this beer?" that it's going to be a good swap. 22 oz. bottle split with my wife.

Pour is the first liquid to touch my sparkling new 7venth Sun Brewery glasses (thanks Brian!), & it's murky, opaque orange. Nose is surprisingly fruit along with a double-fistful of earhty rye. Nice beginning.

Rye'da Tiger is like a little touch of Jamaican soil dropped into a V-Mango-8. Mango & fruits from warmer climes are jarred with a forearm of bitterness to the teeth. The rye shows as a mix of the earthiness & spice - I usually find one or the other, but they're both ringing the bell. The mixture is sublime. Ice-slippery, Rye'da is a brief ride. It's not going to last long.

I find 3F seriously inconsistent; this beer shows off the Alpha King side of the brewery & not the, well, shitty side. Seriously excellent beer.

Bomber poured into a FFF tulip

A - Bright, hazy orange with brown undertones. Poured with a big head comprised of many small carbonation bubbles. Leaves nice lacing down the sides. There are also a small amount of floaters as well

S - Citurs mixed with rye and pepper come up in the nose. I pick up orange, grapefruit, rye bready, and a slight hint of pepper.

T - Sweet orange comes first. As the beer progresses, there is a rye, bready malt that comes through along with a slight pepper spice and a hint of caraway seeds. The hops comes through on the end with a slight bitter grapefruit that lingers in the finish along with the rye.

MF - Thick and sticky sweet beer that has light carbonation. Leaves a slight hoppy residue that lingers on the tongue in the finish.

O - This is essentially a Rye version of Dreadnaught. It's a sweet and malty beer that has a nice hop presence on the back end. The rye adds a nice dimension to give it a nice bready malt and a slight pepper presence.

Poured into a pint glass from the bomber. The other half of the bottle was used in Smoked Gouda Soup, and it was fabulous. Leaving a nice off-white head, the beer was a copper color with tons of sediment floating in the glass. The sediment reminds me of a winter snow globe. The initial aroma is hops, this is obviously a beer by the Floyds. One also gets the alcohol in the aroma, but this is a minor issue. In the initial taste, the beer bursted with grapefruit like hops. A citrusy pineapple, a hint a peach skin and some pine were also present. Where this beer gets interesting is in the aftertaste. The tartness of the rye is accompanied by a grapefruit marmalade accent. The thicker texture really allows the flavor to linger and mellow on the tongue. And while the citrus mellows, the rye just seems top stay. A mild alcohol warming makes an impression, though it is surprisingly mellow for the ABV. Overall, this is a great beer. Best of all, no lines outside the building necessary for this one.

Great label, even better idea for a brew: a rye DIPA. Cheers!

A: A little haze on the pour, but it’s mostly a clean orange, pretty fizzy. The head is short and cream-colored, not moving from its original height of a half-inch; it’s a solid layer of foamy cream. Sparse spots of lacing.

S: A pungent, yet polished Three Floyds experience: hop aromas come out first in a big way, but with balance. In some other beers from this brewery, there’s a clear layering of juicy hops over caramel malts. Not here, though: the hops are a sweet and spicy mix of pepper, citrus, peach, and grass, and the malts have a good rye tone of pumpernickel spice and toffee. It all comes out spiced and dark, and I like it.

T: Not as crisp as the nose would have you believe, coming off more like a black ale than a spicy rye. Toasted malt flavors are what you notice first, toffee, near-burnt bread, dark pumpernickel tastes developing slowly and smoothly over the drink. It has a bit of anise, too, which makes it even more reminiscent of a black ale. Herbal, spicy hops give this a fiery cinnamon and lemon-pepper profile – more flavor than bitterness. This palate seems to be more about flavor maturity than hardcore IPA hoppiness. Finishes with a lingering dark spice, like the aftertaste of a garlic-heavy Italian dish (not in a bad way).

M: Excellent here: full feeling, though it keeps away from a syrupy thickness. Just chewy enough.

O: Maybe it’s my love of Dio talking, but this was one of the most satisfying Three Floyds beers I’ve had in a while. Usually I don’t like big black ale tastes (anise especially), but this has enough Three Floyds flair to counteract the norm; it’s something different from this brewer, and they nailed it.

Thanks to Robbie for this bottle! About 1-2 months old (but no bottle dating).

A - Medium orange, slightly cloudy with ahin layer of cream-colored head.

S - A massive frsh grapefruit aroma up front with a big pine presence as well. Some lighter peach notes and touch of spicy from the rye provide secondary aromas. Very fresh and very inviting nose!

T - Fresh grapefruit, pine and peach flavours accompany a very good but not overwhelming bitterness. Light caramel and spice from the malt base in the background. Very fresh and juicy.

M - Medium body. Chewy. Light carbonation. Lots of stick hop oils.

Poured into a medium sized stemmed tulip and served at 45 degrees.

Appearance: Bright orange color body with a white fluffy 2 finger head. Beautiful lacing, great carbonation and effervescence.

Aroma: Ridiculous tropical and citrus fruits, spicy rye, wheat, floral and piney hop aromas, caramel, bready malts & yeast on the back end. The aroma is so bright, strong, inviting and prevents you from putting down your glass.

Taste: Ripe and tart grapefruit, apricot, mango, orange, apple skin and lemon fruit. Spicy rye bread, zesty yeast notes, pine resin, earthy wheat elements, and mild bitter floral hops. The malts and barley are solidly represented, smooth. The malts really balance out the sweetness and the bitterness that dominate. This reminds me of 3FFF’s Dreadnaught but with rye malt added to the grist.

Mouth feel: Medium to full bodied, carbonation is perfect, drinks smoothly, fulfilling, refreshing, and almost too drinkable.

Overall: I am really impressed at how drinkable, balanced and well-crafted this is. I drank the entire bottle in less than 15 minutes and I only put the glass down once only for a refill! This is easily one of the top DIPA’s that 3Floyds brews and the best Double Rye IPA that I’ve had currently to date! I’m looking forward to getting this again! I’m positive that they will be releasing this again later this year, so do not pass this one up!

Shared 3 ways at lunch.

Slightly cloudy, orange pour. Some white head, solid retention. Strong aroma of fresh hops and rye, both prominent.

Hoppy resin and intense rye consume my palate, malt be damned! Unfortunately for them, I don't really like rye, and its abundance here is a turn off.

If rye and west coast IPAs are your thing, this is for you.

A - Pours a hazy orange/gold color with a massive billowing head and incredibly sticky lacing, carbonation is small and steady.

S - Alot of sweet, juicy, assertive and pungent fruit resin: mango, papaya, tangerine, and pineapple being the strongest aroma of the bunch. The only indication of malt anywhere in the nose is from the spicy rye and nothing else.

T - Taste follows the nose with a massive wall of resinous and oily tropical from start to finish. Up front is a massive wave of pineapple rinds, mangos, and tangerines and ends with a perfect sweet red grapefruit bitterness. The rye lends itself to a spicy, peppery character that adds to the intensity of the frutiness - lingering fruity spice. As the beer gradually warms a slight touch of caramel malt surfaces but it's buried way down there. There is some alcohol effervescence and warming as it slides down the throat.

M - Medium body, semi-dry finish, slightly oily, and with prickly carbonation.

O - For any lover of Imperial IPA/D-IPA's, this is a "fantabulous" beer and a must try before it starts fading. Thanks, jisom123!!

Thanks to Karsten for this. Very welcome in the Lone Star State.

A - poured vigorously into a tulip. Majestic. Sunset gold with slightly off-white, huge head. Carbonation is clearly evident. Really nice lacing. Can't find a fault, it's beautiful.

S - floral and sweet, citrus hops. Heavenly. I'm not getting a lot of maltiness, but I suck at picking that stuff out. It smells like heaven, honestly. That's it. Like ZD, or Lunch.

T - definitely sweet and fruity up front. There is a little spiciness in the middle of the tongue, which is followed by a nice hop bitterness. Not overpowering by any means though. The balance on this thing is amazing.

M - medium, well-carbonated, and a little oily. The bitterness sticks around for a bit but doesn't get annoying.

O - I'll admit that DIPAs are my favorite style, and the rye addition is excellent. I also didn't think Rye'd da Lightning was out of this world, so my expectations were a little low. However, it's hard for me to find a fault here. Seriously, the guys in Munster have outdone themselves. This is insanely good, and might be worth giving up a child for. Not a first-born, but one of the later ones for sure.

Very aromatic with a juiciness to the aromas of hops, Florida oranges, mangoes, and florals.

Full bodied with good depth and flavors of hops, mangoes and Florida oranges.

This was a really good DIPA. This didn't show much booze to it either and held the style really well

Hill Farmstead wine glass

A: Pours a hazy cloudy orange color. Not a ton of head. Thin ring of white. Not a ton of lacing. Carbo low?

S: Well it fairly malty. I guess with a double rye IPA, that's what you get. Getting some nice hop character too: orange, citrus, pine the usual players. That rye spice is there.

T: Lots of hop bitterness on tip of tongue. The rye spice is there in the middle, along with a strong malt bill. I guess my palate was fatigued. This one is really starting to grow on me. As you drink those hop flavors come out more. Dry spicy finish. Lingering hop flavors.

M: Medium bodied.
