Appearance: Slight has on a dark gold body. Head is bright-white and drops to a small bubbly loose collar. Spots of lacing.

Smell: Loaded with orange and grapefruit. Bright fleshy fruit. Solid malt backbone. Sweet bready elements. Some peach and tangerine. Pale and sweet. Some pithy bitterness in the back. Sweet. Pine and grapefruit rind. A bit of snappy cracker. Vague herbal spiciness as well. Straight up booze.

Taste: Orange flesh. Pithy grapefruit. Loaded with pine. Malts are sweet and biscuit. Some thin clean pale maltiness. Leafy and herbal. A ton of hop aggression. Touches of mint. Pushes toward marmalade. Pale sweet malt. Crackers and biscuits. Floral, very floral. Spearmint and fruit preserves. So much orange. Undercooked dough. Cooked pale grains.
Sharp bit of alcohol on the back.

Mouthfeel: Juicy medium body. Moderate to light carbonation. Some astringency.

Overall: Uh, it's aggressive.

Better than Boogoop, but that's about it. Hoppy and sweet. Boozy.

Appearance: Hazy orange - white head, fades to nice wisp of a cap that sticks around, leaves some nice lacing

Smell: A rice barleywine? Honestly, this smells more like an IPA (win) - citrusy - orange, grapefruit, and some tropical notes including a ton of mango - malts are interesting - bread and some white rice - some pine, too

Taste: Citrus, rice, and bread - oranges, tangerines, and mango - oily pine - bitterness is low despite the hoppiness - lightly bready with some serious rice - a lot of booze and grass in the finish - decent balance overall

Mouthfeel: Full body, smooth, lightly sticky, nicely carbonated

Overall: Mad goop, yo

This is a very strange beer. Very hoppy, with a strong undercurrent of rice. It's reminiscent of a bizarre Asian cuisine.

22 oz bottle courtesy of Stephanie, thanks for mule-ing this back! Pours a hazed, light gold color with a bubbly white head, a few wispy strands of lace.

Nose is uber-hoppy, and reminds me of Zombie Dust. Sharp and leafy, with a biscuity malt. Grainy without a doubt and has an aroma of the dust around the crusher at the homebrew shop.

Taste is light bodied grainy sweetness with a nice shot of wheatgrass-y hoppiness. I find it to be more wheatwine than barleywine, its got a wheat tanginess to it along with a strong alcohol and the body is most definitely lighter than any other barleywine I have had. It is smooth though and the ABV is really well integrated considering what it is hiding behind. Tasty treat here, me likey.

Poured from bomber bottle into tulip glass. A hazy, cloudy orange color with a massive white head lacing around glass.

Complex aroma of hops with pine resin, orange, mango and some pineapple. Very little malt presence. Big in your face hops where aroma feels like I can eat the hops. Reminds me of Dreadnaught.

Taste is all hops and very similar to their other Doubles. Big bitterness, complex hop flavor. Some subtle sweet caramel notes. The rice malt gives smooth but cleaner and dry finish. It's very subtle versus the other DIPAs they make. I can't even tell the malt is there, the hops dominate. Total Cascade.

Heavy bodied beer as you would expect but very easy drinking. Hides ABV too well.

I didn't touch this beer for a while and thought I might not like it because of the rice build but it's very hard to tell the difference. Very creative and awesome beer. I love FFF.

Three Floyds & Mikkeller Risgoop

Appearance: This rice barleywine collaboration pours what looks like an IPA/IIPA. It is a slightly golden orange color with no evident carbonation. There is not much head, only a finger or so of white foam, and it is gone very quickly. The sediment is clearly there and creates a haziness, but it is not unappealing. There are no alcohol legs, and the lacing is nothing special, just like the rest of the appearance.

Aroma: There is lots of citrusy aroma here, with grapefruit and pink grapefruit dominating. Oranges are there, too. There is a faint, sweet toast/cracker malty smell, but the malt is mostly hidden. This basically smells like a Three Floyds beer, with nothing really standing out as unique. Still, the folks at Munster set a high bar so this is decent praise.

Taste: Three Floyds’ typical hop character comes through initially, which is immediately followed by a sweet, ricey, malty flavor, almost like horchata mixed with cajeta, the classic Spanish class drink. The rice is quite prominent, and it is actually welcome. The hops are rindy and bitter as well as grapefruity, lemony, and overall a citrus blast. Stop the presses, an intentionally adjunct beer that tastes good?! This definitely tastes nothing like a barleywine, however, so a half-point deduction needs to be asserted.

Mouthfeel: Not much to say here. The mouthfeel is medium, creamy, and the carbonation is perfect. The hops provide great astringency, and the finish is surprisingly dry. I would have liked some more syrupy feel, considering the style, but it is not unpleasant. The alcohol comes through in a very, very slight warmth at the tail end of the drink.

Overall: The rice adjunct really works well in capable hands. This beer is interesting tasting, but it really, really eschews style, even for the American persuasion of barleywine. Even Behemoth is not as ridiculously hopped as this beer. This is the first time I have been able to see what people are saying with Three Floyds overhopping their beers, and it really hurts the beer by throwing it more into the IIPA world and out of the barleywine world. Still, it tastes great for an IIPA, and that is really all that matters. 14.5/20

22 oz bottle, poured into a snifter.

A - Orange/amber color, about an inch of head, settles quickly.

S - Citrusy hop smell, reminiscent of FFF's IPAS/IIPAS.

T - Taste is also citrusy, with slight maltiness. I can't taste the rice at all.

M - Sticky, hop flavor coats the tongue.

O - Not what I was expecting, much more of a Double IPA than a Barleywine, a solid beer, but not too different from FFF's other hop bombs.

Honey-amber pour, slightly hazy, a small off-white head settled to a thick collar, leaving splotchy lacing on the glass. Fruity esters on the nose, caramel candy, slight earthy hop notes. More caramel candy in the taste, sweet overripe fruits, citrus zest, earthy hops, somewhat of a caramelized rice cake or caramel corn sensation, but that could just have been my brain processing the fact that this is a ricewine...or it could've been authentic. Medium body, medium carbonation, slightly oily, with a slightly drying finish thanks to the mild yet lingering hop presence. Alcohol was pretty well hidden, making this a pretty drinkable brew overall.

A- This beer pours a slightly hazy bright orange body with a gentle carbonation of tiny bubbles. There is a sticky antique white head that last and last

S- The blast of beautiful hops almost sting the nose with aromas of pineapple weed and pale green hop flowers that smell just pick of the bine.

T- The mellow creamy note blends to fresh pineapple weed and dandelion flower hop flavors finish to a dry mellow but full pungency that has some nice bitterness as it opens up.

M- This beer has a medium-light crisp texture with all the alcohol hidden somewhere.

O- This beer is lovely with lots of exploding hop aroma/flavor and a good depth to it aswell. There is no real bitterness and alcohol but just enough pungency to offset the floral character of the hops. I don't know where those 22 oz. went.

Aroma of sweat yet a wine taste. A big bubbly head and lots of lace. Gino’s bottle from 3 Floyds visit. A wild yeast strain, with bravo hops I think. Sweet and hoppy. A big mouthfeel, tangerine and grapefruit flavours. Not super drinkable.bee-aye 6600.

A - bright orange with a huge, white, frothy head that has good retention

S - citrusy, grapefruit, faintly spicy

T - bread, orange, grapefruit, spicy, earthy, faint sweetness

M - medium bodied, warm, smooth

This is intensely hopped Barleywine. This could fit in with almost any of the DIPAs I've had from FFF so far. I really enjoyed the intense hop character and the subtle malt sweetness. If getting FFF around here wasn't hard, I would definitely have this again.

Pred from a bomber int o room temp pint glass.

A- Cloudy, hazy, light golden-orange color that pours to a 1-inch head that hangs in there, fading quite slowly and leaving behind some wide, sticky mega-rings of lace.

S- Orange and lemon citrus hop aromas dominate, a touch of alcohol comes through. A bit of dry malt backround.

T-Hopped up flavor of orange, lemon, with a touch of dry bready malt, keeping it in balance.

M- Tangy and sharp with a smooth finish, very smooth. Very nice body, feel, and balance; with a 10% abv, well done.

O- I like this hopped up version of American Barleywine, and at 10% abv without being 'boozey' is a big plus.

A: Murky and hazy!!! Yellowish with a slight golden tinge. No head, no lace. No bubbles. Looks very much like a wild ale.

S: If there was a score over a 5, I wouold do it! Simco hops? Crazy crazy hops. And hops. Hemp; if you know what I'm sayin.

T: WOW!!! Really tasty!!! Super ctazy hop, with no bitterness at all!!!!

M: Super super balanced. Nice and chewy. Nice coat on the tongue.

O: I wish FFF was distributed in Philly/PA!!!

Bomber poured into a Duvel tuilp.

Risgoop pours a hazy yellow/orange color with an inch of off-white head. The color reminds me a bit of orange Tang. Come to think of it, smells a bit like orange Tang, too! Aroma is of sweeter citrus fruits: orange/tangerine. Tastes a bit like orange chewable baby aspirin. While that might not sound flattering, I do enjoy this. Mouthfeel is not as thick as anticipated. it's definitely on the thin side for a bw. The rice does offer a twist on the style, both in smell & taste. For 10%, the alcohol is well hidden.

Overall, tastes more like a DIPA. I guess that is to be expected from a FFF product.

Pours orange with a 2 finger white head. Good lacing and retention.

Smells like a typical FFF offerings. Citrusy hops with a little bit of pine. Cereal malt aroma, but mostly hop forward.

Hops are still present, but not nearly as strong as the nose. A little citrus up front before the cereal grain flavor takes over. Tastes a bit like those sugar biscuits you get at a Chinese buffet. Not bad, but not a ton of discernable flavor either.

Medium bodied. Candied pine sits on the tongue in the aftertaste. Alcohol is fairly well hidden, but a bit of it gets through which I don't like in my IPA's.

Perfectly acceptable beer, but nothing really stands out about it except the price which is much too high. Many equal or better options for a lower price. Even APW and DN are cheaper than this and better.

A-Cloudy orange, nice carbonation, one finger head that doesn't last long.

S-Lots of citrus notes, some lemon, orange and grass. Hops are present but so is some alcohol heat.

T-Starts with a lot of citrus, like the nose lemons and orange. Mild bitterness in the finish.

M-Medium bodied, nice carbonation with a velvety feel.

O-Was expecting a little beer but still a solid beer. It does pack a punch though.

Poured from 22oz bomber into Globe glass.

A. Pours 2 finger head. Smells hoppy pouring out of the bottle. Color is golden orange. Thick lacing. Good retention. Looks like a IPA.

S. Citrus hps are the predominant smell. Some piney hop aroma also comes out. Malt aroma is bready and biscuity. This really smells like an IPA in almost all aspects. Smells like a lot of 3F's other IPAs.

T. Really doesnt taste like anything. There is some faint hop traces lingering around, but not much. Really the only taste is a mouth coating sweetness. Really interesting in the fact that it might be the first 10% beer that has had the least amount of taste I have ever had. No alcohol trace. Very little bitterness.

M. Medium bodied. Lingering sweetness.

O. Not too impressed at this point. Bought 2 bottles, and really hoping something happens over time to turn the second one in to some sort of barleywine. Label says Rice Beer, which makes a little more sense why this is fairly tasteless. Will review 2nd bottle later.

The beer is bright golden with a small head of broken bubbles. The aroma offers fresh hops and citrus atop a malt base with subtle notes of alcohol. The flavor brings oranges with a mellow candy sweetness. Nice. Medium bodied, this beer coats the palate with resiny, sticky, hops. Resemblance to a DIPA. Overall, another very tasty offering from FFF.

Re-visiting this brew out of the bottle after a hazy experience with it from the tap. It pours a lightly hazy gold topped by a short finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises vague apricot, funky wheat, and Sorachi-style lemon zest. The taste brings in more of the same, along with a sense of fruity plastic and what may or may not actually be the flavor of wild rice. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, this stuff just ain't my cup o' meat. What I assume to be the wold rice influence just comes across plastic-y, ruining most possibilities of enjoyment on my end.

A- Pours a clear, slightly pale golden color, produces a finger of creamy off-white head, leaves nice lacing.

S- Big citrusy, piney and earthy hops, some pine and light medicinal bubblegum aroma.

T- Similar to the nose, lots of juicy citrus and tropical fruit, as well as yeast, sugary esters and alcohol. The booze is actually pretty well hidden.

M- Full-bodied, smooth feel with a dry finish, mild alcohol warmth.

O- An interesting beer and definitely worth trying, although I definitely liked Boogoop considerably more.

S- Floral smell, a bit holly, with certainly a ricey backbone. It's a little acrid, not wholly disgusting, but not exactly pleasant.

T- Taste is again a little floral choppy and the taste of the rice permeates again, it's a tad offputting

M- Clean and crisp, full bodied.

Overall- I don't know, I wasn't thrilled with this.

Appears a slightly cloudy gold with thin white head not much retention to speak of. The smell features notes of caramel, citrus hops, pine, herbs, and some artificial plasticy smelling quality that I'm not digging. The taste starts with some fruity sweetness followed by herbal hops which contribute a large amount of bitterness. Booze is present along with a acrid character that detracts from my enjoyment of this brew. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thing considering the strength. Overall, this is my least favorite of the "Goop" series.

A: Clear amber in color. Forms a moderate sized white colored head. Head slowly reduces to a fairly thick surface coating leaving a good bit of lace on the way down.

S: Aroma is odd, being both inviting and mildly repulsive at the same time. Fruity and sweet with notes of bubble gum, orange and candied kumquats. But then there is some sort of odd ester quality reminiscent of plastic.

T: Mild to moderate sweetness. Lots of citrus peel, orange, light toast, and some peach. Finish has a persistent pithy bitterness that borderlines a slight chemical quality.

M: On the heavier side of medium with lower carbonation level. Moderate bitterness and a bit of alcoholic heat.

O: A good beer, but not one that is worth the price of admission.

Had on tap at Stout Barrel House. Served in a snifter.

A: Pours a solid apricot color with a thin white head head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin film that leaves some sticky sheets of lace.

S: Candied oranges and tangerines with a sweetened cereal grain malt body balancing it out. Nice lemon and lime zest to give a bit of kick. This smells like a big DIPA as opposed to a barley wine.

T: The taste is much more malty and yeasty than the nose. Some sweet candied sugar with a grainy malt sweetness make up the body with some yeasty chalkiness that provide some fruity esters. More lemon zest like the nose with some bitter orange peel as well.

M: Medium bodied with a malty body and a medium low carbonation level. Slightly drying as well.

O: This was solid overall, but it didn't quite know what it was. The nose was extremely fruity and the taste was much more malt forward.

A - A finger-plus of white foam settles to a partial cap, thick collar, and splotchy lace. Mildly hazy dark peach body.

S - Reminds me of a wheatwine quite a bit. Fruity esters, a bit of burnt sugar, and cotton candy, and a mix of citrus, spicy, and earthy hops. A little rough and a tad cloying as it warms up.

T - I like the taste a fair bit more, as it loses some of the more earthy and saccharine qualities. A nice mix of lightly burnt sugars, fruity yeast, orange citrus, tropical fruits, and surprisingly little alcohol. I don't get a ton of rice, more of a crystal malt vibe than anything.

M - Dry, and perhaps even lightly toasty texture, pleasant moderate carbonation, medium-full body, and no much alcohol warmth.

D - I haven't been a huge fan of the Goop series but this is probably my favorite one. Fairly easy to drink but not something I'd actively seek out with so many superior 3 Floyds offerings available.

A: Pours a brassy orange with a nice slightly off-white head. Nice lacing.

S: Ah yes, hops. Sweet and slightly abrasive aromas of apricot, pine, lactose, and pineapple.

T: Bitter assault of tropical hops. Mango, marshmallow, pineapple, lactose, pleasant alcohol sweetness, some chewy yet light pale malt behind.

M: Somewhat thick and chewy with crisp carbonation.

O: I haven't had a beer this satisfyingly bitter in a while. Not sure why they call the beers in this series barleywines instead of DIPAs, but either way this is delicious.
