Stepping outside of their usual influences of comic books and and head banging music, instead the class and charm of Belgium edges infiltrates the brewery with this passionate and stern strong Belgian golden ale.

The beer pours with a creamy and somewhat weighted appearance with yeasty cloudiness, and a whipped cream-like white foam cap. Fantastic retention and lacing leaves the eye impressed. However, the beer doesn't have the spritzy carbonation or the airy head character of traditional Belgian ales of similar strength and and complexity.

Vivid aromas of malt and fruit give a light bread and honey scent that's decorated with lighter fruit notes of apples, apricots, dried oranges, and almost-banana. Dusted with yeasty spices of clove, coriander, and white pepper- the beer takes on a vague aroma of German wheat beers as well as Belgian.

Fruit acidity is tempered with malt richness and moderate sweetness. Oranges, apples, papayas and plantains carry a zesty lemon-like tartness that weaves into the peppery bite from yeast. These spice qualities balance the malt and richer fruit taste well while offering some of the complexities that are often lacking in America-brewed versions. The somewhat rich taste gives this example a verbose character that's not entirely malt.

Acidity, alcohol, mild hops, and spicy phenols help to deliver a dry palate with acidic bite, and pleasant tartness. But the creamy character allows for the taste and texture of cream sickle. Where there's a pleasant quality to be desired, it gets away from the lighter and more effervescent Belgian varieties.

Although I may still prefer authentic examples such as Delirium Tremens and Piraat, this American-ized version works much better than most of the style that I've seen brewed domestically.
