On tap at Three Floyds with Sean and Mike... A milky dark honey, gold, off white head, good lace... Belgian yeast with lots of grassy hops, good combo... The taste is off from the nose, buttery, soapy, with a chemical grass hop finish, crisp and drinkable, just not in love

Proper pint
On-draft in Munster at Three Floyd's Taproom!

From notes.

A: Bright yellow (almost golden, but not quite). Half (semi-fluffy white) fingernail head.

S: Mix of hops with yeasty overtones. Orange peel, mix of coriander/white pepper, and biscuit malt.

T: Loads of Belgian yeast up-front followed by hops (not too bold, but definitely there). Faint citrus fruit and dry biscuit flavors towards middle and hint of spice and more yeast towards the end. I'm looking for more balance here, but cannot seem to find any.

M: Light bodied with even carbonation.

O: An interesting beer, but not my favorite offering from Three Floyds. Light and crisp; thus, easy to drink. Worth a try, but I wouldn't order it again with the likes of Zombie Dust, Dreadnaught, and Alpha King on-tap.

On tap at the brewpub, just a low ABV option before bringing some growlers to my folks' house in the NW suburbs. Clear golden color, maybe a little chill haze, nice compact foam. Belgian yeast is fairly evident in the nose, along with some good citrusy hop character.

Very flavorful for such low alcohol content, spicy hops and very little malt in the flavor. More a Belgian IPA than a Belgian Pale. Extremely poundable, this was a great choice when pushed for time and concerned about ABV. Excellent as are most choices here.

Attractive deep saturated orange, thin layer of bone white foam that leaves some spotty bits of lace. Surface foam has a fine texture. Retention isn't as blatantly Belgian as it could be, no billowing long lasting foam or anything, but it looks nice enough.

Lightly sweet tangerine aroma, soft banana, clove, and grassy herbs. Very much focused on the Belgian yeast, with some lightly citrus from the hops in the background.

Big citrusy flavor, with a hefty earthy hop presence. Dry weedy herbs, clove phenols. Dry grassy bitterness lingers seemingly forever in the aftertaste. Creamy feel, very soft and medium bodied. Easy drinking, deceptively hidden abv. Nicely bitter and dry, a pleasantly hoppy Belgian Pale. The second runnings of Shark Pants... sounds like a good name for a novel.

On tap at FFF.
I wanted to review this the last couple times I was up here, but it was too 'yeasty' due to the keg being recently changed.
This barrel has been on long enough to settle out.

Served in a tulip.

Orangey yellow body is thick and hazy looking. Three finger white fluffy head with nice lacing and retention.
Smells hoppy (surprise!). Citrusy hops mainly with a bit of malt hiding in there. The yeast adds a unique funky twist that works pretty well.
The taste is very dry with a healthy dose of bitterness and grapefruit hops. Really really dry finish. Lingering bitterness borders most DIPAs.

The body has a little chalky hard-water feel to it-- like mineraly. Well carbonated though.

Overall, this is a tasty beer-- I'm impressed tis was made with the 2nd runnings from Shark Pants, and it feels like a slightly smaller version of that beer. Is the best BPA I've had? no, but it is pretty good.

Imbibed at the FFF Brewpub on 06/23/2011.

Appearance -- Pours a golden orange hue with a slim sudsy white head. It catches light incredibly well. Nice hue.

Smell -- The hops are big and citrusy, but also slightly dank and musky. Bubblegum and a modicum of clove, as well as earthy yeast meet honey sweetness to round out the nose. Really nice.

Taste -- Drier than the nose would suggest: golden toast with a dab of honey, clove and earthy yeast notes, mild spicy esters, and mild spiciness. Big citrusy hops and firm pithy bitterness. Lots of estery fermentation character. Finish is citrus pith, yeast, and crystal malt.

Mouthfeel -- Medium-light in body with crisp carbonation.

Overall -- I'm hard-pressed to remember a Belgian Pale that I like more than this one. An incredible use of the Struise yeast, definitely better than Shark Pants. I wish I had a growler of this...

Additional Notes: I had this at a bar other than FFF first and HATED it. If you tried this at the Tribes FFF Tap Takeover, something was wrong with that keg, I think it got a disproportionate amount of yeast as my pour was opaque. Give this beer another chance.

Served in a tumbler at The Tribes.

Much like the Germans in 1940, I seek to conquer Eben-Emael. It pours a hazy crystalline orange juice topped by a finger of dirty white foam. The nose comprises light orange peel, Belgian yeast, light clove, grass, and very light lemon zest. The taste holds notes of orange peel, flowers, lemon rind, grass, light banana, and very light black pepper. The body is a hefty light, with a light moderate carbonation and an almost (but not) grainy feel. Overall, a very nice BPA, though I think the Belgian characters don't really come through as much as they could on the tongue. Good times, though.

On tap at the brewpub

A - Cloudy yellow with a thick head that doesn't want to recede.

S - Yeasty with some oranges

T - Full flavored yeast and citrus with a hop finish

M - Creamy

O - This beer takes you on a nice little journey from yeast to juicy tropical fruits to hops. Very nice.
