Notes:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

A collaboration/dedication ale brewed with our friend Urbain from the Belgian brewery De Struise, this intense Belgian-style double IPA was fermented with Urbain's special yeast and then an amazing amount of hops were added. This beer was brewed in loving memory of a former employee, Rich Sheppard, who passed away on 4.12.11. Art by Tommy Borst. Try this beer and enjoy the Rich life.

A: Cloudy deep golden honey color. Forms a large white head that has some pretty good retention. Leaves some moderate lacing on the way down.

S: Aromatic and hoppy with lots of citrus and tropical fruit. Orange, mango, pineapple and a bit of spice. This one has a regular old fruit salad going on with it.

T: The taste is very nice. Much better than I expected. Again there are lots of citrus hops along with a bunch of fruit. Orange dominates, but it is accented by notes of tropical fruit and mango. There is a touch of Belgian yeasty spice, but it is more of a compliment to the fruit and hops than a main character. Finishes with a touch of pine and a bit of alcohol.

M: Medium bodied. Carbonation is approaching the heavy side of things, but this one is not at all over-carbonated. Mild bitterness. A bit of alcoholic heat on the finish.

O: Picked this one up on a whim at DLD and now I'm wishing I picked up a few more. This is an excellent beer and really was much better than I was expecting it to be. Paired it with some charcuterie from Smoking Goose and it couldn't have complemented it any better. Fruity, juicy, and hoppy, make this one a very easy drinker.

had a draft of this one at the Map Room when it was called Shark Pants, with my main man on Pitchfork weekend...

a: served in a nice tulip glass, shark pants is a hazy orange in color, capped with a creamy white layer of carbonation, dense and lasting

s: a combination of glorious tropical hops and a lovely spice profile from the belgian yeast that brings sweet esters and hints of clove and bubblegum, cleanly sweet pale malt structure, lots of pungent fruit - pineapple, fresh citrus, tangerine, mango...really taken in by this one

m: carbonation moderate-high, lively and smooth, body on the lighter side of medium

t: awesome stuff here - loads of vivid tropical fruits via a generous hop bill...pineapple, tangerine and orange zest, mango, and a lovely delicate spice profile from the yeast, hop and yeast mix in and out with waves of flavor atop a pale malt backbone, finishing nicely bitter and clean

o: no surprises here - exceptional
