Notes:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.
A robust Aesir porter brewed with our friends the band Amon Amarth, deep roasted malts and honey give this
beer its dark color and rich mouth feel. When Heimdal sounds the Gailar Horn for the last battle, this is the beer the gods will drink.

22 oz. bottle poured into a HotD tulip glass
Vintage: The one and only!
From notes. Enjoyed a couple summers back at a backyard BBQ with the usual suspects in the Mile High Knight's tasting crew. Brought by me to share with the group.
A: Deep, very dark brown. Single (mocha) fingernail head on gentle pour.
S: Robust and roasty. Loads of coffee and roastiness, hint of charred dark malt, and chocolate with a bold scent of citrus hops. Very different, but I like how it stand apart from others of the same style.
T: Follows smell and the roastiness is quite enjoyable. Hint of smokiness too which adds a nice twist. Honey sweetness is good too! I preferred this as it warmed though (cold, was a bit too muted).
M: Medium bodied with even carbonation. Real nice!
O: A hoppy (par-for-the-course with FFF) porter that is really enjoyable. Let it warm a bit though to enjoy the multi-layered complexity of this beer.

I've really liked this beer, bought a bunch of bottles in 2011. I never reviewed it fresh, only now getting to it while opening a bottle that's about 1 year old.
It pours dark brown and opaque with a really nice foam, thick mocha-colored froth that laces in huge chunks. Gorgeous. When fresh this had a distinct hoppy note in the aroma, and while that attribute diminished with age it's still somewhat noticeable. From smell alone I prefer this with age. There's a smoked malt presence in the aroma that really comes through with the faded hops. And cocoa, this smells near perfect to me.
The hops have lived on in the flavor, giving strong citrusy counterpoint to the peat-like smokiness that is my main draw. Slightly sweet, lots of roasted character but nowhere near acrid. Again, age has been kind to this beer, I'm really happy I've kept some this long.
Overall a nearly perfect American Porter, executed just as you'd expect FFF to do it, hopped up and reminiscent of Black Sun or Alpha Klaus, albeit with its own smoked malt character. Outstanding, highly recommended.

A - Pours a dark brown-black color with a finger of rothy khaki-chocolate colored head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of roasted chocolate malts, dark fruit, smoke, black licorice, honey, coffee, and a touch of lactose sweetness.
T - Starts off with a mix of roasted chocolate malts with some dark fruit, some smoke, and some black licorice. Through the middle, some coffee comes through with some honey, and a bit of lactose sweetness. The finish is a mix of roasted milk chocolate malts, dark fruit, coffee, smoke, and a bit of honey.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with sweet, smokey, and warming finish.
D - Very drinkable. Nice imperial porter with good complexity, body, and overall balance.

A- Pours a very very dark leathery brown with a very creamy mocha head that has great retention.
S- Cocoa, smoke, honey, and flowers. Interesting and inviting.
T- Cocoa, smoke, citrus, honey, and flowers. The sweetness works really well with the smokiness. Tasty.
M- The carbonation is smooth and abundant. The alcohol is well hidden.
O- A tasty take on the style. Smooth and sweet without being too rich. Well made.
