This beer is the best beer I've EEEVVVERRRR HADDDD, bottled, outa the tap, whatever, delicious. Dark dark day when I could no longer go into my local Three Floyds and take home (yet another) growler of the dark goodness.
IF ANYONE somehow manages to still have a bottle of the stuff, I am without a doubt willing to throw down a pretty penny for it!

Dark brown with a slightly reddish hue. Ring of small dense bubbles for head.
Some roasty elements to the aroma. Flavor is similar with some strong flavors of malt, dark fruits and maybe even a twinge of smoke.
Lively carbonation, which was pleasant and unexpected. Not a style I typically go for, but this one was quite tasty and I'm definitely looking forward to trying it out of the bottle so I can compare.

Had on tap at the brewpub on thanksgiving weekend.
A-pours a transparent dark coloa brown with a dark tan colred head.
S-the nose is faint but very roasty in what I do get. Roasted malts and some notes of roasted coffee.
T-the taste follows the nose but bigger. Lots of roasted malts, lots of coffee, some notes of dark chocolate with just a hint of malt sweetness in the form of dark fruits.
M-creamy medium body that is soft on the palate and has a well carbonated finish giving it a nice clean feel on the back of the throat.
D-different than what I was expecting. big time roasted malts with very little sweetness. Still, this is pretty tasty, very simple and straigh tforward, with great drinkability especially for the alcohol content.

Had this at the 3f brewpub in Munster IN.
Pours a dark brown, almost black color with a tan white head that leaves good lacing.
Smell is not very strong and mainly of chocolate and roasted malts.
Taste starts with roasted malts, charamel and finishes with some nuttiness and dark chocolate. Very pleasant. Aftertaste is mild and sorta sweet. Actually it reminded me of Swiss chocolate.
Body is medium and carbonation is high. Drinkability is medium to high. Alcohol is very hidden.
Overall a good dopplebock but not as sweet and charamel like the classics beers of the style. This has more of a chocolate and roast feel to it.

A: deep dark brown, nice tan head and lacing.
S: chocolatey malts mostly, dark fruitcake.
T: strangely differed from the nose-tangy stone fruits (cherries) moreso than the chocolatey dark bready malts. medium sweetness. hops very subtle. more fruity than bready richness as i'd expect for the style.
M: well-carbonated, full-bodied. the tanginess or hint of sourness takes away just a bit here.
D: a sipper.

Imbibed at the FFF Brewpub 10/29/2010.
Appearance -- Pours a deep brown with scant ruby highlights and one finger of frothy khaki head.
Smell -- Chocolate and patent malt, morning's first cup of coffee, and plums. Not especially aromatic, but what is present is quite good. Wish I could've given this higher marks in this category.
Taste -- Right off the bat is a tidal wave of chocolatey roast malt along with coffee and cream, and gentle leather. Prune and red grape wrangle the chocolate malt in to give the beer style authenticity. Finish is black coffee with baker's chocolate and leather.
Mouthfeel -- Medium in body with moderate soft carbonation. Very nice, indeed.
Drinkability -- This beer is almost too good. I know what you're thinking: "Nate, this is some straight-up homer talk." Maybe so, but this has been the best tap-only FFF beer I've had since I caught the beer bug. Rich, roasty, and incredibly drinkable. Granted, this is a pretty left-of-center Doppelbock, but in the best way possible. I expected this beer to be passable within the style, but this kicked my expectations into the gutter.
My bartender told me that he wasn't sure that this was going to make it into bottles. For heaven's sake, please let him be wrong!

Shared with d0b and naproxen at Three Floyds. Served in a bowtie.
A - Poured with a finger of light tan foam that settles to a thick ring and leaves behind spotty lace. Dark brown body that's quite close to black, but reveals some transparency at the bottom of the glass.
S - Dark fruits, chocolate, heavy rye bread, and light alcohol notes.
T - Taste has nice roasted malt, a touch of espresso, dark breads, and chocolate. Finishes with lingering bitterness. No obvious alcohol in the flavor.
M - Carbonation is a touch zesty for this style of beer, and the bottom seemed a little undersized for a 9% brew.
D - I could have easily had a glass on my own if I weren't driving. It's an unusual doppelbock, but the difference is positive one in that it attenuates the cloying sweetness that plagues certain beers of this style.

From FFF's beer list:
A ridiculously massive dipole bock brewed for Pelican's 10 th anniversary concert and box set release. There are no words to describe this beer.
23 IBUs, 9% ABV, $5 bowtie glass
Pours a dark red... So dark it looks black. Tan head is thick and velvety... Dwindling slowly into a wisp of cloud-like bubbles with a collar of foam that retains very well. The garnet and amber color is gorgeous as I hold this up the light and behold its beauty.
A roasty and chocolatey note greets me first. A very slight spicy hop note comes across as well, but the sweetness is very noticeable. The sweet notes come through in the taste-- a big roasty note hides a slight earthy quality. The cocoa comes across and contributes a bit of bitterness that meshes well with sweet malt notes. A thick, creamy iced-coffee feel and flavor on the finish.
The body is very full... Luxurious and velvety feel with a perfect amount of carbonation. Just great.
The overall drinkability of this beer is phenomonal. I can't imagine drinking any other dopplebock now that I've had this. FFF must love Pelican and their music, because this beer commemorates them with such style.

A thick imperial like dopplebock. Big chocolate and it's on the sweeter side, with understated bitterness. A big beer, very dangerously drinkable. Deep brown bodied with lots of retained head. Malty aroma. Bottle in trade from (fill in blank when I remember).

Right off the bat this beer is not like a regular Dopplebock. It pours a super oily, dark brown with a thin tan head. It drinks with a load of body smacking you in the face and intense, dark flavors.
The beer has killer notes of tobacco, coffee, and a very rich chocolatey aftertaste. Very tasty beer, drinks more like a stout.

Appears a dark turbid brown with a small tan head that fades into a mild cap. Spotty bits of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of toffee, caramel, cocoa, nougat, and herbal blasts.
Taste is if the aromas with perhaps a touch of cut wood and smokiness.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slick, semi dry, with aberry and cocoa lingering.

Thanks to Doug for sharing this FFF beer I never thought i'd see.
Poured into a tulip glass, it had a reddish brown color with a tan head of creamy foam. A thin collar of lacing around the edges and a broken skim results after a few minutes.
Nutty maple aromas, toasted malt, generally mellow.
Flavors are similar with a mild but persistent bitterness. Malt forward, somewhat toasty and even slightly rich in feel. For a year old doppelbock, this is holding up nicely. Lightly chocolatey and nutty with mild coffee undertones. Pleasant overall and worthwhile for sharing.

Poured forebodingly dark with a half-inch of tan head that leaves rings of lace. Hell of a dark dopplebock. Smell was primarily rich chocolate. Taste followed the smell with chocolate and roasted malt, slight lactic sweetness and a hint of raisin and dark fruit. Mouthfeel was medium-heavy, nice and creamy, with nice carbonation that wakes up the tongue. Overall, very good. One of the best dopplebocks I've ever had. Quite honesty it tastes similar to their Moloko, but at 9% packs a well-hidden punch.

Thanks to Exiled for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of heavy chocolate and roasted malt. I also get a little cream character in the aroma. While it smells delicious, it doesn't really smell like a doppelbock.
The flavor is similar. The dominant flavors are chocolate and roasted malt, but there is also a little dark fruit hidden in the background. The alcohol is present in the flavor and the aroma, but the beer is still easy to drink and quite enjoyable.
Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Shared this one with beeruser and funkydelic at one of our weekly tastings! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller flute. Poured a massively dark brown with a half finger light tan head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, dark chocolate, caramel, cotton candy, and brown sugar. The flavor was of sweet malt, dark chocolate, caramel, and slight coffee. It had a heavy feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a great tasting brew. The aroma was very intersting as I have never smelled cotton candy in a beer before and for that to be out of a Doppelbock was just shocking to put it lightly. The flavor was pretty darn tasty with the nice subtle hint of coffee going on here. Again, another first in a Doppelbock... Not sure if FFF messed this one up or meant to do this, but whatever the reason, it worked quite well. A definite must try... Just wish I had more.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. It pours a very dark ruby/brown color. A 1/4 inch tan head forms and reduces leaving a partly cloudy lacing.
The aroma is a bit weak to be rated higher. A slight caramel sweetness combined with a roast malt, chocolate note. Some minimal hopping.
The taste is solid with a good blend of chocolate, roasted coffee, and caramel sweetness combined with an interesting smokiness. Again, minimal hoppy presence.
The mouthfeel has medium-full bodied with an elevated level of carbonation that leaves a twinge to the back of the palate. Reasonably smooth and somewhat creamy.
Overall, this is a reasonably easy beer to drink. It has solid components and leaves me interested in coming back for more, however, a slow pace related to ABV and palate keeps it from being more drinkable.

The Creeper
Served in DFH signature glass
A: Pours black with a dense, brown head that rises a couple inches above head. Poor retention and lacing. When held up to the light, deep brown highlights are revealed.
S: Molasses, dark chocolate, bready malts and some dark, dried fruits. A little licorice and a hint of smoke.
T: Sweet malts up front, followed by dark, dried fruits and molasses. Mild bitterness. A little licorice in the finish The molasses is pretty strong and keeps prompting me to think of carmelized barbecue sauce and smoke. That's probably a good cue for food pairings. Nonetheless, this beer is meaty.
M: Medium-heavy body with medium carbonation. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel.
O: The Creeper drinks like Moloko's demented half-brother. Its 9 abv is masterfully hidden. I find The Creeper to be an unusual and enjoyable doppelbock.

22oz bottle into three floyds pint glass
Pores black with 3 fingers of head the quickly falls to 1 finger, doesn't leave anything on the glass. Smells of chocolate, roasted malt with a slight moca character. Tastes of chocolate, burnt sugar, big roasted flavors and coffee. Leaves a roasty coffee aftertaste otherwise finishes very clean. Love the beer I think it is a little big for a doppelbock but still great. Should've bought more then one.

My very first Doppelbock. First off, very very "creepy" logo with a pentagram. Pours a deep solid black with minimal head. All I smell is dark roasted malts. The beer is a medium bodied, creamy thick feel with slight carbonation. The taste is of medium roasted dark malt and peat, with some espresso and dark chocolate "trying" to poke through. I was hoping for more out of this beer, but there is no way there is 9% alcohol in this beer, you don't even taste it.

Pours black with a medium/deep brown head. Head dissipates leaving only a ring around the glass edge. No lacing.
Smell is bitter roasted malts mixed with a light sweetness. Grainy, bready and cereal malts.
Taste is sweet roasted malts, molasses and bitter chocolate. Finish is more bitter and roasty with light bitter chocolate and brown sugar. Slight lingering bitterness.
Medium bodied and creamy with moderate carbonation. Clean finish. Alcohol is well hidden.
Overall a solid beer with a good flavor for a lighter body. Enjoyable.

22oz bottle poured into large tulip glass - thanks to mikesgroove for this awesome extra
Pours a full deep dark color with some brighter ruby edges, frothy tanned head fades, streaky lacing left on the glass.
Nice scents of dark fruits with sweet edges, dates and raisins, licorice, smoke, with a hint of alcohol warmth.
Slightly sweet and bitter up front with hoppiness. Raisins and dates with some brown sugar, slightly caramelized. Roasted malts provide thick burly backbone. More fruited sweetness with bits of chocolate and hop bitterness followed by fading alcohol warmth in the finish.
Thicker syrupy body, slightly higher carb, fairly smooth drinking. Really nice flavor, good candied fruit sweetness and mild presence of alcohol. I'm not sure this exactly tasted like a doppelbock but definitely delicious.

Poured into a pilsner glass (though after the fact a snifter might have been a better option).
3.5 A: Pours black. About three fingers of creamy light brown head with below average retention and just a small ring of lacing.
3.5 S: Good amount of roastiness in this with semi-sweet chocolate making a big appearance as well. Some faint caramel, but overall fairly dry. Malts can be described as grainy, if anything. Grassy hoppiness Not bad, but needs some strength.
4.0 T: Unlike the nose, the taste is big and bold. Roasted malts, milk chocolate, medium roast coffee each exhibit plenty of force. Secondarily, there is a touch of smoke, some lactose-like sourishness, caramel, and dark fruits. Again, grassy hops. Pretty good, borderline 4.5.
4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Creamy, but could be more so and super smooth.
4.0 D: This is a pretty good beer and is basically an imperial stout brewed with lager yeast. Good taste, no off-flavors, and highly drinkable.
