A - orangish amber with a thin, white head

S - orange peel, faint lager-y aroma

T - citrus, faint malt, lager-y

M - smooth, well carbonated, medium bodied

This is a nice lager from Three Floyds. The citrusy character and hints of orange peel really made this a treat. Lagers tend to be oversimplified, but the citrus here set this one apart from other dortmunders that I have had. This is really an enjoyable, lighter offering that is definitely worth a try.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass.
Chill-hazed copper in color, with a sturdy two-inch head of off-white foam.
Aroma-Faint pale malt
Taste-Pale/toasted malt, nice floral hop note, subtle citrus rind. Good flavor and character for a lager, drinks and tastes like a pale ale, with a nice dose of noble hops. A crowd-pleasing, backyard brew.

Transparent golden reddish in color with a decent lingering head. Really subdued nose. A little sweet smelling but nothing about the glover is betrayed. Light crisp mouthfeel highly carbonated. There is a Clapton of flavor In this beer. Has that classic smooth pilsner taste but finishes with an assertive hop presence. Honestly it tastes like a slightly better noble pils by Sam Adams. Overall refreshing, tasty drinkable session beer perfect for a warm weather tailgate.

A - Pours a clear copper color with a two and half finger off white colored head minor retention.

S - Caramel malts molasses and hops.

T - I'm getting pretty much the same as what the smell was, not really much to it, you get a bit of the caramel malts but its mostly hops with a dry finish.

M - Light bodied, refreshing with moderate carbonation.

O - Pretty average coming from Three Floyds, I was kinda disappointed but its still a good beer.

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into my pokal glass, this beer pours a cloudy, hazy medium to dark golden color with a bit of a copper hue and lots of little bubbles rising up to the beer's surface. Has a nice white head that is about 2/3 inch thick when first poured that settles to a solid 1/4 inch. Pretty decent lacing too. Aromas of caramel malt, a bit of citrus zest and spice and not much else. Tastewise there are sweet caramel malt notes along with some citrus hop bitterness, but the sweetness certainly seems stronger than the hop notes, and there is a bit of some type of peppery spice flavor present as well. A faint but noticeable hint of cinnamon or clove perhaps? Seems strange for this style of beer, the flavor profile isn't quite what I am used to or was expecting from this style of beer. Don't know if that's intentional on the part of 3 Floyds here or not. I like the flavor profile as it is quite tasty, just not sure if it is correct for this style of beer. Has a crisp, smooth, frothy, medium to full bodied mouthfeel with moderate to heavy carbonation. Easy to drink in the way good beer should be. An interesting beer here to be sure.

A - light copper, pencil thin white head that dissipates quickly

S - Barley, biscuity, grain, touch of sweetness

T - initially: much like the nose. finish: moderate bitter (4/10) noble hop, acid tingles tongue

M - medium body, little bit of froth, viscosity is high

O - flavor isn't huge, did like the touch of sweetness, nose was mellow - i have to admit I'm still working on my lager game.

Can Three Floyds make a decent Lager?

Pours out a nice, lighter amber color with 3 fingers of a fluffy white head.

The aroma is mainly some bready and caramel malt notes with some nice, subtle floral hop notes as well.

The first notes are very crisp and refreshing; there are some floral hop notes and a little bit of spicy notes from the Noble hops. A decent amount of bready and caramel malt notes that provide most of the flavor for the beer.

The body is medium and the mouthfeel is very crisp and clean.

This would make for a great summer beer, but it's not the most complex or best beer in the world. There is some bitterness, but it's very clean and refreshing beer to drink. A very good representation for this style.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a pilsener glass, the beer pours a hazy orange/amber color with about a half inch off-white head that didn't stay around for too long. Not much lacing, either. Aroma is mostly bready and caramel malt, and also light some floral hops and nuts. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there wasn't as much hoppiness as I expected for a Three Floyds brew. With that being said, it's still tasty. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick and easy enough to drink. Not sure if I'd pay $10.99 a 6-pack for this again, but it's a good brew and I'm glad I got to try it.

Pours a nice amber coloring despite the expectation. Very carbonated, very bubbly, Im sure this adds to the crisp, refreshing feel.

The scent is of caramel malts with sweet malt. Nice but lending to metallic, the aroma is malty and toasty.

Very crisp, very refreshing, the taste is light and easy. Some caramel, malt, and cereal grains its easy but simply too light.

Pours a brilliant dark copper brown with a foamy one inch cream head that dissipates slowly, leaving spotty lacing.

Amber malt, grain, and floral hops form the initial aroma. There's a bit of toasted bread character, along with a hint of lemon and rose petals.

The fruity, slightly citrusy character begins the flavor profile, which turns extremely bready, nutty, and toasted mid palate. When mixed with floral hops, the citrus character becomes cherry-like. There's a hint of grapefruit that carries throughout, into the slightly dry finish.

Body is moderate to a touch full, with moderate carbonation and a grain astringency bite.

Good malt character, albeit somewhat overly toasted. Darker than expected. The fruity character was unexpected and offputting. I had this on tap a while back and remember it being much lighter in color...

355ml brown glass bottle with standard branded pressure cap served into a generic glass in me hotel room in Chicago. Reviewed live. Expectations are high given the brewery.

Served straight from an ice bath. Side poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a half finger beige colour head of thin consistency, fair thickness, no cream, and okay retention, Body colour is a dull nontranslucent copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Light pale and caramel malts. Light floral hops. Simple and underwhelming.

T: Clean caramel malts, pale malts, and floral hops. Not a whole lot of depth of flavour here. Decent balance. I do like it in a general sense. No yeast character or alcohol comes through. Decently executed.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Decent thickness. Fair carbonation. Suits the flavour profile fairly well. Decent presence on the palate.

Dr: Drinkable and enjoyable, if underwhelming. Hides its ABV well. I wouldn't get it again, but it's a nice little lager. Well done and easy to drink. I do like it. Tasty for a lager. Doesn't quite live up to Three Floyds' rep, though.

Appearance: Excellent foam. Grapefruit copper in color. Not a whole lot of carbonation. Very thick for a lager.

Smell: Sweet/sour lemon.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Lots of lemon with a hint of brown sugar in the finish. Quite flat compared to rest of beer, but there's a slight sizzle that I like.

Overall Drinkability: An interesting lager that has a few ale qualities.

A- Pours a pale gold with about a finger of white head that quickly dissipates. Left some beautiful lacing on the glass.

S- Smell has a mild citrus aroma.

T- Has a little bit of a citrus hop bite and is one of the tastier Pilsners I have ever tried.

M- Mouthfeel is light and and has medium-heavy carbonation. This would make a great session lager for the summer months.

O- This is not my favorite style of beer but I could definitely drink this all day long. I have never had a beer by Three Floyd's that I didn't like and this one was no exception.

Poured from a growler into a New Belgium snifter. Pale gold color. Slightly hazy. Nice effervescence. One finger of creamy head. Nice retention. The nose has nice, sweet, clean, cracker-like malt notes. A bit of hoppy spiciness too.

Light to medium body. Good firm feel. Nice clean malt flavors up front. At mid-palate, flowery hops come in and provide a nice peppery finish. Very smooth, drinkable, and refreshing.

Pilsners are not my favorite style and I do not seek them out, but I found this one to be quite enjoyable. Neither the malt nor the hops are ever lost in this beer. Both are evident and noticeable. A well-crafted pilsner that should appeal to fans of the style.

Sampled in my FFF tulip pint from a 12oz bottle purchased at the brewery.

A - Yellow to light golden with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Good clarity and a consistent flow of tiny bubbles.

S - Spicy hops with a hint of lemon.

T - A spicy hop crispness with a good malt foundation and a hint of sweetness. There's also a lingering earthy bitterness that sticks out but doesn't quite work with everything else.

M - Smooth and easy on the mouth with a moderately low, reserved carbonation.

O - Flavorful and easy to drink but the harmony was a bit off for me.

A: Golden straw color with a 1/2 finger head and lots of small bubbles
S: Fresh grains/malt, a touch sweet and just a hint of hops
T: Again, extremely fresh malt/grain with a touch of biscuit/yeast. Also a touch sweet. The finish is long with a slight hop bite finally coming through.
M: This is impressive. Light-bodied but crisp with a nice carbonation.
O: IMO almost everything 3F brews they do extremely well, and for a lager/Dortmunder this is one of the better examples out there. Light/refreshing yet fairly complex.

Crystal clear deep straw color with a bone white contrasting head. I can't get over how clear this beer is. It's amazing.

The smell is loads of fresh cut grass and bready malt.

This lager is hopped to the gills and clearly noble hops. Moderately bitter, grassy, and a light perfume. Very bready.

Mouthfeel is crisp, light, and clean.

As far as lagers go, it's a fine beer. A nice hoppy take on the style that would be a great summer beer.

Bottle enjoyed on 8/13/12, served in a FFF pint glass.

Pour: Nearly clear yellow orange with two fingers white head. No lacing to speak of, and head diminishes to a film.

Smell: Floral and grassy hops and a really nice breadyness.

Taste: Bready sweetness from the bat, then floral/grassy bitterness. Lightest citrus. Maybe a hint of caramel.

Mouthfeel: Really refreshing, and goes down quick. Not very bitter, but has a bite in traditional FFF style.

Overall: An amazing session beer, and my top vote behind Gumballhead to be put into cans, if that ever were to happen.

22oz into a pint

A - Pours a very clear golden color - bright and bubbly. Looks very clean.

S - Lightly malty, sweet, hints of toffee and roast. A little bit of esters in the backdrop.

T - Starts off clean, sweet, light amounts of graininess. Mid-stream is even smoother. This beer doesn't have much emphasis in any area. Finishes with a little bit of grainy character, and just a hint of hops.

M - Smooth and sticky, not much carbonation to back it up. Very clean finish.

O/D - An overall very clean beer, just nothing really to distinguish itself outside of its very well done Should of pulled this one out of the box earlier.

Thanks to my girlfriend for bringing this to me in Boston!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsener- pours a clear golden straw color with one finger of creamy white head, decent retention, no lacing.

Smells like sweet barley mostly and some noble hop notes.

Tastes great- lots of pale malted barley flavor up front, accentuated by noble hop bitterness. A little banana. Goes back and forth between malt and hops to finish semi-dry. Long nice finish.

Mouthfeel is pretty good- medium light bodied with moderate to full carbonation. It's a little chewy but in general is refreshing. I love everything I've had by three floyds and jinx proof is no exception.

A: Pours a darker shade of straw. There is a just off-white head that fades fairly quickly, but good retention for a lager.

S: The smell is mild and crisp. Some grainy malt and light lemon zest.

T: Mild really describes the flavor. Pale malt provides a light pils taste. Mild hop bitterness hits the tongue. A background of cereal.

M: Light and watery. Almost approaching a Budweiser consistency, but flavored much better and with a slight bit more alcohol presence.

O: A lager, through and through, but with a bit more flavor than your standard fare.

Big thanks goes out to beeruser for sharing this one! Served from bottle into a Boulevard Smokestack tulip. Poured golden yellow with a white half finger head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, floral, floral hop, and fruit. The flavor was of sweet malt, floral, fruit, and earth. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. This one carried a big floral character to it throughout both the aroma and flavor. The touch of fruit on this one was a very nice addition to the floral characteristic. Worth trying if you get the opportunity for sure.

12oz bottle into Wellington glass. Pours a slightly hazy hay color with a tinge of orange/red... reminds me of an apricot. Two finger off-white head with

Nose: Honey, corn, cantaloupe, vegetal hoppiness.

Taste: Hop bitterness right up front. Slightly vegetal, a nip of aspirin bitterness in there. Light pils malt/adjunct tasting body with nothing that stands out too much. Bitterness continues through the finish, which is pretty dry.

Overall this is a decent beer, but I don't love it. There's nothing spectacular about it and the flavors aren't that well-rounded. The cleanness and crispness that could be present in the body are muddled by vegetal tasting hops that provide more than bitterness. Would drink again, but won't seek out.

Average smell for a dortmunder/pilsener/lager...european yeast, decent smell. The look in this is above average, nice golden color with nice head and decent lacing. The first couple I have had of this were a little off...by the time I got through the six pack in day three I has to review..it had changed, for the better! The taste on this was much better than the smell for sure...one hg ny favorite dorts for sure..at first I regretted my purchase, but after a few I was hooked. I live nearly three hours from the brewery but would drive back up for this for sure..nice job changing up the pace Three Floyds...one of my favorite lagers.
