Notes:
9.5-11.0% ABV, 100 IBUs - This complex double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA we have brewed an ale that is both pleasing to drink and, once again, “not normal.” Cheers! June release.

22oz bomber sent by Will (thanks man!) poured into a New Belgium Globe.
A: Bright, brilliant clear orange, with a small amount of bright white head, some decent lacing, and ample carbonation.
S: Very midwest hoppy...fruity, tropical...pineapple, mango, papaya, honey, a bit of malt backbone, caramel, sweetness. Nice and balanced.
T: Excellent hop profile kept in check with a solid malt backbone and lactose. Initially the hops arrive with flavors of grapefruit, pineapple, peaches, mango and sweet pine, but they never overwhelm the palate. There is a good amount of creamy caramel breadyness.
MF: Creamy, medium-full, good carbonation, moderate dryness on the finish.
O: Very nice offering. I like how the hops play with the lactose and malt body. FFF is good stuff. Recommended.
Thanks Will!

Appearance is golden with a light white head and nice lacing.
Nose has a warm, syrupy-sweet hop aroma. There is also fresh mint, honey, and lime zest. Wonderful to smell.
Taste is honeyed hops, with pine, caramel, and tart grapefruit. There is also toasted marshmallow and pecan.
Mouthfeel is smooth, but not necessarily creamy; meaning that the lactose sugar isn't readily apparent, but definitely adds an overall fullness. There is plenty of carbonation. The hop bite is prolonged and not sharp.
Overall, 3 Floyds did it again. This is unique, flavorful, and fun to drink.

A: more is a light orange and gold, with high transparency. Thick and frothy head formation, about 2 fingers worth a, the retention and lacing is enormous. Carbonation is high as well
S: huge hops! Deep citrus and exotic fruits (mango, grapefruit, and peaches) are picked up. An ever so slight burnt malt character.
T: Hops and more tropical fruits (mango, grapefruit, peaches) are the main player here again. Lots of citrus. There is a nice slight burnt sugar malt that sits in there as well holding this one together. It’s actually a very unique brew and very well put together
M: solid medium bodied. The hops are excellent as they do not sit on the tongue for an epically long period of time like some other IPAs will. This allows me to want to hit the glass again. Alcohol is present on the upper lips and gums but it complements the beer quire nicely.
O: impressive. Really did not know what to think of this beer and I found it quite enjoyable. I am pretty stubborn when it comes to IPAs, but this one was definitely one of the nicer ones I’ve had in a while. Definitely a unique brew and thought that the balance of the tropical fruits and hops were amazing. And the backbone that keeps this all together was quite impressive as well. Well done FFF, well done.

Thanks to Masterski for this one.
Poured from a bomber,
Appearance: Radiant light gold body with about 2-3 fingers worth of dull white foam but a solid clear body with a chilled haze.
Smell: Fresh peaches, mango, bit of burnt sugar, raw hops but more on the sweet fruit side.
Taste: Ripe fruit, bit of caramel, sugar, fruit syrup, green hops, bit earthy, sweet citrus, malt first and quite present though hops vie for attention as well.
Mouthfeel: Bit thick as it coats the mouth and the bitterness starts midway right through the finish and beyond.
Overall: A real nice DIPA though i think i prefer Dreadnaught.

Poured from a "bomber" bottle into an English "pot" pint glass.
Apricot/gold in color, with a nice, two-inch head of off-white foam.
Aroma-Citrus and floral hop notes
Taste-Sugary sweet citrus hops, like a ruby red grapefruit with tons of sugar piled on. The lactose milk sugar cuts the hop bitterness down, and lends a drinkability, but leaves things a bit too sweet in my opinion. No strong hop flavor to be had. Certainly a different take on an Imperial IPA.

Bottle poured into a Three Floyds pint glass on 8/4/12.
Pour: Completely hazy orange with two fingers of white fluffy head. This beer emits a beautiful glow. On par with the best Hill Farmstead beers in appearance. Leaves a little lacing.
Smell: Grapefruits explode from the glass. Like to the max. A light honey sweetness tries to balance but ultimately does not. This beer is very hop forward on the nose and I'm more than ok with that.
Taste: Amazing grapefruits and some nice pine, that does not bite in the common resinous fashion. Malt provides a nice sweetness. The beer got better warmer, and I think the lactose sweetness incorporates better after sitting in the glass for 15 or so minutes.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body, but the juiciness and creamy consistency beg you to drink more. Woah... this is 11%???
Overall: Even at a month old, this beer blew me away, and I've been a regular to Three Floyds hoppier offerings (Dreadnaught, Panzer Wolf, Zombie Dust). I was incredibly impressed, and this beer is in my top 5.

Big Brown bomber style bottle with a ridiculous crazy looking one eyed bull on the label. Typical but fantastic FFF artwork. Poured into a nonic pint glass.
A - glowing bright orange with yellow glow around the edges. Slightly clouded haze look. Thick and luscious bone white head that is very soft and smooth looking with a thick layer of lace. Wonderful stick to the glass.
S - earthy and citrus hop offerings. Very fruity aroma of orange, grapefruit, lemon, and peach. Something a little more tropical with the likes of ripe kiwi. Sweet sugary malt notes top off a great and full floral smell.
T - hops are mellow in this flavor. Some citrus and earthy pine hoppiness that are indeed mellow but still give a nice soft blend of citra flavor. Very unique milk sugar sweetness from the lactose sugars added. Fruity and sweet notes of orange and tangerine. Hops are very much in the background as the fruitiness and sweet milk sugar Malta provide a velvety smooth flavor. Hop bitterness creeps back in with the finish, but isn't strong as the bitterness goes nearly unnoticed as is the alcohol.
M - thick medium to full body that almost cakes the mouth in a velvety layer of liquid thickness. The texture reminds me of cold chocolate milk not in flavor but in feel. Shocking at 11.0% the alcohol is impossible to detect. Very smooth and lusciously thick mouthfeel. Easy to drink.
O - a damn fine DIPA. It's unique and sweet for a big ipa. A lot of it will remind you of something darker as you describe it. It's truly a world class take on a great style. It's a one of a kind dbl/imperial ipa that's both mouth watering and refreshing making your taste buds beg for more. After having this, FFF leaves me no choice but to put this in my top 5 favorite brews of any kind. A pure dandy and a must have if available. It's that great.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a pint glass.
Unreal art on the bomber!!!
Looks incredible with an apricot-copper glow with a white head with good lacing.
Aroma is spicey, massive hops, light fruity, boozy, light fruit, grass, and pines.
Sweet and bready for a huge DIPA. Piney with a hint of orange. It's malty with a nice bite of hops but not a huge hop bomb. Maybe due to the Lactose.... not detecting anything odd that makes it a lactose sugar beer.??
Mouthfeel is good with a syrupy feel and low carbs. Really nice and not really bitter at all on the after taste.
I finally pulled the trigger on this one on #IPADAY. Glad I was able to try this one! Not as good as Dreadnaught though, but a solid DIPA.

Pours a hazy apricot with a finger of foamy cream colored head.
The aroma is full of tropical hop aromas, getting a nice touch of peach and a touch of booziness. Smells great!
The taste follows the nose. Great tropical fruit hop bomb, nice mix of peach and a little caramel malt to give it a little balance.
Full bodied with an appropriate amount of carbonation. Could stand to have a little more but a fantastic mouthfeel as is. Slight alcohol burn, hides the 11% pretty well.
Overall, this is a very tasty DIPA. Loved the tropical and peach notes! Hides the abv well and it was delicious.

Bottle pour at the bottle share hosted by Adam Fine Wine & Liquor held at Sophie’s Place in Redondo Beach, CA.
Pours a slightly hazy light orange with a foamy bone colored head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, and alcohol aromas. Taste is much the same with a sweet flavor and malty finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

Three Floyds Apocalypse Cow
Appearance: Three Floyds July specialty selection pours a golden yellow with a slight orange tint. A rocky, soapsuds white head perches itself majestically atop the brassy liquid, but its reign is short lived as it settles down from an imposing three fingers to a more modest (yet tightly bubbled) one. Carbonation is evident, but not overly active, and there are no alcohol legs to speak of. It’s a pretty beer, but nothing really special.
Aroma: The beer smells mainly piney and sweet. There are definite notes of citrus and pine resin, but the milk sugar (the ingredient that sets this one apart as “not normal”) is also present towards the back of the aroma, slightly hidden, but lurking. There are hints of pear and tangerine as far as specifics go, but pine is really the dominant smell. A very slight creaminess is also noticeable, though just barely.
Taste: Complexity is an understatement here. This beer is simply astonishingly deep. The hops hit quickly up front, but are quickly washed away by a formidable creaminess and sweetness (from the lactose and the malts) that would be approaching levels of overpowering and unpleasant sweetness if not for the resurgence of the bitter, piney hops. These flavors fight fervently for the battlefield that is the taster’s tongue, though they eventually settle on terms of a tie and go down together, which is really a win-win for those of us enjoying this delicious drink. I wish I could give this more than five points for this category.
Mouthfeel: …is another homerun for the superior “cow” related beer (sorry, New Glarus; this Wisconsin native still loves you). It is smooth but not watery, bubbly but easy to drink down, creamy but not a mouth-coater. This beer, like the taste (and like all great beers) is balanced perfectly, with a bit of dryness that is not unpleasant.
Overall: Whatever reservations and lack of “It” factor Apocalypse Cow may have had in the first two categories of review it made up for where it really counts. This is a beer that proves sometimes we critics can judge a beer by its cover, or a book by its aroma, or however that goes, and that judgment can be wrong when it comes to the real substance of the book or beer or what-have-you. Those abnormal Floyds from Munster have done it again with this gem of an ale. I’ve been anticipating acquiring this beer for some time, and as it jumped straight into my Top Five beers, it is safe to say it was worth the wait and worthy of the hype. Though the final score will not reflect the awesomeness that is drinking Apocalypse Cow, regulations and rubrics must be followed. 18/20

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint.
This beer pours out a hazy orange color with three fingers of head. The aroma is full of citrus, floral, and piney hops, with some lactose sugar in there to make things a bit different. The taste is, again, fairly unique for a DIPA. It comes in strong with the citrus and tropical hops at first, but this is augmented immediately by the lactose. The sweetness from the lactose seems to bring out the tropical flavors from the hops to ride out the finish. The mouthfeel is full and slightly drying, and the drinkability is very good. This is probably my least favourite of all the hoppy beers I've had from Three Floyds so far. And it's still really good! I do appreciate that it brings something new and unique to the table, but I wouldn't mind more aggression.

Appearance: Clear medium amber. Head is bright-white, fluffy, and rocky. Drops to a tiny cap and decent clar after a couple minutes. Aggressively sticky lacing.
Smell: Huge hit of pine resin and citrus. Grapefruit, tangerine, pith and oily zest. Lactose sweetness runs right behind it. Mts are big and loaded with sweet bready, caramel, and mildly roasted aromas. Slight grassiness and earthiness as well. Almost pushes toward toffee. Oily hops.
Taste: Aggressively hoppy. Pine builds as an oily, resinous, strongly bitter component. Grapefruit rind in the mix. Huge malt sweetness augmented with the super sweetness of the lactose sugars. Bready and nicely roasted. Caramel malts add another layer of sweetness. Orange and touches of tangerine as it warms.
Mouthfeel: Moderate body that leans toward full. Moderate carbonation. A touch dry. A touch creamy.
Overall: Less aggressive than other Three Floyd's DIPAs. Huge flavor, but nicely balanced for what it is. Lactose adds some backing sweetness, but ultimately the hops crush it.

Nothing really stands out, it's typical fare as far as appearance is concerned. It's a clear, light shade of orange, like the color of a nectarine or peach. The head is white, very fluffy and distinctly IPA. Good retention, leaving a nice lace when it eventually does die.
Borderline perfect smell as it's full of citrus and pine. Slightly different citrus flavors, as pineapple and grapefruit shine.
Taste is right up there with smell...borderline perfect. Very piney. A lot of citrus. Alcohol and a slightly medicinal flavor.
Sweet up front with a hoppy bite at back. Medium bodied. Some heat from the alcohol. Lots of citrus. Almost a burnt candy feel.
This was a stellear DIPA. Extremely drinkable despite the high ABV and IBU. Good balance. Simply put, an outstanding beer for the type, or any type for that matter.

Thanks to Robbiemoy13 for this bottle.
A - Medium orange with a yellow glow and half a finger of white head.
S - Big sweetness up front with plenty of caramel notes. The hops add pine and citrus
T - A huge bitterness up front. Pine, citrus, lighter floral flavours come through from the hops. The sweetness shows up in the middle and adds some caramel. The finish is dry and bitter.
M - Medium body, moderate carbonation. Some good hop oils are present throughout.

Interesting concept from 3Floyds. On tap at 4th Street Cafe in Columbus.
The body is a bit darker than usual with a smaller than average head. The smell is loaded with a balance of fruit and pine with a good amount of resinous flavors as well. The taste has the same quality as Blackheart, but different. Blackheart has oak, but this has Lactose. The lactose works wonders balancing out what would normally be a overly bitter resinous beer, and magically you get a very creamy balanced slightly fruity and resinous IPA that drinks WAY below the 11%.

Pours a beautiful golden haze with fluffy thick cream colored head. Visible carbonation. Head sticks around for quite some time. Not much in the nose up front, possibly due to the thickness of the head. Pretty lacing up and down the whole way through.
Balance is perfection. Bold hoppiness and citrus is leveled off with a malty cream after taste. Lighter than most DIPAs I've come across, but an A+ offering from Three Floyds. As I expected.

From 22oz bomber bought at the brewery into a Duvel tulip.
A - HUGE, dense, white foamy head with large fluffy bubbles. Beer is hazy deep yellow in appearance. Great sticky lace clings to the side of the glass all the way down.
S - For a FFF brew, this nose is mild. I think the lactose mutes the powerful hops aroma a bit too much. They are still there for sure, but subdued. I give FFF credit for doing something different and out of the box tho.
T - And THERE are the hops. Even with the lactose, the hops announce themselves throughout the drink. Front, middle and end are steeped in hoppy twinge. The lactose does make this a creamier and smoother beer.
M - Creamy, frothy, creamy. For me, its just too much. I like the balancing attempt, but it goes to far for me. Not bad at all, just not my thing.
O - The sum of its parts make this a very interesting beer. While the hop presence is as strong as you would expect, the lactose sugar creates an interesting blend. For those that like a strong hop sensation but not the burn, this is for you. The alcohol is fairly noticeable though. For me, a tad less booze and lactose and this would be a true winner.

22oz bomber, nice healthy pour into SA glass.
Clear yellow elixir, thick 2-finger white head, tiny clinging bubbles, lacing coats the glass from first sip.
Hefty aroma of lemon zest, dank hops, tropical fruit. Wonderful.
Smooth, hop bitterness from front to back of buds. Tangy, citrus. Minimal malts are overwhelmed. Just like I likes it.
Fizzy, full bodied, alcohol peeks through.
Very nice brew from the boys known for their hops. Lemon aftertaste lingers dropping this review a bit.

Pours deep gold with a sticky 2 finger white head. Gorgeous.
As with most three floyds this one is hopped up. Lots of pleasant citrus hops with a little sugar cookie malt backbone.
Starts out citrusy. All out hop assault as the sugar cookie flavor is apparent too, but quickly drowned out by another rush of resiny hops. Finishes very creamy. I don't remember the milk sugar playing this large of a role in previous years, but I like it.
Creamy mouthfeel with good medium-low carbonation.
I really enjoyed this one this year more so than I normally do. I'm not sure if it's just a good batch or if this is just the freshest I've ever had it, but all aspects of it really shine. While the milk near the end of the palate is a bit weird at first, it really ends up working. I may going back to the well for another before the month is up. Too bad it won't cellar and only comes for a month every year.

Another great offering from Three Floyds!
Pours out a really nice slighty hazy orange with tints of yellow and 2 fingers of white and fluffy head.
The aroma is full of hops. There are really nice piney and citrus hops along with floral that make this smell like an in your face kind of brew.
The taste is mainly hops, hops and more hops. It starts off with nice tropical hop flavors like pineapple, mango and grapefruit and then there is a nice piney hop taste with a ton of what tastes just like fresh squeezed, dank hops. There is a slight sweetness at the end that balances the bitterness and a nice bready malt characteristic that lingers on the palate.
You can't taste or smell any of the alcohol which is very impressive and it finishes very smooth. I'm so very glad Ohio is lucky enough to get Three Floyds.

22oz bottle served in a 22oz Arogant Bastard pilsner.
A- nice hazey golden orange. One finger white head with good retention. Lacing is thin but holds nicely.
S- hops, sweet honey malts and slight alcohol burn. It truly smells perfectly balanced. Not to much in the way of lactic sugar or sweet milk.
T- holy complexity. Very nice biter hop presence balanced with sweet malt flavor and lingering milk feel. I like a lot.
M- easy drinking with medium carbonation and viscosity. I easily finished this 22oz and could do it again no problem.
O- one of my favorites from FFF's. The hop profile is spot on and it's not overly malty or sweet. Drinkablity is amazing.

22 ounce bottle. This just showed up at my local beer store recently, so I assume it's the newest batch of this brew. Served in a tulip, the beer pours a hazy golden/orange color with about an inch off-white head that sticks around for a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is mostly citrusy (grapefruit, pineapple) and pine hops, along with some bready malt. It tastes mostly like citrusy hops (tropical fruit, mango, grapefruit), and also some lactose and bready malt. There's definitely some sweet flavors in this brew. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's creamy and a bit slick with a good amount of carbonation. I think this is a good brew, I'd buy this again in the future. $10.99 a bottle.

Serving Type - 22oz bottle
Appearance - Light golden yellow, cloudy, thick with a nice 3/4 inch white head and nice lacing.
Smell - Strong piney/grapefruit hops, added suagars, light malt backbone. Very floral and tropical.
Taste - Huge hop kick at first sip, but the lactose adds a different sugared, flavor. It really mellows out the hop bitterness. Malts are bold and balance this brew out even more. Very floral and sweet, alcohol is masked well also.
Mouthfeel - Strong tropical flavors coat whole mouth. Tounge gets hops, sugars, and malts, were palate gets hops and the lactose sugars. Aftertaste is sweet, dry and bitter.
Overall - Different, tasty and easy to drink. Not sure im digging it as much as panzer wolf or dreadnaught but its really good and a nice change of flavor with the lactose. Worth a drink for sure.

22oz bottle into a Hopleaf tulip.
A: Pours a murky yellow with a big white head. Nice lacing.
S: Tropical and citrus hop notes: clementine, pineapple. Sweet doughy malt behind.
T: Orange, mango, pineapple, slight bitter kick. Malt profile is sweet and exceptionally smooth - the lactose is definitely perceivable and pleasant. Pale malt and milky sugar.
M: Relatively thick for a DIPA, but works well with the lactose. Soft carbonation.
O: I like the use of the lactose here - gives it a soft, smooth feel.
