A- incredibly cloudy, unfiltered (like everything FFF) golden Hef, minimal white head. Served in a Weisen glass.
S- deep Hefeweisen smell, cloves/banana.
T- so great, much fuller taste than the other Hefeweisens I've had. Imagine an even stronger tasting Weihenstephaner. Suprisingly smooth for an unfiltered.
M- Better than other Hefeweisens I've had as well. Most are a little watery, but this was exactly right. Full but smooth.
D- a great beer all around. Possibly the best Hef I've had. Better than on-tap Weihenstephaner, which is saying something for me.

This beer arrived in a wheat glass with a 1/2" of white, everlasting foam. I could smell the beer the beer from 3 feet away. The beer was breadcrust brown and was so hazy, I couldn't even see shapes through it.
This brew is about as sweet as a hefe can be. A bit more malt taste help smooth it would make this an even better beer. But it was a great beer as it was. The biggest knock I can give it is that it was thick on the tongue and didn't finish clean. It had the texture of a Russian imperial stout, but with the wheat flavor. Because of this, I wouldn't be able to drink more than a glass or two.

On tap at Local Option.
Served in a pint glass, hazy orange yellow hefe appearance. Creamy foam, not overly present, but an unbroken skim is steadfast across it's surface.
Wheaty with banana and apple juice traces in the aroma. Sort of raw from the wheat, and a little bit of bubblegum from the yeast.
Light and drinkable, very traditional hefe here with banana and mild apple astringency. Not spicy or clove-y in the least. Smooth body, finishes fairly dry and quenching. Glad to have tried this, but not one to go bananas over.

Enjoyed this great Hefe on-tap at the Three Floyds Brewery.
Taste: full-mouthed wheaty-goodness. Banana esters in aftertaste
Smell: bubblegum, wheat
Appearance: opaque, golden, nice thick head that falls to a thin layer of small tight bubbles.
Mouthefeel: slight acidic bite, nice medium-full wheaty mouthfeel

On Tap at Sheffield's in Chicago
Orange-Golden color with two fingers of head that slowly and completely dissipates. Smells of bubble gum, with sweet orange peel alongside bready yeast and mild coriander.
The beer has a nice balance between sweetness on the front and and hops on the finish. This is a subtle beer, with no one flavor jumping out in front of any others. Mildly carbonated, and refreshing. On one hand, I love to have a little more flavor, and somewhat expect it from a FFF beer. On that other, the mildness of the beer makes it quite drinkable.

On tap at FFF.
A - Pours an orangish golden color into Wiesse glass with a white head. The head forms a ring around the glass and remains as a thin layer on the top. There's some lacing that sticks around.
S - Banana bread is the dominating smell here. Some yeast musty notes, but mostly bananas.
T - Slight bitterness, bananas, yeast and a small amount of citrus bite as well.
M - Light bodied but a very full mouthfeel, which is cool. Light carbonation but fits right in for the style.
D - A very sessionable beer, no doubt about it. Probably the best hefe I've had to date. Looking forward to trying the Live Oak for comparison.

Another fine brew that I enjoyed at Three Floyds. The simple pleasure of sitting at the bar connected to the internet, writing this review. The beer came served in proper Hefe glass.
Creamy 3 finger head. Hazy straw to light amber color. Not much lacing to speak of.
Earthy, spicy and of course, banana. Very fresh..
Banana cream flavor with malt tones. And by malt, I mean like the shake. Really reminded me of the dessert with Nilla wafer, pudding and banana. Btw, I love that!! Certainly there was a sweetness here. Just the right amount of spice and all the basics are there. Coriander and a touch of clove.
Creamy bright mouth feel. The creaminess almost made the body seem thicker than it really was.
I enjoyed this and would have another on my next trip. Perhaps a bit sweet to enjoy multiple of this creamy sweet one..

Shared with the wife while bellied up to the bar at the Three Floyd's brewpub. Hadn't even heard of this one until we walked in the door.
Light & swirly like a hefe should be. The smell is the brew's strongest point, like sticking two nostrils into a blender of bananas. Too far. You know, so you end up with banana up your nose. Like that.
Drunk Monk is dominated by the banana taste, along with sweet candy. The wheat of the weizen if far behind these two & more of an afterthought. Not a traditional hefe, but good. The definition of crisp & refreshing.
Very good brew. Above average hefe but short of playing with the big boys.

Appearance a nice light gold with a frothy white head. The smell was a nice medley of banana, clove, coriander, and a bit of wheat. The taste was also that of bananas and spices. A very smooth brew with wonderful flavor in each sip. As far as hefes go, this one is one of the best. Even though I try to limit my mass wheat intake, this beer could keep me regular easily. If only this beer was bottled and distributed.

I had this on tap at the Three Floyds brewpub. It was served in a tall hefewiezen style glass and looked perfect. Hazy golden color with a poofy white head. The smell was nearly perfect too, cloves and bananas.
The flavor was so good I swear they rebottled some of the best German stuff. Nearly perfect wheat beer flavor and texture, this was probably my favorite Three Floyds beer ever (maybe just a little better than GumballHead).
If they start to bottle this I'll be buying it in quantities.

An excellent American Hefeweizen, sitting right up there in quality with it's esteemed German counterparts. I was really impressed, very rarely do American brewers get this style quite right, but FFF has done it! Pours a hazy gold in color with a fluffy white head, served in a proper weizen glass. Nose was excellent, banana and bubblegum, plenty of yeasty notes as well. Taste followed suit, massive banana notes with clove almost matching, bubblegum in the background. Mouthfeel was spot on, fizy and full, yet still light enough and very refreshing!
I'm impressed!

This beer came a foggy, golden orange that faded to a creamy straw near the edges and the bottom of the Weizen glass with a tall, creamy nearly white head.
Smelled of sweet bread dough with tones of pineapple and mandarin orange and a strong bubblegum.
Tasted like powdered sugar with some cherries, banana and melons with a strong musky wheat and an afterthought of electric bittering hop.
The mouth feel felt light but dense and very smooth.
For me, this one was just way too sweet. I didnt finish this one as I swapped glasses with a buddy to try something else that didnt come across so sugary. Not to hot for the style.

(Served in a weizen glass)
A- This beer has a warm orange glowing hazy body with a thick creamy white head on the top. There was no sign of carbonation through that thick body.
S- The smell of big ripe bananas came through as the glass was set on the table. Some faint soft wheat notes and a hint of bubblegum was in it aswell.
T- The banana taste was that first thing I got but it wasn't as strong as the aroma. There was some smooth wheat flavor that hung on the breath after each sip.
M- This beer had a medium mouthfeel with a nice creamy texture.
D- This beer can hang with the best of the German HWs. It had good fresh flavor and nice mouthfeel although the banana in the nose was almost too much.

Sampled this at the brewpub, the night before the Dark Lord release party. Served in a 23oz. hefeweizen glass. Awesome color, deep yellow, orange and almost pinkish, thats right pinkish color, and super cloudy. Most definitely, the cloudiest brew, I've ever had. Looks like a peach milkshake or a peach slurpy. Lots of carbonation, with a quick fading off white head. Fanastic smells of banana, candy, wheat and bubblegum. Very strong and an absolute pleasure to smell. Taste is just as good, yeast, bananas and sweet candy flavors. Good mouthfeel, creamy and low abv, I could drink this all night long. A nice surprise from Three Floyds and one I wish they would bottle. If ever at the brewpub, order up a Drunk Monk, you wont be dissapointed.

Gorgeous cloudy tannish brown hefe, obviously unfiltered. Highly carbonated quickly dissipating head.
An explosion of banana, vanilla pudding, clove, bubblegum, wheat germ, and yeast tease the sensories. Wonderful!!
Vanilla pudding, thick concentrated yeast flavors, very round pronounced mouthfeel. This hefe is pure banana lovers paradise. With a clove, bubblegum finish. Spectacular hefe.
Able to drink this one all night long. Could be confused for a banana milkshake if overly intoxicated or blind.

A standard but inviting looking Hefe poured from the tap into a '23oz weizen glass' at the Three Floyds brewpub.
Fruit, orange, lemon, banana, yeast, malts and even a slight hint of hops, waft into your nose.
Can't wait any longer, forget what you smelt, you are not prepared. Sweet fruits, dry yeast, smooth malt and a fruit hop finish all the while the lemony and banana notes stay all the way through. I can't get over just how much flavor this mauls your palate with. I hate to sound like a fanboy, but 3F can do no wrong. This is my most favorite Hefe I've ever had, and I absolutely adore Weihenstephaner. Sorry to make the comparison, but it's that good.
Ok, be subjective... While purists may note that it's potentionally outside the norm for the style with some of the character it has, it's all the better for it. I could drink this all day long and for the rest of my life and not miss anything else. It's a damned shame they don't bottle this. Get there and give it a go.

Poured into my 23oz glass at the pub. A nice white head sits on top of a hazy dark gold body with ample amount of carb bubbles rising to the top. Banannas dominate the nose initially with some floral hops. The banannas continue in the taste but drop quickly replaced by some wheat and hop at the end. A good session beer that will be gone all too soon.

Had this on tap at 3 floyds brewpub.
A good-looking hefe, cloudy and orange-tan colored. no real head to speak of. some lacing.
Odor is wheaty and yeasty and maybe some grapefruit??
Taste is great. a smack of sweet wheaty goodness.
Mouthfeel is smooth and soft. no real hard carbo feel on the tongue.
Drainkability is great too. this would be even better in the summer, just as the sun starts to go down. do they bottle this one?

In the glass this beer appears a clear honey amber color with a small head that quickly disappears.
I note the scent of slightly spiced citrus. As the beer warms I detect a hint of banana.
Taste is wheat with a trace of yeast. Alcohol front with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
Medium light bodied brew. With the rapid dissapation of the head I am suprised by the carbonation feel on my tongue.
I can see myself drinking this one again. I will definitly drink this again.

Pours wonderfully weizeny hazy sunshine petals into a weizen glass. Good deal, 23 ounces to savor.
Good weizen smell: white pepper wheatmalt, clove and banana. A bit stronger than most weizen smells, but still a pretty standard weizen smell.
Wonderful but not overwhelming complexity. Big banana character to start out. Like candied, sugared bananas. The potent sweetness gives way to a big burst of wheatmalt spice, heavy on the cloves and leaving allspice for the aftertaste, ending on more fruit sweetness, orange and banana.
Probably the best American hefe I've ever had. Good weizens usually go one of two ways: either they go for a spice complexity with a hop finish or a sweet complexity with a fruit finish. This is a good mixture of both, and even though it's missing the usual Ka-Pow! of hops you get from 3F, it's still very good.
Were this bottled and distributed I'd buy a couple cases worth every summer.
