T: Beautiful. Lactose, sweet sugar, little chocolate, fresh creme, butterscotch, toffee, caramel, would pair well with caramel truffles.

M: frothy thick body, silky, decadent, creamy, wonderful carbonation for this type,

O: This is an outstanding offering from FFF. Nothing short of amazing.

Huge thanks to IrishHockey for this brew. Poured into a snifter. No freshness date.

A- Pours a densely opaque black color with a 3/4 inch dark tan head that has good retention before reducing to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a large, bubbly patch of surface foam. Thin but resilient lacing leaves a solid ring around the glass.

S- Lots of coffee and milk chocolate in the nose that's in the middle of the spectrum as far as roast goes. Faint alcohol aroma shows itself after some short, sharp sniffs.

T- Luscious milk chocolate and smooth dark roast character. Caramel and burnt sugar come to mind. The flavors are straightforward and blend perfectly. Light note of coffee.

M- The complexity comes in with the creamy mouthfeel that's bold and stands up with the robust body. Slick and not overly chewy

O- Just as outstanding as I was expecting. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch A Clockwork Orange to celebrate cuz that's how I do.

Thanks to Doogie71628 for this want! 22oz bomber poured into Three Floyds pint glass also thanks to Doogie71628, thanks a ton man! Been wanting to drink this one for awhile.

A- Pours an almost completely opaque jet black with about a fingers worth of fairly thick creamy mocha head that has nice retention but slowly fades away to no head leaving behind pretty much no lacing (although second glass which I poured more aggressively did leave some thick layered lacing). Average to slightly above average carbonation for a stout.

S- Roasted malts, dark chocolate, lactose sugars, a hint of licorice. Pleasant sweet aroma with slightly above average aroma strength.

T- Roasted malts, licorice, dark chocolate, lactose sugars along with some dark fruits and alcohol come out a little bit more on the finish. Roasty chocolate lingers for awhile as an aftertaste. Nice balance and fairly flavorful, although I wasn't a huge fan of the finish.

M- Medium bodied- nice body for a milk stout, way too overcarbonated for a stout in my opinion which ruined this beer a little bit for me.

O- This was a nice milk stout although probably not my favorite. Personally I'd probably take Left Hand's over this. It was very nice and definitely enjoyable. I would recommend trying it out if you like stouts. Looking forward to trying the cognac version tomorrow!

Review taken from notes mid-September 2012.

1 pint 6 oz. brown bomber style bottle. Again great FFF artwork on the label.
Poured into a nonic pint glass.

A- Color is a soft black with some dark brown around the edges. Fluffy head that is a shade of dark khaki in color. There is some stick but not much on the glass. This stick seems to be well attached to the head of this stout. Quite nice!

S- Milk chocolate aroma and big roastiness. Roasted malt and some dark fruit sit firmly in this aroma. Lactose sugar is there

T- Dark chocolate that isn't your typical bitter dark as it has some sweetness that blends into sweet milk chocolate. Good roasted malt notes come to life with touches of citric hop presence. Dark fruit in the background with the sweet lactose milk goodness throughout this flavor.

M- Smooth and thick as it covers every inch of the mouth. The finish is stunning with light bitterness. Easy to drink and very refreshing.

O- this milk/sweet stout is crafted to perfection as most FFF brews are. They allow the craft man to experience a different version of a stout with this one. A must try for stout guys as this one is about the best you can try of this style. It's all around qualities are pure class and I'll have this one every year it's available.

This one intrigued me. From the style to the clockwork orange reference name. I had to get my hands on this one.
This one is hard to explain for me. Sweet but not over powering. Milky, but not weird or disgusting. Coffee notes, but not overdone. I have to say that this is a very balanced, wonderful beer. I enjoyed this one so much, I bought out my favorite bottle shops stock.

A - Pours a darker brown with a tan, 1 finger head.

S - Lactose sweetness, milk chocolate and toffee notes.

T - Definitely very sweet in the beginning, almost like chocolate milk. But provides a bitter chocolate, dark malts and fruits.

M - Smooth and creamy, perfect mouthfeel.

Overall - I really like this beer. Provides a sweetness without being too sweet. Delicious.

Tired Hands wine glass

A: Pours a deep dark brown color. Not necessarily black, as I do see some light through it and reddish hues on edges. Thin layer of light tan head. Fades quickly into specs on glass. Seems to be carbonated, with some bubbles coming from bottom.

S: Really soft nose on this. Definitely pulling some of that lactic creamy milk quality. Some milk chocolate and light roast coffee notes.

T: Really nice flavor. So soft and creamy. Tip of the tongue gets that bitterness from the chocolate. Then you really get that creamy smoothing from the milk sugars. It dulls the roast grains and coffee flavors. The chocolate that remains isn't that aggressive dark cocoa, but more of a smooth milk chocolate milk character. The flaked oats probably help with that smoothness. Finish is still quite dry, with lingering flavors dancing on palate.

M: It's full bodied, but more of a medium leading to full. Carbonation helps thin it out.

O: A

pour is jet black with a caramel brown head. Nose is ashy fudge, light roast and toffee. Taste is fudge, light roast, caramel and toffee and a smidge of ashy coffee. Body is creamy, airy and easy to drink, carbonation is moderately prickly to balance with some lingering roast and bitterness in the finish.

22oz bomber poured into a FFF XV Anniversary glass

Moloko pours a great jet black color, hints of dark brown when held to the light, extremely opaque in complexion. A nice caramel colored head rests atop the beer, about three quarters of a finger high with tightly packed bubbles. The head recedes quickly leaving behind a lot of film but no lacing, a quick swirl of the glass re-summons the head fairly easily. Aroma has a nice amount of roasted malt, coffee, bitter chocolate and sweetness from the lactose and malts, but doesn't get sugary. Flavors are bit more complex, lots of roasted coffee, toasted malts, lactose sweetness, a touch of alcohol, brown sugar, nice bitter dark to milky chocolate with just enough milkiness to give that cream presence without being overly milky. Creamy body, carbonation is a bit high, a touch too prickly on the tongue, good milky finish.

Verdict: Solid milk stout, very true to the style, which comes as a bit of a surprise from FFF as they love to make "Not Normal" beer. Nice roast, ample sweetness, good body, easy to drink, hides the 8% very well, a must try for any stout lover.

Poured with a two finger thin and bubbly head. It looked quite syrupy going into the pint and displays a tar black color. The smell is of faint milk chocolate with very little burnt aroma. The mouth feel is thin and almost watery. I hope that I got a bad bottle because the taste is unremarkable. Almost acidic or metallic in taste I get a sweet aftertaste but that seems to be all. I've enjoyed all other Three Floyd's offerings but this seems to fail on my palate.

22oz bottle poured into tulip - thanks to brystmar

Pours an opaque black with a frothy tanned head resting on top. Fades into a collar of film with a few patches of lacing left behind on the glass.

Pleasantly sweet and roasty in the nose with a mix of dark malts and milk. Hints of chocolate and nuttiness with a faint alcohol warmth.

Roasted malts and milky tones right up front. Lighter chocolate sweetness with some nuttiness and a hint of coffee. Layered malt backbone with toasted bread crust. Finishes a little sweet, sticky and warm.

Fuller body, decent carbonation, sticky and creamy on the tongue. Pleasant, easy drinking and the alcohol is well hidden despite being a little higher for a Milk Stout.

Pours a viscous and deep black color, about a 1 finger tan head, with some light lacing. The aroma is nice - Sweetness and those lactose sugars are abundant and pleasant, also roasty malts, light milk chocolate, cream, and latte in there. The taste is even better than the nose. Sweetness and lactose sugar, heavy cream, milk chocolate, nice roasted malts, black coffee and latte mix, oats/oatmeal, possibly hints of caramel and toffee. Medium-heavy body mixes well with a light-medium carbonation, silky smooth consistency, and a light finish. Twinges of hops on the back end also.

Overall this is a pretty sweet beer, and I mean that both in taste in as a positive descriptor. Something about Three Floyds and lactose sugar just seems to click (I loved Apocalypse Cow) for me. I could drink this stout pretty often if I had access to it regularly. But for now, very happy to have gotten to try it. Thanks again to Ryan (tut2528) for this extra!

On tap at Mason Lounge Madison. Good looking pour into a tall goblet, black as night with an inch of rigid head and sticky lacing.

The aroma is mostly sweet coffee, with surprising waft of alcohol.

In the mouth the alcohol greets you first thing. It's a friendly hello, softened by the simultaneous smoothness that makes instant friends with tongue and teeth. Burnt sweet coffee Follows. Really good coffee.

This is a surprisingly booze-forward sweet stout, whose alcohol sweetness gives the sensation of it being a much bigger beer.

This beer poured out as a very nice looking black color with a light brown head on top. The head had a good retention and a sticky lacing. The smell of the beer is roasted and sweet. The taste is sweet, very nice roasted malt finish with a very nice balance. The mouthfeel is heavy, creamy and slick. Overall this beer is one of my favorites from FFF. A very nice sweet milk stout, I recommend this one to anyone.

Reviewed from notes.

Nigh black color with one finger of tan head that lasts for about two minutes and leaves behind some nice lacing patterns on the inside of the glass. Medium body and carbonation levels, -very- creamy smooth texture.

Smells and tastes of roasted malt, milk chocolate, and coffee latte with a semi-dry vanilla bean aspect popping up in the background intermittently. Sweetness levels are just high enough to place the brew as a Milk Stout yet restrained enough by roasted-ness to remain relatively user-friendly for those beer drinkers new to Milk Stouts. Well worth trying.

A: deep black body that has absolutely no other tones of color. The pour creates about ½-1 fingers worth of tan colored head that quickly dissipates.

S: I get a very nice balance of coffee grounds, rich milk chocolate, roasted malt and a slight vanilla/dairy note just a slight tinge of hops.

T: again, I pick up on roasted malt, slight coffee, and big milk chocolate with a massive cream finish. There is a nice hop note in there that creates a bit more complexity and prevents this brew from being too “dairy” based.

M: nice medium bodied brew, that leaves a nice slight milk chocolate note on the palate with an ever so slight touch of hops.

O: overall, I think this one is quite enjoyable. I think this is a great representation of the style. Even though I find that this brew is very big on the milk/creaminess, I find it well integrated with the chocolate, coffee and hop notes. It leaves me wishing that I had a variant of this one because I think they would be freaking awesome. All in all, another fantastic brew by 3F.

The pour is right up my alley. It's dark and thick. Pitch black, syrupy only darker, with a nice light brown head up top. Moderate retention and a spotty lace left behind.

The smell is right up there too. Dark roasted malts, a slight char scent, and your nose picks up the lactose milk sugar. You can almost smell the sweet.

I can't think of anything that I'd change. It's sweet and malty up front. The roasted smokiness follows the beer as it crosses the tongue. Slight chocolate taste and some toffee or caramel.

This is top shelf also. Sweet, smokey up front, the faintest bit of bitter in the finish to balance. Extremely creamy and smooth. Not sure how you could make it better.

Overall, it's an amazing beer. It's the easiest drinking beer I can recall. Everything about it is first rate and it's got good alcohol to boot. Easily one of the 5 best beers I've had.

650ml bottle poured into a Gulden Draak tulip glass.

Appearance- Motor oil black with mocha head that sits about a half fingers worth on the surface. Decent lacing.

Smell. Wow mouth watering. Roasty malt, coffee grounds, and oatmeal.

Taste- Oatmeal, coffee, chocolate and some bitter hops that give a perfect stout balance.

Mouthfeel- So silky and smooth like drinking an ice coffee with a chocolate milk mouthfeel.

Overall- This is world class. Definitely my favorite milk stout. The burnt coffee, chocolate, oatmeal and bitter hops work so well then add in the silky mouthfeel and it's so damn drinkable. I'm already a bit sad that this is only a seasonal and the place I bought it only had this one.

Served in snifter picked up from Big Red liquors Bloomington, IN. I have had this on tap multiple times and bottled various times as well. Thick head about two finger with a light brown foam. Black medium body. The roasted malt is what stands out for me in the taste. Also have tastes of chocolate milk and nuts. The aroma gives the chocolate, lactose and possibly a nutty flavor. A lot thinner taste than I though the lactose help balance the roasted malts to give a nice balance. Solid beer.

A- Pours dark brown, turns pitch black in the glass. A 2-3 finger of a tan head. Decent retention.

S- I get a lot of roasted malts on the nose. Roasted barley and maybe a little chocolate. There is also a tiny hop presences and a slight bitterness. Definitely some of the milky sweetness from the lactose.

T- A big bitterness surprisingly. There is also a decent hop flavor in this beer, there's a tiny bit of citrus and lemon tones. Malt profile is mostly roasty. A good dark grain presence. Oats and a slight chocolate. This is fairly sweet not surprisingly. The lactose is noticeable but doesn't dominate the beer like I was led to believe.

M- Drinks pretty easy for 8%. Smooth and well rounded. Its sweet. A surprisingly clean palate. Slight roasty aftertaste.

O- Really nice beer and a classic offering from 3F. One of the best Milk stouts I have had. Awesome bottle art as well.

2012 vintage poured into FFF Teku glass

Appearance: Black as can be with a billowing 2 to 2 1/2 light brown head. There is not any light coming through this beer. The head actually has a combination of tight bubbles and some large rocky bubbles that settles down slowly to a pillow on the beer. Lacing is evident. Nice looking beer.

Smell: Vanilla, roasted malt, milk chocolate dominate the nose. There is some light coffee present.

Taste: Sweet roasted malts mixed with vanilla and milk chocolate. It is a very smooth tasting brew that glides down so easily. It has a slightly bitter finish at the end that evens out the sweetness somewhat. Alcohol is pretty much non existent.

Mouthfeel: Like I said it is a very smooth easy drinking beer with a fairly high amount of carbonation. Silky smooth and not as thick as I was expecting and hoping for.

Overall: I have been on an IPA kick as of recently and I have to say this is exactly what I needed now. A perfect balance of sweetness, roasted malts and bitterness.

A-Deep black, two finger deep tan/brown head.

Got this beer from whole foods of all places. I had this about a year ago but could only get one bottle and I've been waiting for the release ever since this year to give it a good try.

Appearance is black, you cannot see through the beer. The head is a nice thick chocolatey foam.

Smell is of lactose, milk and chocolate. Imagine a very mild chocolate milk.

The taste and mouth feel is where it's at with this beer. A very smooth milk stout with a chewy mouth feel, I think I' in love.

Overall I highly recommend this beer. It's not too hard to find and in my opinion is one of FFF best beers.

2012 bottle enjoyed on 8/26/12 in a FFF teku.

Pour: This is the quintessential stout pour: pitch black, two+ fingers of fluffy khaki head. Leaves minimal lacing.

Smell: Chocolate and coffee roastiness really bursts from the glass. Some dark fruits sit in the background.

Taste: Bitter chocolate and coffee up front... almost a citrus aspect to the bitterness - FFF hops, duh. Nice raisin in there too.

Mouthfeel: Nice and refreshing on the mouth, but still a sipper. Great carbonation.

Overall: Really nice milk stout - will definitely get again.

from bomber to pint glass this beer pours out dark as night. a nice creamy brown colored head stands two inches tall. taste and smell are both very lactic, milky, a little chocolate and a touch of cold coffee bitterness, alochol pokes thru as it warms. mouthfeel is consistent for the style, but i wish it was a little fuller. overall very happy with this milk stout.
