First of four beers I enjoyed while at 3 Floyd's,

A: A beautiful nitro pour. Tons of bubbles that built a head that any brewer would be proud of. Once settled down it's dark as night with a nice 2 finger espresso head that lasts and lasts. Lacing, yeah there is lacing. Sheet after sheet from top to bottom of the glass.

S: Nice malty sweetness. Milk chocolate, coffee, and a bit of vanilla. What a stout.

T: Wow wonderful milk stout. They should bottle this one. Starts with a nice malty chocolate taste. Milk chocolate baby. This is overtaken by coffee, and a hit of sweetened toffee. Finishes with a hint of bitterness which reminds me of espresso... Knowing this is a 3 Floyd's brew you know this is hops coming out.

M: Soooo creamy. Man this is stout heaven.

D: This one came in an imperial pint, but I wish they could put it in a bomber, hell I would drink this one by the growler.

Overall: I love a good milk stout and this is just that. Big on taste and aroma. It goes down so smooth, that you are begging for another. This is a 3 Floyd's masterpiece. Man do I love their brews.

On tap at the Three Floyds Brewpub, on the nitro-tap. This stout poured a dark brown color with a thick, creamy tan head that lasted forever. The aroma of this stout was very faint roasted malts with some milk chocolate. The flavor was of soft milk chocolate and mild roasted chocolate malts. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with a creamy, nitro carbonation. This stout had excellent balance, and the heavier alcohol was very well hidden behind the other flavors. Another excellent beer from Three Floyds!

A - Pours with a thick, two fingered toffee colored head and settles down leaving a blanket of thick cream across the top.

S - Dark roasted chocolate, cream, and some coffee beans.

T - Dark roasted chocolate, slightly charred coffee, cream, roasted caramel, and light char. The cream gives a nice sweet side but the roasted malt balances things out very nicely. Finishes with a dark roasted chocolate and cream coating in the mouth.

M - Creamy, heavy medium body, silky carbonation on the tongue, and sticky.

O - I usually haven't enjoyed milk stouts in the past because the ones I've had were too sweet. FFF's strikes a really nice balance to offset the sweetness.

Appearance: Deep rich brown. Almost black until held to direct light. Head is a darkish khaki. Drops to a small creamy cap and collar. No lacing to speak of.

Smell: Deeply roasted. Some cocoa. Lactose sugar in abundance, but nicely countered by the bitter roasted character. Some hints of char and old coffee. Slightly burnt with some.caramel sweetness. Milk chocolate sweetness. Some backing oats.

Taste: Nice balance of lactose sweetness. Milky chocolate with some bitter cocoa. Hints of old coffee. Deeply roasted. Some char and smoke. Slightly burnt. Sweet cocoa powder. Nice balance between the milky sweetness and bitter cocoa.

Mouthfeel: Smooth with a medium body. Moderate carbonation. Clean finish. Some creaminess.

Overall: Decent but not truly memorable.

Solidly balanced, but missing something novel. Doesn't really live up to the Three Floyds pedigree. A solid benchmark.

Appearance: Deep brown, light brown head - good size, fades to a nice cap, leaves some nice streaks of lacing

Smell: Chocolate and lactose, as advertised - milk chocolate and some dark chocolate - roasty malts, and some sweet coffee - lactose sugar

Taste: Follows the smell, with lactose and chocolate - nicely roasted malts, adds a nice edge - dry, lightly burnt chocolate malts - lightly burnt, roasty notes go well with the lactose sugar - a little milky, creamy - on the sweet side, which I suppose is the point, and lightly oxidized

Mouthfeel: Medium body, nicely carbonated, lightly sticky lactose aftertaste

Overall: Too tasty to inspire ultraviolence

This is a solid, solid milk stout. It's a little too sweet, but I realize that is intentional. I don't think I could drink a whole bomber of this, but I would be happy to split another bomber in the future.

Pours dark brown/black with a two finger tan head. Smell is milk chocolate, some vanilla, marshmallow, smokey. Taste follows the nose, milk chocolate, sweet milk, again some smokeyness. This style usually ends up tasting cheap but this is very good. The texture is silky smooth and its not too sweet. Definitely worth picking up, very drinkable and very enjoyable. Not too complex, just good.

A- pours black, but not quite no light in escapable abyss sort of deal, bit of a ruby hue to the bottom of it hinting at the smaller size of the brew

S- Lots of sweetness followed by some nice roasted malts, a touch of cafe au lait here

T- Sweetness dominates, not much roast. mostly just sweet, a bit one dimensional for me

M- very creamy, delicious, easily best part about this beer

D- the over the top sweetness was a bit of a let down, but a good beer nonetheless

Appearance - Almost pitch black. Dark and thick, almost pours like motor oil. 2 fingers of dark caramel-colored head that hung around for a bit.

Smell - Chocolatey malt. Nothing overpowering.

Taste - Lightly sweet, hints of smoke and dark chocolate. Piney hop presence in the distant background.

Mouthfeel - Nowhere near as heavy as it looks. Thick, yet finishes light and wet. Slight stickiness on the lips afterwards. Smokey aftertaste.

Overall - Solid brew. This is an older bottle and it still tasted good (August release, and it's now February). I will definitely be trying it fresh later this summer. 8% ABV? You'd never know it. Goes down very smooth. Better be careful with this one.

Super dark brown pour.

Nose picking up on lactic sweetness, roasted malt and pipe tobacco.

Roasted malt base, mild coffee, milk chocolate, and light bitterness.

Velvety smooth-creamy. Tastes great chilled or up to room temp..

I had several of these and really love it. I felt this to be so creamy, I experimented and made a beer float with vanilla ice cream-pretty darn tasty as more of the bitterness came through. If you like Left Hand Milk Stout (and I do), I find this to be a notch better as Moloko its more chocolaty.

22 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly pitch black color with a nice 2 finger dense dark khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, dark bread, roasted malt, oats, cream, and light coffee; slight alcohol noticed as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of roasted flavors. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toffee, toast, oats, coffee, cream, dark bread, earth, and light herbal spiciness. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, toast, toffee, oats, coffee, cream, dark bread, and light herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice flavor balance and complexity; great roasted and sweet flavor balance; and zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial milk stout. Great balance and complexity of roasted and sweet flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.

Moloko is a very expressive, sweet, milk stout that has ample roated malt and associated chocolate flavors. The sweetness adds a depth of character akin to fine desserts, and the faint coffee influence performs similar feats. Excellent for fall and winter drinking, I enjoyed the beer on this cold and icy winter day. At $7.50 for 22oz of Three Floyds' beer, I consider this their most reasonable offerings. One to try if seen.

Pours a 2cm tall head of tan to burnt tan foam, composed of small bubbles, with above average retention, lasting about two minutes. The head eventually fades to a thin cap atop the body, thicker and with some large bubbles remaining around the sides. The lacing the head leaves is very good, adorning the sides of the glass with waves and columns of sticky foam; could be greater in size, but quite adequate. The beer's body is dark brown to black, opaque, with light making no changes. Carbonation is visible streaming along the sides of the glass, despite the beer's opacity.

Aroma is of roasted malt, milk chocolate, a chocolate milkshake-like sweetness, and faint coffee-with-cream. The very expressive, yet mild, sweetness, roasted malt, and chocolate are very pleasant.

A dangerous beer: rich, sweet, and chocolatey, almost candy-like, this can be very quickly enjoyed, and there is very little way to tell this is 8%. Front of palate picks up sweet cream with hints of milk chocolate. Mid-palate finds a rich assortment of coffee-with-cream sweetness, roasted malt, and milk chocolate. Back of palate picks up bitter chocolate, astringency from roasted malt, lingering chocolate milkshake sweetness, and a pleasing touch of hop bitterness. Aftertaste is of roasted malt, astringency, and possible hop bitterness.

Beer is medium-bodied, with carbonation of medium intensity. The result is a beer that is fizzy for a half-second, quickly foaming upon the palate and becoming smooth and creamy. Closes semi-dry, with substantial stickiness lingering across the palate.

2012 bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a dark brown/black with very little head. Some mahogany head on the edges of the glass is about it.

S: Sweet, smokey and coco coming through. Really surprised by the smoke aroma.

T: Sweet smooth milk chocolate, roasted malt that is heavy on the taste. Sweet smokey coco cream.

M: Thick, medium bodied with very little carbonation. Sweet finish, but not sticky/coating which I expected.

O: Pretty solid sweet stout. Really surprised by the smokeyness with this one, could almost be a smoke beer. I was expecting a southern teir type beer, and it doesn't do that. It's not the thick excellent imperial stout of ST, instead you get a smokey sweet thinner stout. Good for what it is.

22oz bottle from zrab11 (thanks man!). The lazer printed numbers on the bottle don't correspond with any human date I can imagine but this was released 08/12. Served in a Founders snifter.

Pours near black with mohogany edges and a quarter finger tan head that fades quickly, leaving small patches of lace.

Smooth sweet smells of cocoa, roasty malts and sweet cream.

Taste follows the nose- milk chocolate, roasted malts, lactose sugars, sweet cream, light prunes and burnt sugar. A nice blend that smoothly covers the alcohol.

Silky rich medium full creamy feel with moderate carbonation. Creamy, milky aftertaste.

This is one damn fine milk stout. Packed with smooth cream, sugar and roast, Moloko is pretty much spot-on for the style. If you're a fan of milk stouts this is dedinately worth a try.

a nice dark brown/black pour with a finger of tan head. smells of chocolate, subtle roasted scent, coffee, vanilla, pecans. nice roasted grains give you a coffee/tobacco flavor up front, followed by a subtle grassy hop kick, good amount of chocolate flavor as a backdrop.. this is a great imperial milk stout. you don't feel the booze at all, but it drinks pretty heavy for a medium body beer.. mild carbonation, creamy and silky.

a great milk stout, lots of dark roasted flavors perfectly balanced by sweet chocolate notes.

Bomber serve in a weizen glass pours black with a little light on edges, with a one finger khaki head with average retention and average fluffy lacing. Smells of sweet milk cream, roasted malts, chocolate. So sweet and so smooth, milk chocolate, sweet malts, some roasted nature, bakers chocolate and a bit of slightly sour milk finish, no bitterness. The mouthfeel is silky smooth, medium body, my esophagus enjoyed that massage, no alcohol detected. Love it, I've enjoyed all the milk stouts I've tried so far and this one is a big standout for me along with Left Hand's milk stout.

This was a bomber poured into a snifter.

A: 4.0 deep dark with a dark head and decent lacing
S: 5.0 this is what a stout should smell like, nice and chocolately and then dark malt
T: 5.0 very chocolately upfront and then followed by deliciously smooth roasted malts and a very slight hop finish
MF: 4.5 great carbonation, with a sexy, thick body
O: 4.5 great beer and I wish I could give it a 4.75 for overall. This is one of my favorite milk stouts.

Poured from a 650ml. bottle.

Appearance: A really dense brown-black body with a thick and cascading ecru colored head. Lacing is a left a bit wanting though.

Smell: Cocoa, bit roasted mixed with milkiness.

Taste: Real good cocoa and chocolate. The chocolate is a nice mix of milky and dark. Tiny roasted flavor in the finish. Flavors carries all the way through.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium body with average carbonation. Very drinkable but lacks a bit of substance.

Overall: Delivers for the style though i have had better. It seemed to lack a little oomph but overall is a good pick.

Another brew sent by Cuzco as part of the Blind Beers BIF, this was poured into my Lost Abbey stemware.

Inky black, a starless night. The head is thin, light tan, and fizzy. It's gone within seconds.

Hmm. Soft smoke and a bunch of teriyaki. Big handfuls of anise, a bit of sweet cocoa.

The flavor pretty well mirrors the aroma. Anise and soy are here up front, along with a little dark chocolate and tangy prunes. The swallow brings sweet milk, cocoa and smoke. Lingering notes of smoky meat.

Body is medium-light, with moderate carbonation. Breaks into fizz as it moves about. Just a touch of alcohol heat.

This has been a want for a while. Glad I got the chance to try it without bias.

650 mL bottle with no bottle date *shakes fist at FFF*. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Black with transparency at the edges. No real head. Collar and an island of foam meandering about.

Smell - Buckets of lactose. Chocolate roasted malt. Just a touch of hop. Way too much lactose.

Taste - Lactose and lots of chocolate. Then more lactose. It's all lactose. A touch of bitter roast in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Really sweet. Not boozy. Not bitter. A little overcarbonated.

Overall - I don't love lactose stouts and this is way over the top. Too much carbonation too.

This has a great flavor profile, tremendous balance, and great drinkability. It's rich, smooth, and complex. This is a great milk stout that is definitely worth trying.

650mL bottle poured into a Weyerbacher tulip. Thanks Aaron.

A - Pours nearly black with a very dense chocolate milk head. Shows excellent retention and a great tiered lacing.

S - Smells sweet and roasty with essence of black coffee, hershey bars, and toasted coconut. Very pleasant aroma.

T - It starts with roasted malts and follows with a chocolate milkshake sweetness. There is a mellow nuttiness and a lot of the flavor characteristics match those of a chocolate covered malted milk ball. Just the slightest bitterness on the back end, but finishes clean.

M - Creamy mouthfeel supports the rich flavors very well. Smooth finish. Drinks more like a beer with half the alcohol.

O - Another great beer from FFF. Fantastic flavors of malt and chocolate with great balance and drinkability. The mouthfeel is damn near perfect. Exactly what I was looking for in a beer tonight. This may be the best representation of this style that I have tried. I highly recommend it.
