On tap at Mason Lounge Madison. Good looking pour into a tall goblet, black as night with an inch of rigid head and sticky lacing.

The aroma is mostly sweet coffee, with surprising waft of alcohol.

In the mouth the alcohol greets you first thing. It's a friendly hello, softened by the simultaneous smoothness that makes instant friends with tongue and teeth. Burnt sweet coffee Follows. Really good coffee.

This is a surprisingly booze-forward sweet stout, whose alcohol sweetness gives the sensation of it being a much bigger beer.

Had on tap at the brewpub last week. Just opened a bottle I got to go.

This Milk Stout is top notch. Not sure if I've had a better Milk Stout overall. Or maybe it's just hitting the spot AGAIN!

A: terrific dark brown nice tan 1" head to protect the brew beneath it

Smell: Serious Milk stout jumps up and nips your senses, malts, sweetness too

T: terrific, thick enough to keep for you to fell the weight. Milk comes out right away, chocolate, slightest hop to finish.

M: Terrific, smooth as creme and balanced

O: Got to stock up on this one again this year. Pub to go for $8, worth every penny!

Enjoyed at the Three Floyds Brewpub and served in a nonic half pint glass.

Shiny black body and served with a one finger dark tan head. Great retention and significant lacing as the head recedes. The smell of roasted malt, notes of cocoa, and a light sweetness. Opens with light roastiness, joined by a mild hint of semi-sweet chocolate and light mild malted milk ball-like sweetness that is perfectly balanced with roasted malt. Medium to full-bodied, extremely creamy and silky smooth. In my opinion, Moloko sets a standard for milk stouts. Extremely balanced between sweetness and roastiness with a velvetly smooth presence on the palate. Just remember it certainly packs a punch with an undetectable 8% abv, higher than might be expected, especially for a milk stout. Its exceptional drinkability can make Moloko deliciously dangerous.

Enjoyed at the brewery.

A: single finger tan head with nice lacing on a jet black body, no light passing through.

S: vanilla, roasted malts, coffee, and milk chocolate.

T: vanilla, cream, roasted malts up front finishing with a very well balanced sweet chocolate and coffee bitterness.

M: smooth and creamy body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: very complex and well balanced, and each flavor is well represnted. Perfect degree of sweetness. This is an excellent mill stout.

On Tap

Pizza Port
Carlsbad, CA

Near black with ruby edges and a thin light brown head. Spots and lines of lacing left down the glass. Perfect for the style.

A relatively sweet nose consisting of caramel and molasses, a mild roast component, a bit of dark fruit (cherry?), some stinging vinegar, and a hint of alcohol.

Initially, this is a typical, tasty, sweet stout with hints of caramel and molasses complemented by roasted and chocolate malt and a bit of dark fruit. As it warms, however, an ever-present vinegar component pushes through, making this beer less and less enjoyable as it warms.

Medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.

An interesting sweet/oat stout. Unfortunately, this one was best cold from the tap and went downhill as it warmed.

A - Black beer with a small brown head that left just a slight bit of stick during consumption.

S - Very sweet, with lactic sugar and milk chocolate coming through on the nose. Little bit of roasted malt.

T - A little bit more roasty than on the nose. Nice milk chocolate taste.

M - Medium bodied, creamy appropriate to style, smooth, lower carbonation.

O - Good beer, nice taste, pretty easy to get down. Probably one of the better milk stouts I've had.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewery - poured dark, almost black with a thin tan head. Smooth, not-too-thick mouthfeel with good carbonation and sweet tastes of malt and chocolate.

So good I took a growler home, and have been enjoying with grilled steaks this week.

A great milk stout.

On tap at FFF.
served in a "penta-glass." (basically a tumbler with a 5 pointed bottom)

Dark opaque brown with a tan head. Nice lacing left behind-- looks like the film left behind after you let your kids blow bubbles with store bought solution.
Smells sweet-- roasted malts, chocolate malts, a touch of caramel, sugary sweetness, and sweet oats.
The taste is just as to be expected with all the notes of the nose.

The body feels a hair thin, but not hurting too much. Good carbonation.

Overall-- this is quite nice, but my opinion of it has changed a little for the worse since my bottle review. Maybe there is a batch variation... Maybe my palate has changed. In either case, I likethis beer, but not as much as I thought I did.

had this on-tap a 3 Floyds on sunday afternoon. Reviewed from notes.

bartender poured beer into tulip glass.

Appearance: dark black bodied beer with a creamy brown head. Sticky lace noted on tulip glass.

Smell: Roasty and malty. Coffee and some dark chocolates or bakers cocoa.

Taste: Deep and roasty malt profile thats just awesome! Coffee and some sweetness imparted from both malts and lactose. Mild oaty taste too. Really tasty!

Mouthfeel: Thick and velvety. Higher end of medium bodied beer with low carbonation.

Overall: fantastic milk stout by 3F! Yum

Had fresh from the tap at the Brewpub. Poured into a Tulip glass.

A: Very rich dark dark brown in color w/ a mocha colored head, very nice looking stout. Very pleasing to the eye in the tulip.

S: Smells very strongly of coffee, chocolate and heavily roasted malts. You can smell the sweetness in there and I can't get COFFEE out of my mind when smelling this, espresso to be exact. Very high quality smell.

T: One of the best stouts I've ever had on tap. It was very tasty and incredibly complex for me. I got roasted malts, espresso, mocha, milk chocolate, caramel, and a little hint of hoppiness that balanced everything out. Nice sweetness that stays with you after each sip, makes this a delight to drink and would never get old.

M: HAs some carbonation in there, little more so than most milk stouts, but I tend to prefer this. It makes it more drinkable, and for ME it gives it a creamier fuller mouthfeel. Love it, great concept.

Overall I will be drinking this almost religiously when I'm in a mood for a sweet stout, or a stout in general. I have a few 22oz bombers that I will be sampling in the near future when not drinking it fresh on tap. Great offering from FFF.

T- Hard to believe this is beer. It's sweet tasty goodness. Some coffee, but really this is all about the sweet milky taste.

M- medium bodied. carbonation lends itself to the reminder of beer.

O-awesome stuff. will drink it again. but maybe the tap is what made it so awesome.

Incredibly smooth, no hint of burnt malts to speak of, just a very easy drinking but still very substantial stout. Great stuff.

Notes from the FFF brewpub on 9/23/10 rocking out to some butt rock.

Poured into a tulip glass, all I am seeing is a black two finger head brew. The lacing is great evidence from the receding head sticking to the flared neck of the tulip.

Sweet malts and some chocolate exist in the scent alongside a twinge of grass hops and nuts.

The sip is mild to start with sweet chocolate malts carrying into a good dose of milk chocolate. There is a bit of oatmeal stout like presence amidst the lactose smoothness. The aftertaste is mildly sweet with just a touch of bitterness that is hardly noticeable. This is well balanced and solid.

Medium in the mouth which doesn't quite match the 8% billing. The lactose adds to the silkiness and adds to the remarkably clean aftertaste.

This is very drinkable for 8%, a very solid milk stout!

*Based on tasting notes from 07 Aug 09 vist to the brew pub.*

The beer was presented in an imperial pint. The beer was a dark, deep brown, bordering on black, with a finger's worth of tan foam that didn't hang out very long.
The nose on this beer was sweet, with malts predominating, some chocolate and milkiness, and a touch of roast at the end. The malt is the star here. Not much in the way of hops to me.
Taste is malt forward with an initial rush of milk chocolate sweetness and oh so good. I love the creaminess that the lactose and oats give to this brew.
Drinkability is good. This would be a regular purchase of mine if it were readily available.
Another excellent offering from Three Floyds.

Shared with the wife while bellied up to the bar at the Three Floyd's brewpub, watching bad silent Japanese movies projected on the wall.

Dark. Smelt of lactose & malt & chocolate.

I have to admit not being wild about people tossing lactose into my beer, but this was less sweet than most of the genre. Chocolate was predominant, with bits of coffee, roasted malt, then came the sweetness that was instantly parlayed into submission by a handful of hoppiness scattered at the end. Maybe that's the magic?

Smooth & easy-drinking, a very good beer in a style that isn't one of my favorites. Very nice.

Appearance: There is no more beautiful beer to look at then a stout in which the bubbles cascade down like like rows of psychedelic curtains. Amen.

Smell: Just wasn't there I had a cold but I'm still being generous, I don't think it was there.

Taste: Fantastic, light chocolate balanced out with a dry dark malt starch, and just the faintest touch of an RIS type fig thing going on, with a dry finish. Very well balanced.

Mouthfeel: Truly rich and creamy.

Drinkability: Dastardly good, very drinkable at 7% abv.

This is probably the best milk stout I have ever had. In fact, I was not a fan of milk stouts until I had the Moloko Plus. It starts with a great creamy taste that coats your mouth and makes you feel warm inside.

What this beer has that most other milk stouts don't have is a strong finish. It's not watery at all, so the nice creamy taste you get up front lasts throughout the aftertaste and you not left hanging.

Overall, great malt character and excellent finish.

On a sad note, I believe this beer is replacing the Alpha Kong, which was one of my favorite beers, despite the price. The Moloko had big shoes to fill, and although it did not fill them, it is still a respectable effort.

Had this from the brewery. Wow what a great treat. I really enjoyed this brew! It had a sweetness thats not often found in bottled milk stouts. I really liked the cocoa, mild coffee and malts. MMM!

I will get this as often as I can! I love it.

Overall, a great milk stout to get. I wonder if the bottles even compare?

On-tap at the brewpub, this milk stout pours black with some small ruby highlight and a thick milky head. Nice lace.

The aroma has some dim cocoa initially and some nice creamy mocha. An earthy bitter character in the nose.

The flavor is much more complex than many milk stouts I've had. Mild and creamy with a distinct thickness of roasted malt. A nice nuttiness, some earthy cocoa, and light coffee. Again one of the most flavorful examples of the style that I've had.

Big creamy mouthfeel with a thickness on the palate that is very appetizing and decadent. Low carbonation creates some of the heaviness. Really pleasing.

A very dark opaque brown color with a small fleating tan head and some lacing. Smells somewhat of roasted nuts and smoke but mostly it was lactose and half & half that I got. Taste went the same way. A bit of a smokyness to it and a nutty base but it was just so strong in the lactose. Quite sweet, too sweet really. And I agree with Hobo, lots of vanilla seemed to be in here. Reminiscent of Mackeson but not quite as good from what I remember of Mackeson. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this and I would love to try it again. This was a Milk Stout to the extreme and I credit the brewers but I don't know if doing some styles to the extreme always works.

Brought to me in a imperial pint glass. A decent sized brown head goes well with an almost oily liquid that is MOLOKO. With the right
color sceme of black with a few sienna highlights (thanks Crayola).
Smell was a dry, milky, vannilin zucker. Flavor was a good dry cream, but no acidity. Something I've unfavorably noticed in some cream stouts. Very smooth roasted malts silky swimming down my gullet.

Poured black, could see some red around the edges, and had a thick tan head that laced the entire way down the glass. Smelled of vanilla, my un beery friend said it smelled like a fruit rollup. Taste was of roasty malts, some coffee and I thought, an intense vanilla. The sweetness was intense in this brew, and made me a little sick to my stomach. As good as I thought it was, I do not know if I can ever have another one again.

On tap at the brewery. Milk chocolate and espresso aroma. Pitch black with fine brown head. Tastes like a chocolate malt. Very full bodied and sticky. Reminds me of a Irish Car Bomb. If you are not familiar, get a pint of stout, and drop a shot of Irish Cream in it, the chug. The difference is that I didn’t chug this, and it was much more enjoyable.
