This pours a cloudy golden color with a thin ring of foam atop it.
The aroma has a defined tang with hints of pineapple—or pineapple Juicy Fruit candy, more accurately—that come across when nosed.
The flavor sparkles with an expected tang just to the side of sour, with more pronounced fruit candy notes. I get some pineapple and orange and a predominant lemon candy flavor.
Lightly bodied with a pleasing effervescence and a quick finish.

Pale straw colour with fair cloud. White head, mild lace left behind. Steady bead. Good.
Funky nose; organic and quite saisony really, with a touch of lemon pith, grapefruit and melon. Pleasant; could use a ramp up on the tart factor.
Citric upfront on the palate; notes of pith, some grapefruit and kiwi. Yeasty midway with a slight funk - organic and slightly grassy. Clean, pleasant and fairly lemony. Nice.
Bit of pull and sizzle. Not really puckering, it's quite nice and smooth for what it is.
Clean and tart but not over the top. Nice Berliner Weiss.

650ml bomber purchased from Slowbeer in Melbourne. The bottle recommends two ways of serving it, one straight, and one "mit Schuss". I thought I'd give both a try, although I have no woodruff, so made do with grenadine. Scores and the bulk of the review are for the unadulterated version.
Pours a rather clear pale golden yellow, with a fizzing head of white that froths for a while, and then settles down to almost nothing. Body is clear and light, and rather thin, which is not unreasonable or unpleasant for the style. Overall, decent look to it.
Nose is clear and crisp, with a tart apple fragrance and a touch of woodiness. There's a slight sweetness too, perhaps a suggestion of vanilla, and a grainy slightly true German depth, which lends some savouriness. Not bad.
Taste is what you expect. Clear and crisp, with a mild tartness and a pinch of salt towards the back palate. Slight leafy note on the front, crushed vegetation or green tea perhaps. Mostly, it's just light, crisp and refreshing. Solid stuff.
Feel is slightly biting, but light and slightly effervescent.
"Mit Schuss", the syrup actually really blanks a good deal of the acidity and freshness, even though it doesn't add a lot itself. It's more that it smooths the edges, and probably makes it more approachable overall: I much prefer this particular BW on its own, although I've enjoyed a woodruff-spiked concoction in the past.
Overall, solid stuff. This is fairly middle-of-the road for the style, and it's not a style that I've ever been hugely enamoured of, so it's certainly not a wowing experience, but it's decent, drinkable, and very refreshing on a hot day.

Pours gold with a small, quickly fading head.
Restrained nose. Some soft wheat and faint lemon hints along with a bit of cooked corn. Very faint.
Flavours show an in initial sweetness and some cooked vegtable characters followed by a mild tartness hinting at lemons to slightly redeem things.
Body feels watery.

Thanks to SamuelJackson45 for sharing this brew with me. Poured from a bomber into a snifter. The brew appears a hazed yellow color with white froth that fades to a thin film across the top. Some white spots of lace stick to the wall of the glass.
The smell is lactic and indicates notes of greek yogurt. Some lemony citrus aspect brightens things up before being contrasted by cheesy aspects. Some footy grain like pilsner and wheat is present. I enjoyed the residual character of fresh grain and funk in the nose but it lacked that cleanliness I look for in the style.
The taste is tart like a combination of wheat and lemony lacto. Some flavors of yogurt evolve mid-palate with some pilsner footy grain aspect and a hint of something like corn mixed with wheat. The flavor in combination with the funk of the aroma screams sour mashing as it has that distinct character of funk and lack of cleanliness. It is very grainy with mild stinky cheese that hangs in the mouth.
This is a medium to lighter bodied berliner with a modest amount of carbonation. It is easy drinking, light and refreshing with no alcohol impact. Its a pretty nice take on the style but lacks that cleanliness I look for. As it gets warmer, the funk gets progressively more intense which gets to be unique with the residual sweetness of the grain. Worth a try if its available to you.

Been seeing this one along with the others offered up by Heretic Brewing for a while now and finally pulled the trigger on this one. Picked up a 22oz bomber from Baron's Market in Point Loma for $6. and poured it into a Georg Schneider's Wiesen Edel-Weisse branded glass.
A: Pours a pale straw-like hue that is unfiltered with a decent head that dissipates a bit too quickly with no lacing what so ever - I know this style rarely has either but a little more of both would be nice.
S: Dried grass, sweet crackery malt, light lemon zest, and light barnyard funk - i wish the lemon and funk were cranked up a bit more, but still nice that they're even there.
T: Taste is on point - classic Berliner Weiss flavors like bitter acidic lemon zest, dry crackery malt (saltine crackers), white grapes - almost like a dry Sauv Blanc. Extremely refreshing and enjoyable. If you are familiar with Sour Wench (brewed by Ballast Point) - this one is reminiscent without the fresh berry element obviously.
M: Light, crisp and dry. Good carbonation for the style.
Damn fine for the style being represented here with the bitterness cranked up which I am a huge fan of - actually much better than what a lot of breweries are labeling as a "sour ale" or "wild ale" these days - this one accomplishes both while staying true to one of the oldest styles in existence. Thumbs up!

1556th Review on BA
Bottle to Pinot glass
22oz
No bottle date
Purchased from El Cerrito Liquor
App- Well the color is more of a peach color minus the pinks. A good and semi long lasting white 2 finger head was there. Not really a clingy beer. Just looks really nice in the glass.
Smell- Its a tri-smelling beer. I mean, its lime a Berliner but just has an aroma I couldnt place. Citrus? Soap? Earthy? Just all over without that normal lactic punch.
Taste- I wanted to find some diamond in the rough. I didnt. Its a small shell of a berliner. More malty and lactic and even throws some bitter in there. Some of the soap flavors comes across as well.
Mouth- A semi light medium body with a medium carbonation. A bit thicker than I was thinking. Some semi off flavors. Sweet, earthy and soapy.
Drink- Welp! Wanted to like it more, just didnt. Seemed off to me. Noticing that heretic is a bit hit/miss.

A - Pours a hazy golden-yellow with a thin layer of frothy white head. The head fades very quickly leaving behind very little lace.
S - Aroma is a mix of sweet wheat with sour and tart green apple and other green fruits, lemon zest, funk, and lightly acidic notes.
T - Starts off with a mix of tart and sour green apple, grape, and other green fruits, sweet wheat, and lemon zest. Through the middle, some more sourness and tartness come through with some farmhouse funk and some acidity. The finish is a mix of sweet wheat with some tart, sour, and funky notes, green apple, and some lemon zest.
M - Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a tart, sour, and lightly funky finish.
D - Very drinkable. Good overall balance of flavors with good sourness and tartness throughout.

A: Pours a hazy pale straw yellow with an initial 1/2" white head which fades to the rim leaving some spotty lace.
N: Lemony with grainy wheat, a bit of tartness, dry hay, and a metallic note.
T: Kinda thin and watery lemon flavors with some faint tart, minerality, trace pepper and white grape notes. The metallic thing is still there.
M: Light body and carbonation, although some mild prickly from the barely tart wheat.
O: Wanted to like this but was a little disappointed. Second half of bottle better than first due to some floaties, more haze and tartness/lemony acidic character.

22 oz. bomber poured into a wine glass. Shows a hazy goldenrod with a firm wheat haze. A thin cap of whitish foam is a bit short lived.
Nose of slightly sour wheat leaves a bit to be desired. Aroma is light as to be expected but comes up a bit short as for a tart punch.
Fkavor follows. Quite light and neutral with a bit of neutral grain and a bit of lemon. Offers a subtle tartness but subtle is the the key word there. Quite simple and subtle and lacking the tart bite I was expecting/hopiing for as for style.
Bottom line a fairly well done take on the style, and I say that with reservation, yet offers little as for redeeming qualities. And at a price to make one wonder.
In the end...one and done....

Cloudy pale straw colour with no head. Some sediment. Fair.
Very light tart aroma. Quite earthy. Uninteresting and lacking the punch of true Berliner Weisse.
Slightly tart with some nice wheat notes. Nothing over the top. Quite earthy and almost a little enteric.
Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Fine.
An okay take on the Berliner Weisse. I fail to see this as a real example of the style but it isn't a bad thing - just average.

On tap at Congregation Ale House in Long Beach, CA.
Pours a murky yellow with a foamy bone colored head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour and tart with some grain, fruit, and sour candy aromas. Taste is much the same with a very grainy aftertaste. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is drinkable but not a very good example of the style in my opinion.

On-tap at Beachwood I,
A: Pours a pale hazy goldenrod with a medium white head, soft lace.
S: Some sweeter Meyer lemon, lactic acid and wheat malt, standard for the style.
T: Lemony lactic acid flavour, a hint of wheaty complexity. Clearly a Berliner Weisse, good flavour, but not really doing much else.
M: Light-bodied, crisp, tart and creamy, real nice here.
O: A by the books Berliner, it is to style, but doesn't really offer anything on top of that. Refreshing in the summertime.
