The best place on earth for a BA, all things considered. I've been a patron since they had a small collection of barstools and 5 taps, and I've yet to find a more chill place with comparable prices. However, the absolute best thing about either Beachwood location is their passion and attention to detail. You are guaranteed to have your beer served in the correct glass per the style, served at the correct temperature, and served through clean lines 100% of the time. Oh, and they made GABF gold medal winning beer too. Literally, what else could you possibly ask for? Well, Gabe and Lena are quite possibly the nicest and most sincere people on earth. Heaven I tell you...

Both Beachwood's are excellent places. This one (in Long Beach) is the 2nd location, and also a brewery that makes great, clean beers. All of the hoppy beers are similar to one-another (pretty much just varying in the hop profile and ABV), which isn't a bad thing considering they're all dry, aromatic, and very light on the malt profile. Julian's a classic "West Coast" style IPA brewer. The cleanness of the beers carries through with all styles, which is why I'm less of a fan of their Belgian style beers. The stouts are great, with a nice malt character.
Like the Seal Beach Beachwood, the guest beers are a big focus here. I can't remember the exact number off-hand, but they have about 24 guest beers, most of which are fairly small production beers that beer geeks are looking for. I've been to beer bars all around the country, and this truly is one of the top 3-5 that I have been to.
If I would be allowed to make just a few minor constructive criticisms: The funky and sour selection isn't quite what it used to be in years past (or at least what it was in the Seal Beach location in years past). I believe the owner is now hoarding most good sours for the biennial sour fest at the Seal Beach location. The guest tap list doesn't always reflect the season (e.g., several barrel-aged stouts during warmer months, while only having 1 saison and 1 session beer). Lastly, for the love of God, bring back the mushroom stew!

Let me first preface this review by saying I love craft beer, have been going to this place since it opened, and it is five minutes from my house, so I am biased.
Clean crisp atmosphere in breezy long beach. The spot has a nice industrial feel to it but is still open and inventing.
Menu is smoked southern in theme but has a lot to offer all. The tater tots with ducks sauce is my favorite starter and the menu is awesome. From the smoke fish and chips to the wild game that is served.
Now on to the beer. Wicked. Julian puts out IPAs that are to die for, why personal preference, and the other beers, are awesome. They rotate often so there is always something new and exciting. Check the website and watch the HopCam to see what is on tap before you make the trip.
It is a must stop if you are in the area.

This is a stellar brewpub with fantastic food and award winning beer.
Beachwood specializes in BBQ - a great food type that is sorely under-represented in S. CA. Whether it's basic BBQ options (pulled pork sandwich) or something a little more unique (portabello fries), everything I've had seems to be terrific! The place is casual with a great hang out vibe that accompanies drinking beer so well - as does the food.
The brews that Beachwood crafts are award winning, so don't take my opinions of stellar/fantastic/etc as the mere ramblings of a craft brew lover who respects his local brewery. Check out the recent medals from the GABF among others to see the type of recognition Beachwood has received. While the regular styles are represented year round, Beachwood has fun with unique concoctions that rotate, so when you have a specific IPA or porter one month, a different take will follow the next. There are regulars that resurface in time so watch for and anticipate your favorites to come back.
Now, what can make their in house beer any better? To start, the distribution from keg to glass through the Flux Capacitor. It's a mind blowing level of attentiveness that should be implemented in all beer bars, everywhere. If optimum gas mixture, pressure and temperature mean nothing to you, then maybe the next advantage wets your whistle. In addition to the great offering of Beachwood beers, there is a healthy amount of guest brews that are available (though always rotating.) You'll find a number of local CA beers featured and sometimes (for example via fundraiser) you'll discover that some of the most elite releases are brought in.
To make all of this even better, there is a Happy Hour from 3-6pm that drops the price of brew and features some good food options (ie pulled pork sandwich at 1/2 price).
Being downtown, parking may be an issue... to help you out, Beachwood validates for 3 hours when you park behind the building in The Lofts parking structure (accessed via the alley off of 3rd St).

Very small crowded bar on a Saturday afternoon; tables in the second section which didn't hep my cause, just wanted beer. Ended up just posting up against the wall with my buddy, who cares really anyway.
Sampled their house ESB which was really really good and surprised me, also had something from Drakes afterward which wasn't as memorable obviously. There's about 10-12 offering which obviously rotate quite often, some in house, most guest local offerings.
The bartender/owner from what I was told, really likes to keep the beer and his lines fresh which I greatly appreciate and give bonus points for.
Prices were fair, didnt sample food. Would probably be better not on a busy Saturday afternoon to better enjoy the atmosphere but still enjoyed my visit.

Went to Beachwood BBQ a couple of times on an excursion to LA and the Long Beach area.
Place is moderately big with a patio area. Nice sized bar with a bunch of tap handles. We sat on the patio. Busy over the lunch hour, but easy to have a conversation and pretty chill. The food was good. Nothing too elaborate, but good. I had the BBQ chicken salad which was very big and filling. Definitely the highlight was the tap list, though. Aside from the house taps, they had a great selection of guest taps. Actually stopped by a couple different times, and had Pliny twice, a good cognac barrel aged stout offering from Bear Republic, and a couple other good beers besides that. Overall, would definitely recommend a stop by. Good stuff. I have the good fortune of being able to move to LB and live a few blocks from here. Will definitely be a spot I visit frequently.

Beachwood BBQ is definitely my favorite current beer destination in LA. The beer list isn't the most extensive in the area but it is definitely filled ONLY with beers that I would be happy to imbibe. The guest taps are ridiculous. Here's a sampling from this week:
RR Pliny the Elder
Port Dusk Till Dawn
Bear Republic Cognac Old Baba
+ like 8 others.
The house taps are really good too, I especially appreciated the IPAs. Melrose was great, the cask Melrose + Simcoe was sublime. SUBLIME.
To top it off the food is really down my alley. Excellent BBQ with all of the correct sides, prices were reasonable too. Especially during happy hour when you can get a full-sized sandwich + side for $5. That is unreal value.
In summary I will do whatever I can to stop at Beachwood BBQ on subsequent visits to LA.

It's worth driving to Long Beach to try the beers these guys are cooking up. The Hop Ninja was the highlight of our afternoon there but every beer brewed in house was amazing.
It's in a funny space that feels more like a malt shop than it does a bar or brewery. I like it but it's not for everyone.
The staff and beers won us all over and we got to meet the owner and brewer. He is VERY friendly and gave us more time than any of us expected.
I knew the beers would be great but I was surprised how great the food was. I can get great beer anywhere in Los Angeles these days but great Barbecue is hard to find.

Beachwood in Seal Beach has long been among the best beer bars in Southern California. When their brewery opened up a couple of years ago there were huge expectations. HUGE expectations and somehow they weren't just met, they were exceeded.
Julian is making some of the best beers anywhere. Thrillseeker IPA is about as good as any IPA I've ever tried and it is good every time (more than I can say for a lot of IPAs).
The food is unfreakingbelievable. I think the owner is the chef and there is good reason why BBQ comes before brewing in their name. And I already told you how much I love the beers.
Kind of an odd diner feel, not very bar like but it's comfy and clean. Worth the drive from LA.
