Notes:
Anaheim 1888 is based on a style of beer brewed at the original Anaheim Brewery and has a flavor that is popular with today's beer drinker. Copper-colored, full-flavored and well-hopped, Anaheim 1888 is our flagship beer.
The beer is aptly named to reflect the glory days of the original Anaheim Brewery. It was in 1888 when Friedrich Conrad, our spiritual forefather, began construction on a vast brick building on West Broadway to house the expanded brewery.
The Anaheim Gazette noted in 1890 that Conrad's beer "appears to be fully equal if not superior to the celebrated Anheuser beer of St. Louis. Besides it is a strictly Orange County product and all who are in the habit of using beer should give it a trial if only to encourage home industries."
We think you should do the same.

Sampled 7/31/2011 at the brewery. Oh yes, another steam beer, joy.
Pours dark orange, much like the "gold". Clear, very small white head, no retention, but oddly enough a nice lacing.
Aroma is lightly fruity, malty, some odd vegetable quality, and maybe some pine.
Flavor is, well, steam beer. More or less in this order: malt, bitterness, fruit, cardboard, vegetable (light), and finished with the slightest hint of bile.
Body is fairly light. Drinkable for a steam beer.

Anaheim Brewery's flagship beer, on-tap at the brewery itself. On to the beer:
This is a deep copper color, whcih is topped with a fair retaining head and good lacing that sitcks around the glass. The nose is a doughy one, with breaks of bread crust and sourdough bread. The description talks about hoppiness, but I don't get that until I taste it. Modestly hoppy flavor, riding along it is a pine note. It's doughy, has a mineraly accent. Sourdough too maybe? Only slightly sweet. It's a medium bodied beer, with a smooth body and a bite of carbonation.
For a flagship beer, 1888 can hold itself together. It's a drinkable, all seasons beer.

On tap at Anaheim Brewery in Anaheim, CA.
Pours a clear copper with a foamy beige head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Thin rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and some vegetal aromas. Taste is much the same with a herbal hop flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that drinkable but not a good example of the style.

12 oz. bottle, great to see another beer from Orange County around,
A: Pours a medium copper with a mild white head, light lace.
S: Biscuity malt, some earthy hop, not bad.
T: Has that biscuity malt with a big grassy hop component, hangs on with some floral notes, bit of white pepper.
M: Definitely feels on the thin side, doesn't have the greatest aftertaste, adequate for a Steam beer.
O: I like the throwback idea, the flavour initally was not too hot, but comes back around as I drink it. Bottle at Hi-Times, very local, a solid effort in the end.

On-tap at Anaheim Brewery
A: The pour is a light copper color, a bit of gold in there, with a white head.
S: This beer just doesn't really smell like much. There is a little bit of toffee and bread, maybe some floral hops, and a touch of yeast and fruit esters.
T: Sweet-ish malt makes up the bulk of the flavor. There is bread, toffee, and a little bit of brown sugar. Very minimal hop notes. Somewhat floral with some grass. Very little bitterness.
M: The body and carbonation are both medium.
O: Hard to say this was bad because it wasn't really offensive. It was just really...bland.
