Notes:
Anaheim Hefeweizen is a traditonal German-style wheat beer. This beer is unfiltered, giving it a hazy appearance. The yeast that remains in the beer adds flavor, body and vitamins(!) to hefeweizen. We use a special yeast to give our Hefeweizen a subtle clove aroma and a fruity hint of banana. These spicy, fruity notes blend perfectly with the cilantro, lime, and cumin used in Mexican dishes. There is nothing so refreshing as an Anaheim Hefeweizen.

On-tap at the Anaheim Brewery, on to the beer:

The color of golden wheat is what's in the glass. Decent head sits on top, retention is somewhat below average, a slight stick of lace clings to the glass. The nose is where it starts to get exciting, with a sweet banana, crisp wheat, nutmeg, and clove arrive to fuel the anticipating of tasting. Success. Its taste stats with a banana bubblegum mix, upfront with a snap of wheat. The yeast adds a ground clove aspect, which livens up the beer. THe beer is nearly medium bodied, with a sot snap of carbonation.

If this is Anaheim Brewery's way to pay respects towards the city's original German inhabitants, then they've done well. An uplifting hefeweizen that can refresh any ethnic background.

On tap at Anaheim Brewery in Anaheim, CA.

Pours a hazy yellow with a foamy white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, banana, and spices. Taste is much the same with a slightly chalky flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is light and refreshing.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a semi-hazy dark gold with a small white head. Solid retention, no lace.

S: This is like the tropics meets Germany. There's a lot of passion fruit in this. Banana Now and Laters make their presence felt. Some bubblegum. There's a definite Candyland appeal to this, but it certainly is fun.

T: Spicy yeasty bread with a lot of clove. The flavour really does a 180 from the nose. Nice bready malt flavour, but disappointing with the promise of the nose.

M: Light-bodied, the beer is thin, there's no getting away from that. Crisp, clean, could be refreshing on a hot day.

O: There's a lot of upside to this beer, the nose is particularly striking, but nothing about the taste to really make me go wow. I enjoyed the bottle; it's an interesting wheat beer for the Southland.

Served in a tasting glass.

Pours a bright golden hue. Only slightly hazy. Nice lacing and retention.

Typical cloves and banana fragrance and taste. Mouthfeel is spot on as well. Nice spicey wheat element too.

Grainy textured mouthfeel.

Pretty spot on for the style. If I were big on hefeweizens I'd definitely seek this out.

On-tap at Anaheim Brewery

A: The pour is a cloudy golden straw color with a small white head.

S: Thank goodness. A big banana aroma is the first thing I smell. Not surprisingly, however, a light lemon note follows (can't win 'em all). Some light bread and clove with a hint of bubblegum to round it out.

T: The bulk of the flavor is in the form of bready malts and wheat. A fair amount of banana and there is a significant sweetness to the beer. On the back end, light citrus/lemon notes.

M: The body is medium and there is medium carbonation.

O: Certainly not the best hefeweizen out there, but it's their best beer.

Sampled 7/31/2011 at the brewery.

Pours moderately hazy yellow with a decent amount of white head, lacing, and retention.

Aroma is mostly banana and lemons but also a bit of clove and some other undetermined spices.

Flavor is half way between a proper hefe and an American Pale Garbage Ale (aka APWA). The banana, clove, and somewhat medium body indicate German Hefe(n)weizen but the lemon tartness screams America Beer. Still pretty good though.

Body is just under medium. Drinkable for sure. Best of the house beers so far.

Beer review #666, would have picked something like The Beast to review if it needed to be added to the database here, or if I cared. Metal.
