served on-tap @ Alcove, Tuscaloosa, AL, into a mason jar
Pours a somewhat cloudy shade of mustard yellow. Absolutely no head to speak of on this beer. None. Maybe that's just the bartender's doing, so I'm keeping the score neutral here.
Streetcar brings solid Kolsch aromas to the plate. You've got your pleasant maltiness, your fragrant apple, your sugary-sweet yeast characteristics (not quite the bubblegum of German wheat ales, but close). The flavors are even better than the aromas: enough hop/yeast astringency to balance out the juicy apple and sweet, doughy grain flavors.
This is a solid, refreshing Kolsch. I'm glad it's an Alabama beer, because it's a great choice for these humid summers.

A nice, crisp kolsch. Exactly as it should be. This can both compete with the Bud Lights of the world, and be enjoyed as a craft beer on its own terms.
Appearance: light, translucent.
Smell: fruity, crisp.
Taste: light hops, not much malt, ideal for a summer or mid-afternoon watching football.
Mouthfeel: rather carbonated.
Overall: thoroughly enjoyable. I'd be happy to have it anytime, and I think it would be a wonderful introductory beer for those trying out craft beer in the area. I took relatives to the avondale brewpub recently, and they not only enjoyed it, but also would go back and order it themselves. Bravo, Avondale.
