On tap at Perennial.

Pours a dark, dark black, some visible carbonation. 1/2 finger head, really, really dark tan. Pretty good lacing.

Smell is excellent. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, bit of vanilla, hint of coffee roast, some coconut, maybe a hint of spice. Like a mounds bar, only good. Really good.

Taste is pretty much like the smell, though a bit less sweet and a bit more roast. Still, you get a lot of really interesting flavors that mix together really well, creating a delicious chocolate experience.

Mouthfeel is easily the best part of this beer. Wonderfully rich and smooth, it's very creamy and full-bodied. Coats the mouth really well. It's described as being like silk, and honestly that's about right.

Perennial shows once again that they're making the best beer in St. Louis, hands down. If you find yourself at the brewery, make sure to get a pour of this. If you've got a bottle, don't drink it: send it my way.

Glass: Dogfish Head Signature Glass.

Appearance: Mostly opaque black with the tiniest amount of reddish-brown showing through around the edges when held up to the light. An aggressive pour produced less than half a finger of khaki head that dissipated very quickly.

Smell: Roasted malts, a tiny bit of milk chocolate, perhaps a bit of the mentioned coconut. Not getting much of the lactose / metallic smell found in other milk stouts. Smells slightly sweet and delicious.

Taste: I didn't think the coconut would come through too much based on the smell, but it is definitely found in the taste! That unique nutty sweetness can lies on the back of my tongue during the entire sip, however, I find it a bit overpowering.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with low-medium carbonation.

Overall: I prefer my milk stouts to have a definite roasted chocolaty bitterness to offset the sweet milkiness. This one is just a bit weird with the coconut flavor and milk stout sweetness working together. The flavor profiles of these two ingredients are too similar, and create a beer that is just a bit too sweet for me. I rank this between good and outstanding ... it's certainly not a bad beer, but I am definitely disappointed given the price and expectations that I had for it.

Thanks for all the great beers rodkin!

Appearance. Pours a thick, deep dark brown with a thin, dark tan head.

Smell. Sweet chocolate and coffee, lactose ...does lactose have a smell? Hmm. Well, it's that slightly sour lactic smell that's similar in most milk stouts. Some sweet fresh coconut as well.

Taste. Sweet coconut (but that nice fresh taste as well, not like the sweet dried stuff), light coffee and chocolate, and a little bit of unroasted almond.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body, slightly syrupy, lowish carbonation.

Overall. A very nice beer, great for after dinner which is when I happen to be drinking this. I'm afraid it doesn't hold a candle to Three Hour Tour, which is what I was hoping for, but good stuff nonetheless.

On tap at Grinders in KC.
A- Dark brown, not quite black with a persistent 1.5 finger khaki head. Lacing is no slouch either.

S- Nose is sweet as can be. Notes of coconut, molasses, caramelized sugars. Some earthy/woodsy character also comes through.

T- Taste follows nose with the big sweetness to get things started. Some diacetyl and alcohol present. Lactose and dextrose. Some wood and vanilla character also makes its way. Yeast present. Sweetness borders on cloying without going overboard.

M- Not a real thick, heavy stout. Understandable that it's available in June. Very easy drinkability because of it. Low body. Good carbonation. Not dry at all. Alcohol present as expected at 8.8

O- a very interesting beer unlike any that I have had before. It took me a minute to warm up to the flavor profile, but it seems to work. A sugary sweet stout. Not one I would have often, but one I would recommend trying due to the uniqueness of it. I could really see a coconut lover enjoying this one.

A - Stellar pour; dark milk chocolate explodes up the sides of the glass, then inverts on itself forming a coffee colored twister in the center of the head. Once the fireworks are over though, what's left hangs around with ok retention and poor lace. Almost a solid black body with thin caramel colored highlights.

S - Great nose. Dry cocoa, dark toasted grains, espresso, ash, light booze, with a soft well balanced sweetness of toasted coconut and honey.

T - Honey, caramel, flat chocolate soda, brazil nut, cinnamon, pumpernickel. The backend fades outs into a oddly sour note.

M - Smooth with a medium frame. Strong acidity. Dry finish leaves a nice coating on your mouth.

O - Sweet to style with a nice mouthfeel on the finish. The sour edge is the only thing that hurts the brew.

Pours a black color. 1/4 inch head of a tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of sweet malt, roasted malt, alcohol, oatmeal, hint of yeast, and chocolate. Fits the style of a Milk / Sweet Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and creamy, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, chocolate, roasted malt, alcohol, oatmeal, and a hint of yeast. Overall, a rich, sweet, thick, and complex beer. Good appearance, aroma, feel, body, and blend.
