This was the place I had in mind when I came to New Braunfels… Beautifully restored old building that glows in the setting sun. I feel like the room should be filled with cigar smoke, the beer should come served in dusty glasses and whiskey shots should be lined up for wayfaring travelers. This place just extrudes character. There’s maybe 30 taps and half of them are Texas brews. The food I had was great. Felt like a steal—my tab for a full meal and a pint was under $15 and that includes a decent tip.

Vegan chili, delicious cornbread, live Americana music, tap handles from (512), Real Ale, Live Oak, Ranger Creek… Sign me up. I’ll come back out for this place.

(P.S. And if you’re from the Phoenix and reading this, I really didn’t mean to be that guy who leaves his newspaper on the table for someone else to pick it up. I plain forgot about it and didn’t snap to it until long after I left. Sorry.)

The Phoenix Saloon is not only a historic place that goes back many years but it is one hell of a place to go hang out, drink a great pint or two and listen to real local live music with friends and family. They have great beer selection with some Texas craft beers on tap from Live Oak, 512, and Real Ale to name a few of them. Beer is always fresh and served with a smile. The food is not bad either. I would highly recomend getting a chili dog they are amazing and you must try the chili, it was practically the birth place of chili. Great atmoshpere, good people, good music, and just an all around good time.
