Poured from a can into a pint glass.
Appearance; Pours a big off-white head on a translucent dark caramel body.
Smell: Oddly grassy, with caramel, toffee, and nuts.
Taste: Slightly astringent toasty flavor finishes with nuts. Malty but not very sweet. Alcohol hidden. It does have a bit more punch to the flavor intensity than a typical brown ale, making the "imperial" moniker appropriate.
Feel: Pretty light bodied. Finishes fairly dry.

Unassuming aroma, slightly nutty, some toasted malts. Taste is a winner, with a strong malt backbone, moderate sweetness, balancing bitterness and deceptive alcohol strength. Mouthfeel holds it all together as the pecans become more prominent in the aftertaste.

Draft at City Tap House. Almost see-through brown, filmy head. Aroma is toasty malts, light coffee. Taste brings in some sweetness, a roasty bite, a d a lingering bitterness. Nice weight, smooth, silky.

Welcome back to my New DelMarVa (+ DC) Beer Sunday (Week 778)! I explained today's impetus in a previous entry ( https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25696/343273/?ba=woodychandler#review ), but this CANtinued brewery horizontal is finishing up with either Key or DuClaw on deck. Long live The CANQuest (tm)! My thanks again go out to @tone77 for dropping this one off for me. Interestingly, he reviewed it on my 53rd birthday!
From the CAN: "Imperial Brown Ale brewed with PeCANs"; "Frankly My Beer"; "Made In DC".
Hoo hah! I was once again surprised during the Crack! of the vent as I got a light spritz across my fingertips due to a brimful craft CAN! I rejoiced, brothers & sisters, rejoiced, I say! I followed up with a steady, solid C-Line Glug of this bounteous, beauteous CAN & most of its CANtents, always leaving a tithe for later. Its foaming was a revelation, beCANming just over a finger of dense, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with modest retention. I gazed lovingly, brothers & sisters, yea, lovingly into its beauteousness. Therein I saw naught but Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34), allowing my gaze to wander as far and as wide as that great state of Nebraska, where someone was reading the Sunday comics & I could, too! Hallejujah! Praise Belle! I brought this beauty up to my nose so that I might partake of its wondrous perfume. I was met with a sweet nuttiness, brothers & sisters. Yes, the same kind of sweet nuttiness that has led me to the pulpit today! It was of nothing for me to partake openly of sweet nuttiness until the scales finally fell from mine eyes & I saw the way of the CAN! This brought back such memories, I tell you. Memories of sweet chocolate being melted on the stovetop while we harvested peCANs from the nearby trees. Mmm. Mouthfeel was as soft as a lover's gentle kiss upon rousing from a deep sleep. Oh, yes, brothers & sisters, I know well the pleasures of the flesh! The taste was a CANbination of pecan brown bread and chocolate frosting. Oh my. That reminds me to ask you to bring an offering to next week's bake sale, brothers & sisters. I look forward to gazing upon a scrumptious array of desserts! As I finish today's serCAN, I remind you, all of you, to go forth and seek the way of the CAN. Hallelujah! May The CANQuest (tm) CANtinue well after my semi-sweet finish & long into the future. Brothers & sisters, it has been my pleasure to host you today!

Great fall beer. Found a six pack in Delaware and decided to give it a try. Nice value for a quality brown ale. Malty ale smell but nice nutty taste. Easy to drink. Alcohol not present. Similar to Dogfish Head Nut Brown ale. Like the cans and love the beer.

Not much of a smell. First taste was toffee. After taste stuck which was enjoyable.

I had high hopes for this, with the slick packaging and the high abv. I was hoping it would at least be interesting since I usually find brown ale somewhat dull. Kind of a lifeless cola look. Nose is caramel and toffee.
Flavor is that brown malt with notes of chocolate and nuts. It does hide the alcohol well but is still fairly unexciting. The carbonation level is about right and the aftertaste makes an effort, but not enough to make this better than a decent brown.

On tap at 3 Stars in D.C.
Pours a dark brownish orange with fine, tan head.
Smell is roasty with notes of coffee, nuts and dark chocolate.
Taste is rich and nutty with plenty of coffee to wake you up. Some notes of chocolate and a nice, mellow bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.
Overall, really nice imperial brown, really nice winter drink.
