A: Starts with a small, off-white head on a clear and bright amber colored beer. The head fades fast and only leaves a hint of lace.

S: Aromas feature some spicy rye up front, plus a slight sweetness of pale malts. Other smells include a pepper character and faint lemon/citrus notes.

T: The taste has a nice bite of spicy rye grain and a moderate hop bitterness to play against the malts. The malts and hops are balanced and help showcase the rye bill.

M: Body is medium, with carbonation between low and moderate. The finish is of rye, pepper and earthy hops and is neither sweet nor dry.

O: On the Jackalope website, they say this is their brewery's session beer. I think it succeeds in this role, being a simple but tasty beer that's not too high in ABV and featuring a good balance.

Growler of Rompo pours a dark orange with a small 1-finger off-tan head. Reduces quickly leaving a minimal ring of lace.

The nose is heavy on the rye malt- showing a more pure breadiness with fruity tones of buttery apples, white raisin, faint cinnamon, light brown sugar, plum. The parallels to rye whiskey are awesome in this.

The medium bodied palate is caramelly sweet up front with a mild bitterness that ushers in the rye maltiness- drying and spicy with lots of fruity tones. Ends really juicy and mouthwatering with a clipped dryness and some lingering bitterness in the center of the tongue.

A great effort and another example that heightens my appreciation of rye beers. The grain's dry, fruity and spicy character makes for a wonderful sessionable brew with loads of flavor and an interesting mouthfeel.

Growler fill @ FMcD's,

Pours cloudy reddish brown. Hazy, finger thick light tan head. Bubbly but dissipates quickly.

Smells malty, spicy, and peppery. Hints of dried fruit, cherry syrup, and toasted bread.

Starts off a little too sweet. Nice peppery rye backbone with solid matinees and a hint of hops. Hints of fruit, black cherry, and raspberry. Not bad.

Low carbonation, thin and slick, a little syrupy.

Overall a little bland and underwhelming to me. Too sweet, would have preferred more peppery rye and spicy hop balance.
