Preibe Porter
on tap
at munchen haus
16 oz pint glass
Apearance
rich foamy head, espresso colored white that wanes with time
dark, opaque, deep red umber color.
Smell
coffee and roasted malt, dry hops
Taste
light roasted coffee, dry roasted malt, hops and burnt toast at finish
Mouthfeel
tingling, round and semi dry finish
Balance- toasted malt and hop forward, not much sugar going on or alcohol warming.
Overall- dry, crisp and toasted porter, clean and roasty with drying hop finish. Never sweet or slick this refreshing porter shows off delicate roasty notes and espresso.

Had at Icicle Brewing Co. in Leavenworth, WA. Nice dark chocolate brown with a creamy tan head. Smell of dark chocolate and espresso. Smooth body leads to roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavors. Ends with a subtle sourness at finish. Hard to explain. Not sure if it was intended or not. Pretty average bitterness. This is a solid porter though not a game changer.

On tap at the brewery. Poured to a standard pint glass (notes from 8/14/11):
A - Poured transparent dark brown/black. Barely any head, but what was there was composed of small bubbles. Tiny specks of lacing left on the glass. Shines middle-of-the-road brown when held up to the light.
S - Non-burnt but toasty dark malt, easing into a hint of molasses, shot completely through by medium-roast coffee and a hint of orange citrus at the end.
T - Coffee and molasses to start, with a hint of dark chocolate, then a tiny flash of vinegary sour, followed by a mild smokiness, and finishing with a mild earthy bitterness, light toastiness, and sweet molasses.
M - Medium body, not as heavy as one would expect, slightly creamy, with tingly moderate carbonation at the front of the tongue, and a slightly dry finish.
D - Very good toasty mild coffee porter. very drinkable, with an inoffensive bitterness. A mild intensity of flavors, but complex nonetheless. I didn;t pick as much chocolate in the flavor as advertised in the brewery's literature, but I enjoyed the pervasive moderate toastiness.
I went to Icicle excited about trying the Kolsch, Lager and Wheat. I came away feeling like this Porter is their best offering. Still it's not mind-blowingly fancy; just a very solid middle-of-the-road porter.
