Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial IPA |  9.20% ABV

Availability: Rotating. bottle (27), can (22), on-tap (14), growler (10), cask (1), nitro-bottle (1)

Notes:
OTWOA is a single hop beer utilizing Falconers Flight. Brewed with just enough Pale malt, Cara-60, CaraPils and Malted wheat to carry the intense hop character onto the pallet.

At first glance, it has an orange hue in the glass with a viscus, rocky head that refuses to dissipate. Upon first sniff there are dominate aromas of citrus, white grapes and grapefruit with light bread and biscut notes. After the first sip we taste a mellow bitterness that only grows as more is consumed. Moderately carbonated, deceptively smooth, refreshingly dry and extremely heady for a beer at 9.2% ABV.

OTWOA exhibits all the necessary traits to be revered as a world class Imperial IPA.

12 oz. bottle purchased at the brewery for the release earlier this month, canned on 5/1/13, poured into my FFF Teku glass and drank over ~30 minutes.

A: 5 - golden coloration, strong hop haze (couldn't read through it), initially thick, rocky head with large suds (some still clinging to the top of the glass) that subdues into 1/4 finger glass lacing, moderare alcohol legs on swirling that reagitates the carbonation

S: 4.75 - when I first cracked a can several days only two days after canning, the hop aroma was enormous; although it's been refrigerated, that huge hop aroma has dissipated, but all the initial qualities are still there - lots of pine needle, herbal spice, lemon rind, etc.; awesome smelling beer!

T: 5 - again, when I first tasted this only a few days after canning, it tasted like liquid hops to me - huge resinous, dank flavors that resolves into a spiciness on the back end; as it has settled in, it's also become more balanced; there is a moderate bitterness on the front of the tongue that continues into a complex hop character with lots of pine needles and spice; as it continues, the malt character becomes more assertive - cracker and biscuity qualities balance this one out; again, an awesome well-balanced flavor palate

M: 5 - big but not overly boozy, chewy, complex, moderate alcohol notes; perfect mouthfeel for style

O: 5 - I've had all the rest of the world-class imperial IPAs, and, when fresh, I'd put this one up there with any of them; the complexity of Falconer's Flight really shines though with many different flavors from the different hop varietals (Simcoe, Sorachi Ace, etc.); the distribution is unfortunately limited at present, but I count myself exceptionally lucky to now have some an amazing brew released quarterly in my backyard; if you're in the greater D.C. area, it's worth the wait, and, if you're not, it's absolutely worth the trade

Poured into a frosted shaker pint glass and tasted over the course of 25 extraordinary minutes.
Thick lumps of creamy cloud stood deep and long on the even pulp cidered peach haze. Lacy smoke tethers the piney pulp to a warming vessel as it drains.
Grapefruit, evergreen, chestnuts, and buttered biscuits make for a holiday of aromas that only disappoint by failing to linger longer.
Ethanol leads the way through the nose and bubbles across the lips into an evolving balance of flavors that bind intensity to a structure of toast and tin. Forward hops flow into sweet eggy dough and flatten out first into peppered smoke and later into polished stone. Wait long enough into following breaths, and the resin comes back to leave the mouth clean and calmly anticipating either the next gulp or next bite of food.
This hopjuice lays out evenly over the tongue and climbs over teeth high into the cheeks--again the hard-working yeast plays a key role without getting so big that it burns.
There is a reason why locals lineup around the block for this ambrosia to be canned. While it will play well all sorts of eats, I wouldn't have OTWOA on the table unless it is the main focus of degustation.

thx @blackie

12oz can, graphics not my thing, served in a lovely pfriem glassware

Kind of ironically described as a "single hop beer using Falconers Flight" - Ummm, a bit of a stretch. Regardless - a bit of a hazy orange body, some nice creamy white film. Aromas of dank, grapefruit rind, bitter citrus. Lots of floral notes, tropical fruit, dank, grapefruit rind, lemon. Decent bitterness - pretty solid all around.
