On tap at When Pigs Fly. In a snifter the beer was a hazy orange color with a small white head. Still, there was a good deal of lace.
Aroma of citrus, pine, and caramel. Very pleasant.
The taste was even better than the aroma promised. Caramel up front, then grapefruit and orange. Some mango. Later the piney hops appeared.
A hoppy beer, but nicely balanced.
I enjoyed this beer, and hope it lasts for a while at the restaurant.

A: Pours a very very cloudy pale orange. Enormous fluffy white head. Head fades slowly, leaving enormous and wide swaths of lacing everywhere. Big island of lacing. Great.
S: Big pungent grapefruit and a little tropical fruit. A little bit of sweet grains but mainly the hops stand out here. A little floral too.
T: Huge huge hops here. Strong, hard-hitting grapefruit primarily. Hints of tropical fruits and pine and especially floral hops. A nice sweet caramel malt pokes through in the finish but can't even dent the hop flavors and waves of bitterness. Pretty much pure grapefruit bitterness in the finish.
M: Pretty light bodied for 8.5%. Big bitterness leads to a quite dry beer.
O: Hop bomb for the hop lovers for sure. Intense hop flavors with decent variety. Intense bitterness. Very tasty.

Wow, lots going on here. Pours a fairly lighter orange than expected, with citrus flavors upfront, pine in the middle and a bitter/dry back-end. For whatever reason, a lot of the double IPAs I've tasted of late have gone a similar route. Would have liked the citrus flavor to stay on throughout; the fact that the flavor drops out near the back end is a bit of a red flag for me. Mouthfeel and carbonation are moderate; overall not a bad DIPA, but not necessarily something I'd seek out again.

Pours much more hazy than I expected. Massive pillowy head, nice clouds of lacing along the glass. Seriously, the head looks like well whipped egg whites. shiny and inviting.
I smell actually a sweet malt initially, with some floral/citrus hops hinting at the edge. enticing, but does not foreshadow what comes next.
The taste is much more hop forward. Bitter, but smoothed at the edges with that mildly sweet maltiness, and an earthy aspect to the hops.
To the hops themselves: I'm getting some mango sweet (with bitterness), some pine, and other almost citrus. More earthiness, with some grapefruit as I continue to sip.
There is certainly a strong hop presence, and the lingering citric bitterness certainly does linger. Not crippling, though, but certainly omnipresent. A good way to unwind and ice my foot

I had at Torst in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
A. I light caramel color, fully opaque and cloudy. I solid white head that leaves behind a wide web of lacing.
S. a slight hop and caramel scent.
T/M. It has a nice sweet taste. There's a caramel and grape undertone. A mild hoppy bitterness. It is carbonated and the alcohol is tame for an 8.5%. A malt kick at end.
O. It is quite flavorful with a fruity sweetness, but not overly so.

A solid white head rests for awhile on a mildly hazed deep medium-to-dark yellow brew. Retention is good overall, and the cap that remains drops sticky lacing in patches that distributes itself pretty densely overall.
The aroma bursts out of the bottle; this one isn't kidding. A huge hops boquet never quits, pumping out all kinds of floral, citrus, and tropical fruits with a touch of zest along with a touch of honey-like sweetness, spiciness, and a touch of boozy with not ethanolic alcohol notes.
While not as balanced in the flavor, this is a tasty beer and one for hopheads to seek, though the $6 price tag for a bottle closer to 11 than 12 ounces may hold some back. The fruits are ripe in here, giving a bit more rind and pith than in the smell. Caramel malts are just enough to keep the bitterness from going over the edge. A spicy bite continues through and combines with an earthy note into the finish.
A dryer beer, this one's got a body that's medium but leans light. It's as crisp as might be expected, but manages a nice smoothness considering.
