Let me start off by saying that this isn't a bad beer, but I'm a bit disappointed. I loved the Hefeweissbier and the Dunkelweizen (albiet a little less) and this one just doesn't come close.

A- The beer looks great. While I tend to prefer darker colors, it's an attractive yellowish gold with a nice, thick head, a bit of lacing, and bubbles floating to the top even as the glass is almost finished. That said, it's not what I was expecting, as the label says "crystal clear" under the name, so I expected even lighter.

S- The beer smells better, and more complex, than it tastes. It has a similar smell to that of the Hefeweissbier. Quite light and fruity.

T- This is where I was disappointed as the taste didn't live up to the strong, sweet smell. It's a bit weak and flavorless, and I don't taste the banana or bubblegum that others mention. That said, the aftertaste is pleasant.

M- Light, not too thick or thin, though.

Overall, I think it'd be a great summer beer, and I may try it again on a hot summer afternoon. Then again, if I like the Hefeweissbier better and that's the same price, I'll probably skip this and go with that, as that's still light as well.

One question...why?

Ya...it's okay but nowhere near worthy of its brethren. All that makes Weihenstaphaner the king is filtered out in this offering. Taste isn't important to those that opt for this over unfiltered.

Do yourself a favor and drink the unfiltered weissbiers...or have a lager instead if you must.

Pours perfectly clear the color of light straw yellow with a tinge of something green. Champagne effervescence and a billowy white head that is loathe to recede and just stays with a thick collar and cap. Soapy wet lace. Very beautiful. Nose is yeast, banana, clove. fruity lemon and peppery with a little skunk. Taste is light as a feather and follows the nose. Banana, sweet grain, bubblegum, a touch metallic and just a little bitter to end. Malt comes forward as it warms but never becomes too sweet. Finishes dry with a hint of apples and pear. Soft, creamy and earthy. Delicate.

Straw yellow in color with perfect clarity. Poured with a huge white, billowy, yet slighty fizzy foam that slowly reduced to a wispy cap. Wheat bread aromas up front followed by sweet banana and light peppery spice beneath. Medium bodied with light, but rich, tangy carbonation. Balanced combination of wheat malt, sweet banana, and light peppery spice up front and into the middle. Tart flavors and a spicy, tangy bite thru the middle to the end with hints of banana sweetness. Finishes with a clean light tartness with sweet notes overtop. Fabulous delicate textures and flavor nuiances. Can't go wrong with Weihenstephaner.

Pours a pale straw yellow with lively bubbles and a frothy white head that hangs around.

Smells of banana, nutmeg, an earthy nuttiness, floral notes, and sour yeast.

Tastes light and refreshing with a full body lurking in the background. Banana and clove notes are there with some lemon zest bitterness. Backed by some earthy wood cedar notes. A solid brew.

500ml bottle poured into pint glass.

A - Light yellow amber, lot's of carbonation. Large, thich head. Dissipated rather quickly, but a thin white remained for the duration of consumption.

S - Sweet + sour mix, tough to put finger on. Dark fruits, grapes especially. Had a wine-like smell. Not too impressed.

T - Not a really a fan of the style, so I didn't really expect to like it. And I didn't. Not terrible, but not good. Dark fruit in a wine-like way, hoppy bitterness (not an a pleasant IPA way, either), salty. Blueberries noticeable when warmed a bit. Beer was more enjoyable about halfway thorugh.

F - Average-good. Crisp and refreshing feel.

O - Again, not a big fan of the style, but I didn't care for this beer. Too much wine-ish taste, and not enough "beerness". Certainly not a bad beer, but I didn't enjoy it.
