I don't have much to say about this beer outside of what top advocates of it have already said. If you have not had this beer, you're missing out. If you have had it, I'm sure you are like me and jump out of your seat a little every time you find it at a bar or restaurant.
Truly art.

I first tried this on tap when I was visiting Berlin, and I seek it out whenever I can. The Weihenstephaner is my favorite wheat beer, with notes of banana and bubblegum, and a smooth, clean finish. No need to add a slice of citrus to this beer, as its full of flavor, and requires nothing more.

At Jimmy the Greek's, South Portland, ME:
In a weizen glass:
A: a soft one finger white head appears and lasts for about a half minute before slowly dieing into the body. Typical cloudy body is seen
S: banana/esters up front with some yeastiness and graininess
T: sweet with previously mentioned flavors combined decently
M: light to medium with a decent creaminess all around.
O: ok, so I'm not much of a hefeweizen fan and rarely do reviews on this style, but I would say this is do-able for me. I'd come back to this.

Had it on-tap at Beerosophy, Bangkok, served in a Weihenstephaner weizen glass.
The showcase is somewhat nearly immaculate with a hazy yellow amber color and a thick fluffy white head. When the head retention and lacing left are exceptional, the aroma and flavor drive forth so mellow, inviting, fresh yet balance with a big touch of fruity ester, citric/lemony zest and bubblegum that nicely parade with a sweet biscuity malt and clove with a spice while wheat with a twang. The feel is smooth with a velvety body and refreshingly crispness/dryness. No doubt this beer is cult, my veneration to the old Weihenstephan again.

The Weihenstephaner Hefeweißbier was my go to weekend morning beverage when I was studying in Allach, Germany, a small Bavarian town just Northwest of Munich.
A - Cloudy, milky, and golden
S - Sweet, sugary, balanced aroma
T - Perfect for pairing with typical Bavarian foods - Weißwurst und Breze, Sweet and refreshing
M - Not too overpowering, well balanced
O - A great true Bavarian Hefeweizen, possibly the greatest
** Claims to be the oldest brewery in the world - whether it is true or not is irrelevant.

On tap at MacGregors in Amherst NY, poured into an 11oz glass
A: Hazy Golden Straw/Orangish Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head, Some Lacing
S: Oranges, Banana
T: Wheat, Oranges, Banana
M: Decent Carbonation, Light to Medium Bodied, Lightly Sweet
Overall, one of the top hefeweizens that are very true to style. So drinkable.

Not sure when or where I first had this, but I've had it several times over the years, bottled and on tap.
Pale golden-yellow pour, hazy, with a tall fluffy white head; decent retention and a bit of lacing. Yeasty aroma, bready, banana esters, clovey spice, pretty much exemplary of the style. The taste reflects the nose, pale bready malts, doughy, toasted wheat, classic hefe yeast, banana and clove. Medium body, fairly smooth mouthfeel, soft carbonation. This is where you go for a no-nonsense hefeweizen.

A: A cloudy golden yellow, I could not tell if it was transparent because of the glass I was drinking out of, a nice big off white head at the top and left very slight lacing.
S: Lots of banana, slight hint of caramel, and wheatyness and spice.
T: Perfect tasting wheat beer, banana that hits you at the end with some spiceyness, and good amount of wheat.
M: MediuM bodied and slight amount of carbonation, just the perfect amount.
O: I enjoyed this brew very much at BIergarten in Hoboken NJ, a great wheat beer, very drinkable, and great for the summer.

On tap pours cloudy with white head. Aroma is clove and banana. High carbonation adds to the tingly mouthfeel. Flavor is a perfect balance of clove and banana and is the best beer to represent this style. Upfront you get the tingly carbonation, then the banana clove hits the middle and finishes semi dry Outstanding.

I get it, this is a really great beer. It's definitely the best German Hefeweizen I've ever had. I just don't think the style is for me. That banana & clove combo just doesn't make it a beer I can fully enjoy. Again, I'll reiterate, this is by far the best beer I've had in this style. I can appreciate one when it's good, even if I don't reach for it voluntarily.

This is a fantastic wheat beer. I am a huge Blue-Moon fan and this beer with its citrus characteristics really made me feel at home.
The color is a beautiful amber. The taste is light with definite citrus. The only place where this beer lost any points in my book was in carbonation. On-tap it didn't seem overly carbonated but when I had a bottle of it my first pour had a lot of head and seemed about right. The second pour I may have been to gentle and the carbonation definitely got in the way of what I would consider the perfect mouthfeel.

Tasted this on tap at Uptown Pub. Only had a sampling but what I tasted was excellent. Would definitely get this in the future, and i look forward to doing a more in depth review. Thick creamy head, rich mouthfeel, banana clove and wheat flavors prominent, extremely smooth. Incredibly balanced and thick mouthfeel, I cannot exclaim that enough. Fantastic brew overall.

On-tap at 2 Amys in DC. Had this one countless times, but never reviewed it
Beer pours a gorgeous hazy yellow-orange with a fluffy white head. Maybe it's seeing it in the Weihenstephan glass, but this beer looks fantastic. Smell is awesome as well, perfect hefeweizen aroma of banana and clove. Flavor follows the nose, this pretty much epitomizes what a hefeweizen should be. Mouthfeel is light-bodied with nice carbonation. Overall, this is probably the best year-round, easy-to-get hefe in existence. It's a great beer for a hot day, and very refreshing. The only things that hold this back from a higher score are that 1) hefeweizens aren't my favorite style and 2) it's not quite on the level of my two favorite hefes, the Andechs and the Live Oak.

Lucky enough to have this one on tap at the Weihenstephan beer garden.
A - Cloudy golden color with a thick white head. The head retention is very good with nice lacing.
S - Nice balance between banana and clove esters. I feel that the Weinstephaner displays the clove notes more so than most others that i have tried.
T - Nice balance of notes from the yeast. Banana, clove, mixed with wheat. Very light hopping in balance with the malt.
M - Nice mouthfeel with high carbonation that sizzles on the tongue.
D - This is probably my favorite hefeweizen. A great beer overall especially if you be lucky enough to taste it fresh.

Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier is a textbook example of a classic Hef that achieves the pinnacle of the style. Poured into a belgian hefeweissbier glass, the beer stands tall with a pure white, soft bubbly foam head that tantalizes you to take a sip. Upon first sip, one instantly recognizes that hearty wheat flavor, combined with a comfortable, relaxed, light body mouth feel that is extremely satisfying. After a few sips one begins to appreciate the subtle complexity of the beer, with orange and light citrus hints as well as the classic German yeasty-malty flavor. Perfect beer with a light meal or on it's own, one never tires of a cold Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier.

Poured into a classic Hef glass. Always a sexy beer when poured in the proper wear.
Hazy golden orange with a giant pillowy head
Bananas, cloves in the nose.
Banana bread, cloves, sweet fruity esters with a very light hop finish.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Fluffy and drinkable.
This is THE Hef. This is the standard that everything else is compared to and often fails.

On tap at the Braustuberl Weihenstephaner, Freising, so shouldn't come any fresher than this !
Poured into the appropriate 0.3l glass with a couple of fingers head
A real treat of a hefeweiss ! You can tell they've been dabbling in the field for 971 years, I think they've cracked it !!!
Cloudy dark yellow in colour (there wasn't much lighting in the cellar room we were in, so difficult to be precise on this one!)
Full of flavour namely a hint of banana with cloves and other spices, truly well balanced beer of this style
The smells largely matched the taste to save repetition
The mouthfeel did it for me, silky smooth and my palate begged for more, lacing remained throughout my drinking experience
Wunderbar !!!

Served cold into a large tulip glass.
It has a very hazy golden color with thick, creamy, lacy head.
Aroma is fruity, spicy, and nutty.
Flavor is mild but full of depth and character. Banana, bubblegum, and clove all come forward.
Mouthfeel is wonderful on tap. Smooth, light, and creamy.
Overall a great beer that is possibly even better served on tap.

A staple among hefeweizen's. This beer dominates with a banana and clove taste and aroma. I used to drink tons of this and now I can't just because it's so darned carbonated. It is however, as someone who does not drink many session beers, one of the better session imports one can find.

Enjoyed at Loreley's in NYC.
Had this side by side with a Franziskaner Hefe on tap in the same kind of glassware.
A - Poured into a 1L Hofbrau mug. Hazy orange medium orange in color with a large white fluffy head. OK retention but really good lacing.
S - Spice, clove, banana, wheat, the aroma was more pronounced than the Franziskaner I compared it with.
T - Wow, just fantastic. Wheaty and really complex. More complex than the nose lets on but with all the same sort of flavor profiles.
M - Exactly what youd expect. Palate coating and almost heavy on the tongue which was unexpected but enjoyable. The carbonation really cleanses your palate.
O - I must say I enjoyed this one just slightly better than the Franziskaner I had side by side with them. But it was such a small margin that it was almost non-existent. World class stuff here. From the claimed oldest brewery in the world you wouldnt expect anything less.

On tap at Beermarket in Toronto. Pours hazy orange with a huge white head. Nose is of yeast, banana, bubble gum and cloves. Medium, slightly crisp, creamy body. Yeast, banana, bubble gum and cloves combine on the palate in a wonderful complexity. Long, balanced finish. I’m not a fan of hefe, but this one is outstanding brew.
