I was at the Hershey lodge with my wife for a conference and there was a break during the day for lunch. I was thinking about heading out but given the time restraints decided to stay at the lodge and headed downstairs to the Bear's Den. there were a couple thousand people in the conference so the fact there were about 50 people waiting ahead of us was not a surprise. They gave us a pager and we waited for about 45 minutes which was pretty quick considering the actual number of tables here.
The thing that surprised me was that I walked to the bar during the wait and they had a good amount of craft on tap. They carried at least 6 Troegs beers including a Scratch tap which is usually only found at the brewery. They had other good options like Rogue and Sam Adams on tap too. They had a decent selection of bottles including Stone, Rogue and Wells to name a few. The food was pretty decent even though I was hungry it wasn't just hunger pangs that made me think it was tasty. It came to us quickly and was hot - I sampled some of my wife's sandwich and my grilled cheese with mozzarella basil and tomato was fresh. I consider this the kind of place I could be comfortable in- it is set up to resemble the hockey rink for a Hershey bears game and they have a lot of memoribilia in the cases as you come in.
I would say if you are near Hershey there aren't a lot of choices, but you can find something better than the chains here at the Hershey Lodge -I would recommend it if you are near Harrisburg but don't want to drive too far east. I would say for the amount of people that rushed the place the service was really better than average. I liked the fact that I could get a scratch cocoabunga redux during my lunch break!
