Hope And Anchor has a very laid back attitude and a great atmosphere. The friendly, young, hip clientele make the bar one of the best in the city and my personal favorite.
The establishment has a large outdoor patio with two bars, and an indoor bar.
There are only a handful of beers on tap, though the picks are good - Fraziskaner Dunkel is the stand out on draught.
However, there is an ever growing bottled beer menu (and yes, there are physical menus available) which include many of my favorite import and specialty beers. It's one of the few bars in the city you can score a Weihenstephaner Hefeweisse, and that makes this place a winner in my book.
Their website lists an outdated beer menu, and it has grown quite a bit since it was posted. Next time I hit the place up, I'll be sure to list all the new beers.
Not over-the-top expensive, but it's little bit pricey for the city.
Jim Ward, former member of Sparta and the seminal post-hardcore band At The Drive In, co-owns Hope And Anchor which he opened in 2009.
