Nice, pale APA pour. Smells very nicely crisp and hoppy. Light nodes of pine and earthen spice against bready English malt.
Tastes good, at first; like a crisp, balanced, high-alpha APA. But--here's the weird part--the hops are aggressive, but there's no citrus or spice or anything nice, really. They're strong but empty, and the result is an unpleasantly earthy flavor that's like burning wood. This would be forgivable if it were simply an off node, but the hops are here the star of the show, they override most everything else.
I didn't know they grew hops in Michigan. And, well, judging by the offness in this one, they maybe probably shouldn't. That's a shame, too, because this isn't a badly *brewed* beer by any stretch--it's just that for some reason they decided to try building a beer around a frankly unpalatable variety of hop.

Straw yellow translucent beer under a half inch of foam threat left oily etching all down the glass. Smell is floral, grassy, and pine. Strong pine.
Flavor starts with pive and some citrus pith. The bitterness is low across the back of the throat, ending in huge drying astringency, almost but not quite too much.
Very similar to the Harrison's AIPA, this is a one-hop beer. It is well executed, but the single-hopping does leave the overall taste more of a one-note experience. Overall, recently LBC has had a series of hoppier lighter ales that have been really tasty.
From LBC: "Our new Michinook APA. Brewed with IdaPils and crystal malts, this beer is hopped exclusively with Michigan-grown Chinook hops. The resulting hoppy brew is deep golden in color and features a burst of fresh Chinook hops. Absolutely delicious! 5.6% ABV 64 IBUs."
