While I'm wintering in sunny Iowa City, I needed my Michigan beer fix. The only Michigan beers that are available in Iowa City are Bells. And that's all fine and dandy, but I wanted some Founders, Dark Horse, and New Holland, and found them just a hop, skip, and jump away across the Mississippi river at the Silvis Hy-Vee. It was recommended to me by a friend here in Iowa City, who is from the Davenport area.

We were very impressed with the variety of beers available (including 3 cases of Hopslam and 2 mini kegs, and it's been gone in Iowa City for a while now). They had all the year round releases from Founders, and some of the seasonal like the Cerise and Curmudgeon. They also had some tasty treats from Dark Horse, including their staple Crooked Tree IPA, but they had the Blueberry Stout, The Perkulator, One Oatmeal Stout. Also New Holland year rounds, plus the Dragons Milk. Was surprised to find some Avery available, which is not in Iowa, as well as Great Divide, so we picked up the last two Yeti's they had. I'm glad I made the drive, and will most likely do it again before I return to Michigan in the spring. It's worth the drive across the river, as we stopped in another Hy-Vee just on the other side in Iowa, and the selection was the same as here in Iowa City.
