Happened to be in Walla Walla for a couple of days of wine tasting, and so thought I'd stop by for a beer to cleanse my palate.
Can't really say one gets the very best impression upon walking in, as the green walls and lack of any adornment give the place sort of a stark vibe. The tables and chairs looks as if the were obtained from some grade school, cafeteria yard sale. Otherwise, the dining area is fairly good size, with a modest size bar (6 or 7 seats) straight back from the door as you come in off of 4th street. The atmosphere and vibe here are very laid back and informal.
On this particular day, I think they had 10 beers on tap, mostly light and low alcohol ales, with things like a peach hefe, strawberry cream, an oatmeal porter, an IPA, a blond ale and a stout. The one high octane beer was an imperial blond (12% abv.), which frankly really didn't sound all that appealing. Tried the IPA and the oatmeal porter, both of which were competently made, but not something to get overly excited about either.
Our server was pleasant and quick, and maintained a pretty even disposition, despite one patron who was already much the worse for wear (it was only 3:30 in the afternoon on a Wednesday). I didn't get the impression that she knew a whole lot about the beers here, but she would happily pour a sample of anything you wanted to try, and my guess is that a whole lot of beer knowledge probably isn't all that necessary for the clientele here.
I would be curious to know how well the alehouse is doing these days. Walla Walla seems to have an increasing number of places where one can go to find craft beer on tap (Pub 124, Red Monkey, etc.), so it's not as if Laht Neppur is the only game in town any more (I don't think the Mill Creek Brewpub even qualifies as a viable option). The IPA I had was decent, but I didn't find it superior to some of the offerings from Portland and Seattle one can now find in town.
Not sure I need to stop by again any time soon.

Located in downtown Walla Walla, the LN Ale House lacks a bit of ambience but makes up for it with above average beers. A small 6 seat bar sets in the corner, about 10-12 tables spread out across the room which is dominated by a stage as they feature music on Saturday nights. Not really interested in the music, and if I have to pay a cover to have a beer tonight I'm gonna be pissed. Small food menu, pizza seems to be the big item just as at the brewery, not really that great, a few sandwiches. Our waitress was quite pleasant and quick, no complaints. Beer selection isn't quite as good as the brewery, all the standards but not the one-offs. The beer is pretty good, and that's why I'll go back. The best place in town to grab a beer, check it out.
