Welcome to the future. Our collective human consciousness, or Ghost in the Machine, has gained a tolerance for hops beyond what mankind has ever known before. This double India Pale Ale is the necessary outcome. Brewed with obscene quantities of hand-selected Citra hops from our favorite farm in Yakima Valley, WA. Expect pungent grapefruit aromas and flavors, tropical fruit, and less harsh bitterness than most IIPAs.

Had this the first go-around and loved it. It has been re-released, this time in 4-pk 12oz bottles. Even better!

Canned 3/5/24.
Pours a turbid golden color with plenty of foamy, frothy, off-white colored head. This is pretty much the archetypal NEIPA look. The aroma seems to lean toward the cattier/danker end of the Citra spectrum, as I note plenty of pine, grass, and lemon. Subtle ale esters (peach, apricot) show up. The aromatics are well-done, if not quite to my personal taste. Ditto the...uhhhh...the taste. To this palate, it tastes more piny than tropical, though being completely devoid of any bitter bite helps its case. I really like the vanilla cream-esque opening in particular, though I wished the back end was more tropical. Still, I can't fault the balance or refinement. It goes down the palate almost effortlessly; there's little hop burn, and it never grows an overly chalky texture. Carbonation is decent without being overbearing. Objectively, it deserves every decimal of its 99 score; subjectively, there are other NEIPAs I'd pick over this. Call it personal preference. I can taste the quality, it just doesn't hit my palate the way I wanted it to.

16 oz can into Jolly Pumpkin tulip glass
Had this in New Orleans a few days before New Years Eve and flew a couple cans back with me.
Opaque, orange juice appearance. Tight head leaves a fair about of sticky lacing.
Aromas are dank, citrusy, grassy.
Citrusy, tropical on the palate. Distinct notes of tangerine and pineapple, hints of mango and berry sweetness. Piney as well. Flavors pull from both West Coast and North East styles of IPAs, even though it’s categorized as a Hazy.
Absolute knock out brew. Reminds me of something Toppling Goliath would come up with.

From a 16oz can:
Appearance: Cloudy orange-yellow, huge puffy head.
Smell: Starts with stinky socks, evolves into mild citrus.
Taste: Moderately sweet, creamy, orange creamsicle. Soft feel, very low bitterness.
Overall: I've seen this around the Twin Cities and on Beer Advocate but finally picked up a 4 pack since it was canned 19 days ago. Very nice NE-style DIPA, no hop burn, just sweetened orange and soft feel.

On tap at the House of Brews in Jensen Beach, Florida.
Appearance. Cloudy golden body with a weak white head.
An exceptionally juicy IIPA that's dominated by notes of citrus and other tropical fruits from the Citra hops.

Drank this alongside one of my favorites, Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, and realized how much better this was than 90 Minute. Ghost in the Machine is right up there with Zombie Dust and King Sue.
