Meant to drink this on 12/21/12 but had too much going on.

Pours a decent fluffy almost creamy 1 finger head, fades at a med pace with nice lacing, hazy semi murky dark molasses brown color and hint of mahogany light somehow making it through.

Nose starts with darker malts, caramel and candy, also dark candi sugar, a bit of molasses and brown sugar, and hint of nutty. Also hint of dark fruits like plum and fig bit very little. Booze kicks in with light esters and some typical Belgian phenols. Smells like it will be syrupy and sweet too.

Taste starts with the typical esters and phenols from some of the mystic beers except more dominant, with dark fruits mostly raisin but a little fig. Little yeasty too, and dark malts, a bit of dark caramel and molasses, as well as light candi sugar. There is also a light infection like sourness that I remember from many a homebrew. Also an herbal icky hop flavor in there that combines with the sourness to a really icky flavor. Finish is sticky but dry, lingering dark fruit and candi sugar, but a little infection sourness, and a bit yeasty.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, decent carb, just a bit of booze so at least it drinks well.

Overall meh, a bit sad as this beer is quite a let down for most of the mystic beers. It's yeasty, light soured infection taste, herbal icky hops, and malts aren't that great. There is nothing great about this, no real redeeming qualities.

Batch 001
375ml bottle

Pours a brownish color with a freakin' huge head in my chalice, fades at a very slow rate and makes me wait a long while to even get a sip, last of the pour leaves huge chunkies.

Smell has a decent amount of Belgian candied sugar on the nose with dark fruit and a touch of banana.

Taste is pretty large and in charge when it comes to the candied sugar and dark fruit, raisin-y throughout, it is very boozy, the heat doesn't burn the mouth so much as it does the throat, carbonation is very high which is expected, decent thickness and creaminess.

Purchased entirely due to the name. Have only had one offering from mystic- their first saison- which wasn't very good, but they said as much, and I've heard that they've improved a lot.

Music is appropriate... Catacombs.

Pours a heavy, murky opaque black. Held to the light of a dying fire, some faint dark bloody amber highlights around the edges. Persistent scummy film of off-white head that leaves plenty of lacy filth on the glass.

Big, heavy, ponderous aromas of dark, alcohol-laden sweetness. Pungent earthy fruit notes, fruits left too long on the vine.

Massive, oozing flavors with weight that darkly lauds the 12% alcohol. Big boozy warmth from that alcohol powered furnace. The decrepit earthy, fruity promise of the aroma is fully delivered in figs and grapes, the yeasts used to gnaw through these malts lending more vinious notes.

Thick, menacing, and chewy on the palate. Plenty of weight, plenty of finish. You won't mistake the beast you consume.

A dark day indeed. Fear. Unknown depths. Dark, intoxicating magic.

The beer's pretty damn good too.

750ml bottle, batch 1.

Pours dark brown, nearly opaque with a beige, spongy head. After the retreat, a solid skim coat remains on the surface for the duration of the glass along with plenty of tattered lacing.

Candied figs, raisins, brown sugar, and grape jam lead off the nose. Dark rum, candied apples, and light roast follow through.

Medium bodied with a creamy, lush mouthfeel.

Run-drizzeled over sugar-dusted raisins with a rich caramel reduction starts the palate. Sweet malt, purple grapes, and boozy undertones follow through.

Finishes with lingering rum, candied apples, and rich, juicy malt.

A tasty, big, sweetish beer. Lacking the attenuation and ripe fruit found in the best quads but certainly cellar-worthy.

Mystic Brewery - Day Of Doom - 1pt 6fl oz

Look - Pours dark coffee and heavy with a hearty, foamy head. Thick and floating sediment. Minimal carbonation. Has the look of a badass brew.

Smell - Sweet chocolate, cocoa, and coffee. You can smell the alcohol.

Taste - Smooth, creamy, chocolaty, interesting Quad, was not really expecting that. There are many more flavors in here but they were hard to handpick out of the taste, very busy. The complexity is more appreciated over time.

Mouthfeel - Fades quickly, leaves a bitter cocoa/burnt sugar in the mouth. Surprisingly dry which leaves you thinking about your next sip.

Overall - Not overly impressed but a hearty beer for sure. This one may have you wondering later on and wanting to try it again. Interesting...

Very large, lumpy, frothy head (over 2/3 of the glass). The liquid is dark ruby, amber. Appears to be clear.

Sweet candy sugar aroma. Notable alcohol nose as well.

Classic Quad taste and feel. Lots of alcohol warmth on the tongue. The mild sweetness is muted by the strength of this warmth. Above average carbonation to the otherwise rich body. Long Scotch-like aftertaste. No bitterness.

375ml bottle purchased as a single from Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA. Corked and caged, Batch 001.

Poured into a DFH snifter, formed a 1" frothy dark tan head over the almost opaque chestnut brew. Head holds on firmly, with tons of chunky lacing. Aroma is toffee, fruits, and alcohol.

Taste is dark fruits and spices to start, a peek of citrus in the middle, then close with more spice and alcohol warmth. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, and drinkability is alright. I'd expected a bit more depth of flavor from this one, and not much alcohol flavor, but much of the warming.

Absolutely beautiful beer. Poured from a nice fancy 12.68 oz cork-caged single into a standard pint glass, and the head (plus lacing) was intense.
A: Oh so gorgeous to the eye. A dark mahogany, almost purplish in its deep ruby complexion. A great frothy cream-coloured head that was absolutely delicious, with slippery lacing all ova
S: Grass, biscuit, toasted cookies, flowers, citrus, pine, berries and some grape
T: Follows the nose and pleasantly surprises. Berries and bread, smoke and roasted nuts all combine to give this active dance of a beverage a sort of meadow-like collaborative effect.
M: Yeast is no joke in here, and plays a crucial role to cleanse the palate after blasting it with hoppy sweet seriousness... The brew drinks amazingly smoothly. It is crisp and absolutely perfect cold. I was just a hair away from giving this perfect fives all throughout the rating.
O: A little bitter, a little smokey, a little bready, very hoppy, strong malt character, really just a masterful balance here. Lots of intriguing flavor, yet no out-of-place wild cards. A careful brewing project, and Mystic has very much impressed me once again. I will definitely try Day of Doom in the future. It's not nearly as foreboding as the name suggests, and the high (12%) alcohol content is masked as well as I could possibly imagine. Mystic is where it's at folks! Also another highlight of this drink was I got a batch #001!

A-The cork almost took my face off. Pours a dark brown color. Light really has trouble entering this beer. Head starts off big and bubbly, but it dies off to a thin bog of tan. Softer lacing rings.

S-Whoa, this beer is ridiculously yeasty. Estery too. Dark, dried fruit. Mexican cola. Caramel, toffee and molasses. Booze sneaks up behind the yeastiness. Mystic clearly has its own take on the Quad. Pretty cool.

T-Oh god that is not good. Perhaps the most metallic flavor I have run across in a beer. Copper and nickel slaps around the palate. There is a Quad behind that flavor, but sadly it has been silenced.

M-I will say that the booze is hidden well. Soft carbonation.

O/D-Something is a miss. I will finish it, but barely. Mystic is a cool local brewery, I have loved some of their brews, but this...not so much.
