This is a place I wish I'd have stopped by during some warmer months. I was able to catch a glimpse of the beer garden, which was closed because it's now a chilly fall Tuesday evening, but it looked outstanding and I can imagine some good times being had out there. There weren't many people in but again it was a Tuesday night. Otherwise, a very nice setup with wood tables, a decent amount of space.
I only had the chance to try two beers while I was there. Both were good but did not blow me away. The STL locals rant and rave about the beer here so I'll be back to give some more a shot.
The bartenders were friendly, graciously poured samples, offered their knowledge, and genuiinly seemed engaged in the beers and customers.
They had a nice selection of old european styles and modern american styles.
Good prices, speaking strictly of the beer. I didn't have a chance to eat any food.
I'll definitely be back to try some more. I hear a lot of good things about this place and while I wasn't personally blown away I can see the potential and maybe just selected the wrong two beers to try.

Urban Chestnut's main drinking area is a bit sparse, but it's well lit. Seating was hard to come by while we were there around 5 on a Saturday. I hear there's also a beer garden, but we didn't venture outside. Walking up to the entrance you can view their compact but seemingly large brewing setup.
I was really impressed with the amount and variety of beers on tap. And having tried four of them, I was equally impressed with how good they were. Definitely above average. So now I can't wait to go back and spend a little more time there.
Prices seem high to me at $5 a glass, but I'm used to paying $3.75 at my local brewery. The bar tenders were friendly and helpful.
Definitely check this place out if you're in St. Louis! It's right down the street from the Fox Theater, which was convenient for us to hit up after seeing The Book of Mormon.

Interesting place. Was there for the festival on May 12th, 2012. Nice setup with picnic tables outside and more tables inside. Staff was very pleasant. I got to talk to the head brewer too, he was very helpful and knowledgeable. The beers were quite tasty, especially the spruce ale, which was my favorite. I'm not rating the food, because even though I was able to eat, they had various BBQ joints from in town serving food for this event. Smoki-O's was quite tasty though, as usual! I love that place! Prices for beer were ok. I'd like to go again, and try some more of their beers. I can tell you the zwickel is great stuff because they served it at another place in town that I've been to before.

My 2nd visit here. Fairly busy for late afternoon on a Sunday. About 15 beers on tap. One flat screen draws a crowd for the Cardinal game. A lonely dart board and foosball table in the back are near the restrooms. Friendly knowledgable service. Great beer. It was raining or I would have tried the beer garden. Tried the bratwurst and it was fantastic in the pretzel bun. Loved the mustard and I dislike mustard. Wish it had been warm, though. It was room temperature.

This place was a nice surprise near, but slightly off the beaten path, from St Louis University. It has the great atmosphere that one would expect at a micro-brewery, namely a large Spartan brick walled room with wooden beams in the ceiling, exposed ventilation pipes, drop ceiling lights, large wooden tables, etc. It also has a nice outside beer garden. The beer selection was limited with 8 on tap, although the quality of the 3 I had were very good. They also encourage trying a sample first before ordering. Bartenders were friendly and generally very helpful. The food was very limited and not intended as a meal, but rather as an appetizer. The sausage platter I had was tasty and went well with the double IPA I was drinking. All in all a nice experience.

This place had a great atmosphere from the second we walked in. A very friendly staff and a very handsome looking bar. The room is brick on the sides and has a cement floor with wood tables. The brewery is in an old car garage and you can see everything inside. The guys running the place seem to have alot of experience and it shows in the beer. They have 12 beers, 6 are revolution beers which are new and celebrate the craft brewery renaissance. The other 6 are revelation and are based on traditional german beers. Everything we've had so far is delicious and nothing is stopping us from returning again soon.

Cool place, wish I could have stayed longer. Looked like they had a nice food menu, but didn't get a chance to try any! It nice to see a lot of German brews on tap, their take on a Bavarian IPA was very nice. Glad I was able to stop in for a sampler, happy to see so many small breweries in St. Louis taking on the big boys! Keep up the good work!

Second time here and still impressed. First time was week after they opened. Beer selection improves each time. More higher gravity options (Kinsale and STLIPA). Around 12 total choices. Very generous with free tasting samples before having you make your decision. Great atmosphere with wooden tables. Very knowledgeable and friendly bar staff. Outdoor area will be great once weather improves. Limited food options but meat and cheese platter was very good. If traveling to St Louis for beer, make this a required stop.
