Very interesting beer, perhaps my favorite from my trip to UC brewery.

Pretty good looking, cloudy and between tan and amber, good head and lacing.

Smell was really amazing, reminding me strongly of that first wort smell when you're brewing. Taste had Lots of hops and pine, good wheat component, a little caramel malt sweetness.

Body was thick and chewy, like a wheat beer more than an IPA.

Great beer, must try!!

A German IPA? Interesting. Growler shared by Chris (spycow). Served in a New Glarus tasting glass.

A: Pours a clear yellow color with a whispy white head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thick collar. Very reminiscent of a lager.

S: Grassy hops with a definite German pilsner yeast characteristic that is making this border on the lager side of things. There is a still a nice malty sweetness there.

T: The taste follows the nose really closely. Grassy hops with that pilsner yeast like quality. There is a touch more fruitiness in than the nose which brings back the IPA qualities of this beer. Nice sweet bread malts as well.

M: Light and crisp with a nice refreshing finish. Very lager-like.

O: This was an on hybrid type beer. It was definitely different with the German pilsner like qualities to it. Would definitely have again.

Served this American IPA on tap, at the brewery, in a pint glass. This AIPA poured a cloudy golden, amber color, produced a white head, excellent retention and left a nice amount of lacing on the glass. The aroma consisted of malted grain, fresh cut grass and citrus grapefruit. Medium in body, this brew had a base of carmel malted grain, semi bitter with a piney/citric dry finish. Excellent beer , one of the best examples of a locally brewed IPA that i have tasted. Prost!

A - Poured a cloudy, golden/amber color with a bubbly, white head of foam. It left sticky patches of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of grasses and pine with some sweet caramel.

T - Piney with a grassy, mild bitterness. Good caramel backbone with a touch orange zest.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is a really unique and really tasty IPA. I've enjoyed all three of the UCBC beers I've tried so far.

Thank to Sean for sharing.

A - Slightly hazy, yellow beer. Nice white head that faded to a ring with some good lace on the sides.

S - Some lemon zest, floral notes, and a slight bit of pungent odor. I guess there is some sort of odd (not bad) german yeast note to this thing. Somewhat different.

T - Not bad, some herbal and floral hops with a bit of sweetness and bread to it. I prefer a traditional American IPA, but like this better than the belgian counterparts.

M - Smooth, medium bodied, moderate carbonation.

O - A good beer, I'd like to try more of this and more of this style as it's kind of a new experience. Would drink again. Went down easy.

Served in a Heady Topper glass. Thanks to Sean & Co. for picking this up.

A - Finger-plus of white foam settles to a thick collar, leaving tiny spots of lace. The body is a hazy pale golden color.

S - Big Hallertau hop aroma - spicy herbs, lemons, and a touch of cat pee and soap in the periphery. The malt backbone is nice and crackery. This is nothing like a Belgian or American IPA, but the work really well together.

T - The taste takes a bit of a step backward, as there's a mild hop astringency in the finish, but otherwise it's a similar combination of herbal and floral hop flavors with a biscuit malt profile. There's a bit more malt sweetness imparting a kiss of caramel.

M - Smooth medium body, chewy texture, moderate carbonation, and a super dry finish with tons of resinous hop oils lingering.

D - Crushable stuff - interesting cross between an American IPA and a German Pilsener. Definitely the best GIPA I've ever had, and something I'd return to frequently if it were on-tap locally.

Poured from the tap a hazy golden peach color with a small, quickly-fading white cap.

Aroma of hoppy lemon, herbal notes and a bit of spice.

The taste matched the aroma with lemon, herbal notes, spice and light caramel malts.

Medium bodied and dry with moderate carbonation.

The blackboard at the bar listed this as a Bavarian IPA and not Belgian as listed here. Whatever you call it, this is one enjoyable beer from Urban Chestnut.

On-tap at UCB and out of a cool UCB growler!

A - Pours a yellow golden color, hazy/mirky, white head, nice collar, thin cap, sticky lacing.

S - A nice dose of citrus hops, some floral notes, low level of Belgian yeast (which I prefer), light level of sweetness. Solid.

T - Excellent citrus hoppy bitterness, floral, barley any level of Belgian yeast, the hops overtake pretty much everything, slight orange citrus sweetness. Refreshing.

M - Light, good carbonation, oily sweet finish.

O - Really an enjoyable Bavarian IPA. Would def make this a staple in my fridge if offered in bottles and def going to get again on my next visit.

Drank this out of a fairly nice size snifter, so far this is only on tap at the brewpub.

Appearance is a light orange bordering on a deep yellow.

The smell is great, nice good spicyness from those german hops that are predominate in this beer,

Taste, this is one of my favorite beers when I go to the brewpub. I am more of an american hop fan so this being predominately german hops it surprises me how much I like it.

mouthfeel- is very nice, pretty much typical for this style.

Overall- If you are in St. Louis make it a point to stop by the brewpub and try their beers, they totally lean towards German styles but that is not all bad :)

Pours a cloudy, orange/maize color. 1/2 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of citrus, floral, slight sweet malt, and spice (cardamom ?). Fits the style of a Belgian IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is also a noticeable dryness. Tastes of citrus hops, slight sweet malt, floral hops, and slight spice. Overall, good appearance, aroma, mouth feel, and blend.
