Fascinating subterranean craft beer bar, one of the best in Wellington. Publican Dom is knowledgeable and runs this establishment well. Multiple rooms and live music on some nights.

A funky little bar that is down in a basement underneath the streets. The atmosphere, fixtures and fittings are fantastic - look like they either cost quite a bit or were well-picked by the people fitting it out.

Quite a large range of craft beers, ciders and spirits - you pay for it, but a lot of them are very special.

This is a fantastic place to chill out and forget about... whatever it is you want to forget about. A stylish and funky little bar.

Catching up on my reviews so sorry for the lateness... I went to this place June of 2013. Found out about it here. This place was great! Like someone else said its for us beer geeks for sure. A bit hard to find, Basement space, limited seating, a bit tight, but very cool. A garage band of beer bars. And also an oasis of super hoppy ones! Knowledgeable friendly staff. I remember the food being just ok. More snack type stuff. Good place in Wellington!

Hashigo Zake is for me one of the best place to drink good craft beers in Wellington.

Thanks to there great knowledge, if you go there and you don't really know what you want, the professionnal staff will find it for you !

They have a bery good selection of beers form everywhere in the world.

The concept of the bar is to drink good beers and good Sake, so if you like you can drink some as well.

Have look by yourself, you will not be disapointed !

Went here on 7/3/14 with my wife, this was the place I wanted to visit the most in NZ after reading reviews for this place. Right by my hotel its a bit of a hole in the wall dark basement bar but even on this sunny day I didn't want to leave. NZ tap list looks great, I had a 27% Bumeye Ice distilled brew that I didn't know existed. The bottle list was insane, stuff from everywhere and I could've broke the bank with no problems but time was a factor. The staff were awesome and everyone of them knew their shit, cool guys no doubt. The people there have a passion for beer and it shows for sure, even though they were busy setting up for a tasting they took the time to shoot the shit and talk beer. We were there shortly after they opened and it started to fill up fast, I could see this place getting loud and packed in a hurry. I thought the prices were reasonable for a NZ city, could buy bottles to go for a few bucks cheaper then on site consumption something I can't do in Canada. This is a bar for beer geeks, I can't imagine they get much random street traffic and their not targeting the masses and in Wellington they don't need to. This should be the first stop for beer geeks in Wellington, the setting might not blow you away but the beer lists and people just might.

best pup in Southern Hemisphere. Bar none.

Good Pacific feel to it. Smallish place, on a busy night hard to get a seat. Tries not to be hip and does not hype what it has. Has the right touches to make this place feel like home and comfortable.

Great tap beers and solid quality of bottles. They do import their own stuff so bottle dating is important there. Can get faded IPA's easily.

Brilliant service. Staff know their beers and are willing to talk about it. Friendly and approachable. Shame not like that in Sydney.

Solid range. Some hard to get Mikkeller, US stuff, German, and NZ tap beers. Taps change on a consistent basis. Easy to read board that lets you know what is on tap and what is coming on tap. Brilliant. Matching glasses are a big plus. Or Brewery branded glasses.

Small food menu. Some nice pies, noodles, and nibbles. Reasonably priced at that.

Some bottles are expensive but taps are well priced. Two hand pumps are a bonus. US beers are reasonable and not the markup of Australian places.

Great venue worth the trip to Wellington.

Quite simply the best bar we went to in New Zealand. The selection is impeccable, although very pricey (bottles are very expensive, while our first two drafts totaled $23).

The bartenders seem quite knowledgeable, and when we asked about a couple of the beers on tap, we received tasters immediately without prompting. Really top-notch service.

We didn't try any food, but we saw a few folks with edamame, and they seemed pleased. This place was all about the beer for us, and I'm hoping to return before we leave Wellington in a couple of days.

Hashigo Zake is pretty sweet. Basically, they know their stuff, work hard to get in the beers they want and will go all out to provide great service.

I stopped in a couple of times while in Wellington and was impressed by the knowledge of the bartenders who knew about the beers they were serving and knew what they liked. I was also impressed by the huge range of bottles available on top of the cool tap range.

Hashigo manages to get in some great beers by being an importer as well as a bar. This means access to a range of Japanese and American beers as well as limited release NZ beers that are seen nowhere else in Australasia.

The highlight of service for me was when the bartender pointed me in the direction of another beer because the keg of Rogue Mocha Porter was infected. That level of service and dedication to beer is highly commendable.
