This brewery is in a Benedictine monastery founded in 1120, and located in the Swiss mountain town of Engelberg. My wife and I just happened across it when we were visiting Switzerland.
The surrounding landscape is absolutely beautiful. The monastery is on the edge of the town and completely surrounded by the gorgeous Swiss Alps.
The brewery only produces one style of beer but they do serve others. It's delicious but I can't really place the style. Their website claims it's a style unique to the region.
The monastery also produces numerous desserts, pastries, and a delicious cheese that is of a style unique to the monastery. They use the cheese and the beer to make an awesome fondue that is the perfect pairing to the local brew.
The restaurant is a sort of cafeteria style where you go up to the front to order and the food is brought to your table. While you drink your beer and wait for your food you can watch the cheese being made. The entire process goes on in a glass room so you can watch every step.
If you're in the region it's worth a quick day trip.
