A: It is what it is. Traditional pub in a location which is a beer wasteland by many standards. You wont find any beer geek speak here no one really knows the scene nor do they really know about anythign local. I lived here for 3 years and know the area up n down. Visited Orcutt Brewing next door on the day they opened. I was able to hit this place before I moved to Washington St.
Q: The beer qualuty here is average and that is being generous.
S: Service was really good for a pub in Orcutt.
S: Poor. 4 drafts are micro. Of course they have FW, who doesnt in this area and three other handles which were also nothing to cheer about. The bottle selection was mediocre at best. Again, FW, DFH and stuff you can find anywhere. There was a total of 12 craft beers here, any of which youy can grab anywhere.
F: Did not eat but just had a beer and left.

Visited twice now. Once on 11/28/2010 on my way south after Thanksgiving and once the day before Christmas Eve but there was a line down the street so I didnt even bother waiting.
The place is right next door to Orcutt Brewing, so you can park your car and check out both places. Rooney's is more of a popular/upscale bar/club (compared to the lounge/dive bar that is Orcutt). It can get pretty loud in there but I went in shortly before closing so the drunks were a minor distraction. The service is on the ball and they try to make beer suggestions for the customers.
There is a bottle list which by SD or SF standards isnt that great but it's a well thought out selection and they dont have access to a lot on the coast.
I had a nice conversation with the owner/brewer Jake Rooney. He said that he's looking to put 8-10 house beers on and do a number of experimental small batch beers. He certainly has the clientele to stay open but whether or not they'll drink the beer is another story. I hope he makes it. That way I'll always have two places to stop at on the same exit from 101 (Clark Ave). There's also Santa Maria Brewing a couple exits up the road and from what I understand he's helping the guys at Rooney's out during the start up.
Parking can be tough on a Saturday night but there is also street parking. Just watch out for the cops who like to sit and wait for people to walk to their cars.
Will be going back when driving through, but from me its a couple hundred miles, so it wont be all that often.
