I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I guess I would like to consider myself some what of a regular, My wife and I try to go here once a week if we can.
The atmosphere fits in with the whole town of Alpine, has a down home feel and is very relaxed. Breweriana fills the walls, and they use other craft brewers empty 6'ers for sauce holders.
The quality of the beer is already well known, with beers like Hoppy Birthday, Pure Hoppiness, Expo, Ugly, Bad Boy, Duet, Nelson, Ichabod, Great, the list goes on. My wife loves the beer mixes.
The Service is outstanding, everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. Its a great place to bring people that you want to introduce to craft beer, they will not get turned off by snobby attitudes and rudeness like so many places.
Already touched on the selection. Don't go here if you are looking for something other then Alpine beers.
The food is reasonably priced and good quality. Its BBQ, menu selection consists of pulled pork, sausage, beef brisket, ribs, salad. The sweet potato fries are great.
Drink Alpine or go to bed.

The pub and the brewery are adjacent so you won't see one without being close to the other. However, if you want to get growlers and/or bottles to go make sure you arrive within the hours that the brewery is open. The pub has a small amount of bottles, but not nearly as many as the brewery room. Note: a 4 bottle per person per day limit is currently in place due to people who own retail liquor stores coming and buying Alpine via retail and then selling it retail--which is illegal. To them--thanks for ruining it for us.
I won't spend time on Alpine's beers because if you're reading this you probably know how amazing they are. I will spend time talking up the amazing servers in the pub and the insanely cheap prices for the quality of the beer. Food prices are reasonable and the food is very good and mainly of the BBQ style. The bathroom is outside in a separated building, which adds to the allure.
In the pub you can get 1oz samples, 5oz pours, 10oz tulips or a pint. I loved this approach because it lets you try a lot of things without drinking so much that you're unable to drive out of there. We visited on St. Patty's day and it was pouring rain, but was still a great time. I would definitely come back anytime I'm in the SD area. It's only like 25min or.

Alpine makes the best IPAs in the world. Its definetly worth the trip to fill growlers and or have a meal in the BBQ house that is now attached. Some of my favorites are: Duet, Nelson, Pure Hoppiness, Exponential Hoppiness, Bad Boy, actually just try them all..

Alpine has become my favorite brewery to visit in Southern California.
Alpine is tucked away in the mountains east of San Diego, a bit of a drive for most anyone, 2 hours for me, but worth it. The pub is nice enough on the inside with some cool old photos on the wall and cheesy pub tacks.
The beer here is incredible, and cheap. If you like IPAs you must come here. A pint of fresh Nelson is just so good. They will often have some rarities on tap as well. I have stopped in for a few glasses of great before. There is always good selection of their beer.
The service is really phenomenal. The bar tenders are very willing to shoot the shit with you and talk beer. They know what they are talking about, and I would have no problem drinking here alone just talking with them and strangers, if I did not have 4 hours round trip in the car by myself. The food is very good as well. good BBQ fare with some interesting things thrown in as well.
Really a must stop for anyone in San Diego, I even take visitors from OC.

What can I say that others have not already said below?
The pub is awesome. Great people, great food and as always great beer. Yes it is not very big but that just means you have to get there earlier. They sell bottles of Alpine to go right in the pub. The bqq/food and everything else on the menu is very good. I love seeing tourists get a flight of Alpine beer. Every sip they take they usually love every beer.
This place is worth checking out. Just get there at a good time to get a table. Weekends are very busy. Busy means that they are doing something right.

This was my must stop on my way to San Diego.
Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Drank some tasters before just settling down with some Duet from tap and talked to the locals.
Great local vibe and incredible IPA's. Bottles to go were for sale (2 per kind, per person). I walked aways with quite a bit of Duet and Pure Hoppiness. On my way back out of town i stopped in again and grabbed a few Nelson.
Well worth the little detour out of the city if you like awesome IPA's.

After hearing so many great things about Alpine and being lucky enough to try a few of their beers at tastings, this was something I was looking forward to. I was still impressed, as although I like a little more balance to my IPA's in general than most west coast folk, the IPAs here were some of the best I ever had. I only wish I had a chance to try all of their rare releases that I haven't at tastings. The taproom was plenty full for a place that seemed to be more of an outpost and the service didn't suffer that much. Make no mistake, this is not just a business venture here, they are passionate about beer. I would gladly visit again if I ever get the chance.

I love this place and I am not even a big IPA fan. The beers speak for themselves...no one can dispute that ABC makes some pretty incredible beers. From Exponential Hoppiness, to Captain Stout, to Odin's Raven to the mother of all beers...GREAT--the best barrel aged barley wine I have ever had.
The food here is BBQ. Don't expect to come here for a wrap or sushi or anything healthy. This place makes a killer Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich and beer battered onion rings.
The bartenders are awesome and incredibly knowledgable about beer. They are friendly and quick to serve you some of the finest beer in SD County.
It does get pretty busy on Friday nights and on weekends. It is a small joint that can hold maybe 40 people tops. So have patience and head down to the brewery about 50 feet to the west if your table isn't ready right away.

Date of visit, 01-15-2011.
This was my second visit to this excellent Brewpub/Brewery in Alpine, Ca. First was back in Nov. 2010. I really enjoy this small mom-n-pop type brewpub. It is a 2 hour drive from Huntington Beach. A good day trip to combine with other fine breweries in the North San Diego or North San Diego area.
On this visit we had the opportunity to try Expo Hoppiness 09. Other Alpine beers available that we had was Duet & Pure. I was hoping for Bad Boy on this visit. But they were out. I was lucky enough to have some on my first visit. For lunch we had the BBQ ribs dinner and the Brisket dinner with 4 sides. Between the 4 of us eating and drinking we had leftovers. The food was exceptional. The only thing I did not like was the potato salad. It tasted like it came from Albertson's. But the ribs and brisket was to die for. The meat would just fall apart. My first visit I had the brisket sandwich. Also very good. Next to Beachwood BBQ, this is my favorite. The selection is nothing campared to Beachwood or other places I've been to. But the quality and quantity was above all. All food were served on paper plates and plastic utinsels. The brewpub is very small. No room for dishwasher, so they have to serve with the basics. No complants there as long as the food is good. We left out of there and walked 50 feet or so to the brewery to purchase some bottles and a growler fill.
I put down $-inexpensive because I thought for the quality versus price was worth it. It could be $$. Beer? For those lucky enough to have tried any beer from Alpine knows that they are all great beer. And when you can get one of those thats not bottled its even better.

Alpine had Nelson, Pure Hopiness, Magnificent 7, and Duet on tap when I arrived. They were some of the best IPA's I've ever had the pleasure in drinking. Between how fresh the beers were and the atmosphere of being secluded in the mountains around random people are some if the nicest and most inviting people you'd ever meet, I recommend for everyone to try to make it here! Their grilled cheese is spectacular as well!
