A - Clear straw with a quarter inch of white fizzy foam.

S - Nose is a bit chalky with lemony candy.

T - Crisp, lemony hops. Tinge of husky grain and a light lingering bitterness in the aftertaste.

M - Sharp carbonation with a light body.

D - Lacks depth and isn't terribly tasty, but I suppose it would be fine for quaffing whilst sitting on a dock on a hot day or somesuch. Easy drinking anyway.

On tap at Stone Soup, Landrum, SC

I tend to favor local beers whenever I get the chance; TC definitely qualifies as a local brewery for me. This one is solid, for sure. It does sit there looking a bit ho-hum in the glass (nervous glance around at neighboring tables -- might they think I'm drinking macro US watery stuff???), but once it hits the nose there's no doubt that we're talking a real pilsner here. Great balance of malt and bitterness. Not at all over the top, but solidly holds its own. Try with creamy pasta dishes or shellfish. Nice one.

This beer pours golden color with a slight cloudiness to it with a small head that fades quickly. The nose gives off mildly sweet malt, some barley, with hints of hops. The beer tastes very crisp and clean with a slight citrus hint. Not a great beer, but much better than its mass produced counter parts. Good summer time beer.

A: 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Crystal clear, light amber in color with a thumb wide head.

S: Smell is a little lacking, nice citrus smell with a hint of maybe wine grape.

T: Taste follows the nose with a bready front followed by the citrus and a very faint wine grape taste. Small hop presence but still very noticeable.

M: Light body with an extreme amount of carbonation.

O: Not very complex by any means but a very great beer to enjoy in larger quantities on a hot day.

12 ounce bottle -> World Market Pilsner Flute Glass

This beer pours up a very pale clear straw with a one finger head, a small retention ring, and minimal lacing. The smell is very grassy. Might be some pine too, but I mostly get grasses. Taste is very mild. Mostly malt and not much on the hops side. Mouthfeel is kind of thin and watery although there is adequate carbonation. Not bad, but certainly unremarkable.

Fills an antique pilsner with a clear, golden straw and thin white head that quickly dissipates despite streaming carbonation from within.

Grainy malt with some wet cardboard and lacking a crisp hop presence.

The flavor is reminiscent of grainy straw. Malt is present, though hops are not. The finish is mild.

Medium body and astringent with decent carbonation.

Somewhat refreshing and probably an easy-going lawnmower beer. It may be unfair to have sampled this on a cold February day. Regardless, it could use some fine tuning.

I am thankful for this gift and, overall, it is reminiscent of a retro 1970s summer beer.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pilsner glass. Had a pale yellow color and a clear consistency. There was an inch of foamy, fairly, long-lasting head. Great lacing.

S: A decent aroma of malt, citrus, and hops.

T: Tasted of mild hops, malt, and a hint of lemon. Like all pilsners, this one won't win any prizes for originality or complexity, but it is smooth and easy to drink.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a somewhat slick, oily finish. Light-bodied.

O: On the whole, decent beer. If you're insistent on drinking a pilsner, drink something like this.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a standard shaker pint glass.

Beer pours a bright, clear golden color with a thin, wispy layer of white head. Pretty average looking pilsener.

Smell is somewhat underwhelming. It's grassy with some bready malts and a hint of lemon. The taste is quite similar. The lemon is more upfront in the taste. It's refreshing, but drowns out the traditional pilsener tastes.

Mouthfeel is light and slightly under carbonated.

Overall, a decent pilsener. Not one I would seek out, but it did hit the spot sitting on a balcony overlooking the ocean in South Carolina.

My neighbor brought pack some Tommy Creek Pilsner from his recent trip to SC. I thought the beer was quite good....better than the C+ average currently ranked on BA> The color was clear and golden...decent carbonation that gave a thin white head. The smell was typical of most pilsners and nothing beyond notable. The taste was a very good balance pilsner with hop, malt and barley. The mouthfeel was quite nice...very easy on the pallet and definitly a decent beer to session with.

Picked this up while visiting Greenville, SC. I'm not sure how widely it is distributred but I never saw it in PA.
Pours nice enough. Bright gold minimal head and lacing. Crystal clear.
Smell is dull lemons, not much there.
Taste is the same as the smell with a very small amount of bitterness in the finish.
MO- This is a good enough beer for a summer quencher nothing great but not bad.

Served from bottle into a Grolsch Pilsner. Poured a slightly opaque golden yellow with a half finger pure white head. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of earthy malt, dirt, and earthy hops. The flavor was of earthy malt, sweet malt, and earthy hops. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was not a bad Pilsner. Definitely a huge earthy aspect going on in this one. Enjoyed this one while out enjoying the warm weather and it beat the Hell out of sitting down to a yellow fizzy beer. This one is worth trying if you are a fan of earthy brews.

from bottle bought at Whole Foods in Birmingham poured into a pint glass

a: Yellow gold, clear as can be. You can see right through the beer, which is what I am looking for in a pilsner. head forms quickly then goes away to almost nothing but a wisp around the glass edge.

s: Grassy notes, from the hops plus a slight grain aroma. Nothing amazing. After swirling it around I get a slight lemon aroma but then it goes away.

t: Again nothing great or amazing, just a good drinking pilsner. I get a very heavy bready malt flavor that quickly goes away in the finish.

m: light, low carbonation

d: easy drinking on a hot summer day.

Radiant goldenrod with sun-faded lemon edges and numerous streams of racing bubbles. A good looking chunk of cue ball colored cream was created on the pour and is beginning to leave several scraps of sea foam lace. Impressive residue in the end earns even more respect.

The aroma is reflective of the (typical for the style) ingredients. Pale and pils malt don't contribute much... while Hallertauer, Perle and Tettnanger hops add a grassy spiciness that is enjoyable enough to squeak out the above-average score.

Dockside Pilsner is a solid stateside version. This must be a fairly fresh bottle (TCB just started distributing to Iowa) because 26 IBUs seems low. There's a moderate push of bitterness at mid-mouthful that is sustained to and through the semi-crisp finish. Love those biting German hops.

Lightly sweet and untoasted cereal grains provide a sturdy base (relative to the ABV), upon which reside bitter grasses and hints of lemon zest. There's a very slight off-flavor that keeps my enthusiasm in check, but identifying it isn't proving to be easy. Maybe just a less than tidy yeast strain.

Along with the look, mouthfeel is a highlight. DP is more full and more creamy than the vast majority of 4.5% ales and lagers. It also has bubbles that contribute exactly the right amount of mouth energy (high end).

In my still somewhat limited experience, Thomas Creek brews average to above-average craft beer. Dockside Pilsner, even though the scores won't be higher, might be the best of the lot so far. I'm looking forward to seeing what else this outfit has up its sleeve.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and poured with a finger high bright white head that quickly faded away and left a ringer of bubbles around the edge of the glass. A light amount of carbonation is visible.
S: There are aromas of bready malts and grassy hops in the nose, as well as some notes of lemons. The smell is rather strong and is noticeable in the adjacent room.
T: The overall taste is dominated by flavors of bready and grainy malts. There are some hints of bitterness from the hops in the finish.
M: It feels light-bodied and smooth on the palate and has a low amount of carbonation.
D: The beer isn't that difficult to drink and tastes like it would be a very refreshing choice in the summer months.

Aroma is crisp, malty, slightly fruity and inviting. It pours a clear straw yellow - not inspiring to me, but about average for a pilsner; head is thick, white, fluffy and fairly persistent. Flavor is typical of a pilsner, malty, slightly fruity and not complex. Texture is smooth and tingly, good if typical. Nice, but I guess a pilsner lover will appreciate it more.

Soft, light malt aroma and flavor. Dry aftertaste although it is short lasting. Light gold color and clear. Modest head but it does leave good sipping circles of lace. Light pale malt and flowery hop aromas. The taste matches the smell. Overall, this is one of the better pilsners I've had made in America. If you like this style, seek this one out.

Pale a very clear lemony yellow with big 2-finger head. Decent carbonation and head retention. Laces well.

Very faint lemons are all that is present to the nose. Not bad for the style, but the nose just really isn't there.

Nothing on the initial hit. Finally on the very tail end I pick up a little bread body, pepper, and some lemon in the finish.

Feel is a little thin for the style.

Not a great drinker by any means, but would probably be good on a very hot day. Faint praise.

Appearance - Pours an awesome golden yellow color with a nice white head that compliments the beer well. The head also didn't appear until later in the pour.

Smell - Smells of hops and citrus with a thrid scent lurking.

Taste - Grains and hops are apparent as well as a slight fruit taste. I also taste a slight doughy-ness but it could be something else I just can't put my finger on.

Mouthfeel - Lighter pilsner style which I actually enjoy. It also has a strong sort of bitter finish.

Drinkability - Not a favorite of the style but I would definitely reach for it again. The taste is just interesting enough to make you wanna come back for more.

12 oz. Nice looking gold pour, minimal white head. Subdued aroma of biscuit and citrus, some hop. A bit musty actually. Pilsner Urquel-esque flavors. Some malt, some citrus, some pepper like spice and piney hops. Finish pretty clean and reasonable drinkability. Could have used a little more malt sweetness, but still not bad.

I have tried a few Thomas Creek brews with mixed results.Poured into a pilsner aclear straw color with a nice crowned white head atop leaving broken lace behind as it settled slowly.Lighter aromas of toasted grain with a bit of bread dough,a hint of peppery/spicey hop as well.Prickly and thin in the mouth at first it gets a little better after a few drinks but is still off,flavors arent bad with notes of lightly sweet pizza dough and a tad of honey as well with a crisp finish.I dont think its as bad as most everyone else but its pretty average.

The aroma is malty and grassy with a touch of corn and vegetables. The appearance is pale gold with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin but smooth. Overall it's not a bad beer but it's not a good one either. This is just what I was expecting so my hopes were not let down.

From bottle to pint glass at the Kingsport Grocery...

Looks more honey-colored than a true Pilsener - not unattractive but not quite to style

Lots of raw malt and mild Saaz hops. I usually steer clear of Pilseners because the Saaz really doesn't do it for me but I could actually use more here

Again, we actually need a little more Pilsener flavor-hops are way too mild - missing that bitter Saaz sting. The malt is more natural and raw, which is interesting.

This feels a little more sour than you would expect - there is a little more fruit than necessary - not sure where it's coming from. Finish is tight from a sort of spoiled citrus

Aside from all that it actually drinks pretty well - a little heartier than your average Pilsener but it'll play

Long day of work in the grain fields... A bunch of straw-hat clad chaps under a clear sky full of puffy white clouds.
"Why yes, thank you. You know I've heard that Pilsner is better for a dehydrated fellow than Water?"
"I doubt that, but think what you want."
A bit too watery, really, a bit to clear. Head retention is rather poor even with the constant bubbling.
A hint of grain husk and some white grape, a flash down the throat, and it's gone, leaving only slightly sour breath behind. Hops are rather wet-cardboardish.
Really it's not a bad pilsner, just not a good one. All the flavors are there, just not quite as well-done as one would hope.
Thomas Creek clearly has the skills. I've had a couple of their offerings that were terrific. This one just needs a bit of work.

Bottle thanks to Joe, listed as Dockside Pilsner. Pours a crystal clear golden color with a small white head. A nice citrus aroma, some honey and light malt notes also. The taste is very smooth and nice; sweet honey, smooth citrus and a very light bitter hop bite in the finish. A light earthy malt throughout. Refreshing and very quaffable.
