Sampled 5/21/2011 at the brewery.
Pours clearish dark brown, some beige head, good retention, but not much lacing.
Aroma is chocolate, pine, a bit of old hops, and some roast. A bit too sweet for a "traditional" black IPA.
Flavor makes me think of an overhopped homebrewed roasty brown ale. There is some pine flavor and a bit of fishfood/old hop flavor, a hefty dose of roast and chocolate, and followed up by some nutty candy. Medium bitterness. Interesting.
Body is medium, carbonation is good. Somewhat drinkable and smooth but not my favorite.
