Appearance- Pours a jet black with one and half fingers of creamy mocha head.

Smell- coffee bean, dark chocolate/cocoa, roasted malts.

Taste- Roasted malts and coffee bean, with hints of the dark chocolate. Coffee flavour is not as strong as in the smell, but very nice.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation.

Overall- A well executed coffee stout Coronado Brewing. The taste leans towards a bitter cup of black coffee as opposed to a sugary mocha latte. A smoother, creamier body could make this stout even more special.

Pours a dark kola hue with a fast vanishing one finger head and sporadic lacing, the smell is strong coffee with tobacco and port, the mouthfeel is light bodied and over carbonated with tastes of chocolate, coffee, tobacco and finished with a roasted malty sweetness and overall it's average and would not buy again cheers.

Poured slightly chilled into snifter.

Pours a deep rich brown, so dark as to be black color with half an inch of light brown head that quickly recedes leaving light surface layer and lacing.

Aromas of bitter coffee and ashy smoke.

Very strong flavors of bitter coffee and smoke.

Light bodied for the style with light carbonation and lingering aftertaste.

Overall a decent beer but a little to light in body and a little to heavy in smoky flavor for me. Add some oats or malto dextrin and you've got yourself a better beer.

Pours black with a small head.
Nose shows slightly stale burnt coffee and little else.
Flavours are pretty much the same, just stale coffee grounds. Not even much roasted malt character.
Needs a thicker body and creamier carbonation.
Not great...

22oz bomber into my FW Snifter glass
*Notes taken on 04/07/13

A: Color is dark black, like jet black, with just a slight walnut brown edge to it. Not incredibly thick on the pour at all. Thin layer of low retaining oatmeal colored head formed. Some random dots and squiggles of lace cling to the glass after each sip.

S: Smells of freshly brewed java with some dark roast grains, dark chocolates, and a light smoky charcoal. Pretty nice and somewhat coffee forward. The roast barley is expressive and there is a little bit of earthy hops on the nose as well.

T: Nice roasty flavors with some mild shade grown coffee accentuated. Dark grains, roast barley, and a touch of charcoal. Restrained chocolate notes are much less evident than the nose. There is a light earthy hop bitterness to the brew and no real alcohol flavors coming through. Finishes with a minor sharpness but not at all distracting from the enjoyment. Approachable stout. Not all that intense on the coffee flavors but nicely balanced none the less.

M: A much lighter body and thin feel. Not very viscous at all. Watery even at times but with a smooth frothy consistency. Not very dry either with an overall wet feel and finish.

D: Definitely more of a sessionable table stout. Coffee flavors are nice but not particularly robust. Mouthfeel is somewhat of a letdown for me. Would have this again on tap or Nitro even would be nice.

Pours a full on black, medium brown head, small finger of head, little lace. Coffee aroma, full blown. Smells like just-brewed coffee. It may be a little one note, or just over dominated by coffee, but its delicious. Also quite coffee in the taste, mild astringency, roasted malts too and some sweetness/chocolate. Body is medium I'd say, dry.

Dominated by coffee. A little one note, but the coffee does make it a guilty pleasure.

Poured into a Hardywood tulip from a 22 oz. bomber.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with about 1 1/2 fingers of tan head. In the glass, the beer looks absolutely black unless you hold it up to direct light, then you get a slight brown around the edges and bottom. Great looking beer!

Smell: COFFEE! This reminds me of some of the great east coast coffee stouts I've had. You get just a touch of dark chocolates, roasted malt, and a slight sweet smell I can't quite place, but did I mention COFFEE!

Taste: Again, coffee dominates, but you get the dark chocolates, some burnt malt bitterness, and a little sweetness that almost seems like lactose. I'm wondering if this beer is classified correctly, because it tastes very similar to several beers that I have had that were stylized as milk/sweet stouts. Regardless, this is a quality brew that delivers great coffee stout taste!

Mouthfeel: WAY too much carbonation for the style! The beer would be top tier if it didn't have so much carbonation. Makes the whole experience taste a little too watered down!

Overall: I really enjoyed this brew, but if they got the carbonation under control, this could be world class IMO!

Dark, dark brew. Came out with a 'glug-glug-glug'. Satiny tan head created a short collar. Not much lacing, at all.

Coffee with sugar, roast, and vanilla. Hints of a dark fruitiness. Mostly coffee, though.

Huge coffee and stouty roast flavors. Malt bitterness is mellow. Lots of dark maltiness pours through. Notes of vanilla, meat char, bing cherry, and a lot of roast. Enough to cut through most of the sweetness.

Drinks easily. Medium body and a spattering of carbonation.

A very tasty and quality coffee makes this beer. Earthy and dark-roasted. I like it.

Clear near black colored ale with a small brown colored head.

Smell strongly of coffee and coffee. Did I mention this has a strong coffee aroma? Some patent malt and chocolate but this really smells like coffee.

Starts out with a mineral water and coffee taste. Mild coffee flavor and slightly sweet and that is about it.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall just a regular coffee beer.

Coronado Brewing Company : Blue Bridge Coffee Stout
Brewed with San Diego roasted coffee beans.

LOOK: Pours a oily, dark brown with a chocolatey looking foam topping. Leaves behind some lace on the glass.

SMELL: Black coffee, roasted malts, cocoa.

TASTE: Dark malts, lots of charcoal and coffee. Definitely an eye opener, with lots of bitter dry coffee. Hops certainly may be contributing to this bitterness with a small earthy note, but this is all about the coffee. It's a bit mild but pretty decent tasting.

OVERALL: A sessionable pick me up stout with agreeable flavor, but I found it a bit thin and watery. It's not bad, Id get it again someday.

Pours a very dark brown color with a sizable tan head, looks nice.

Aromas are of brewed coffee and light cream. A bit nutty as well.

Taste is coffee forward, with some light creamy sweetness, dark roasted malts and nut flavors. Finish is dry, with light mineral hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light, but not overly so, smooth as well.

Overall, nice easy drinking straightforward coffee stout. A solid offering from Coronado.

Pours a solid three fingers of very dark brown foam, while frothy with many larger bubbles the retention is credible and long lasting, the lacing comes in fairly thick streaks but this tends to slide away swiftly. At first glance the liquid seems black but it is likely the darkest shade of brown possible, completely opaque, no visible bubbles, no hint of other coloration at the rims. The nose is quite roasty with a heavy emphasis on the coffee, quite milky too, black fruits and raisins, oatmeal and other sweeter baking grains, splash of mineral water, overall it’s not that sugary but likewise it does not have a noticeable hoppy charge to it either. Full-bodied, dense and reluctant to move freely, it has a strong drying effect on the mouth, to the point where it impairs the flavors. Coffee, powdered dark chocolate and a hint of molasses yet no core of sweetness, the plum, cherry fruit diminished and no citric nor floral element. The minor doughy breadiness helps. Carbonation is low but not absent. Some chicory notes at the end. Smooth but the dustiness adds to its lack of flow and slightly dilute ending. Not horrible but nothing I would purchase a second time.

22oz bottle into a snifter. Pours a deep chocolate brown w/ a crackling mocha head that settles to a thin film.

Aroma is bitter roasted coffee, a little astringent. Dry chocolate, acidic roasted malt and oily coffee beans.

Taste is strong bitter espresso, graham crackers, dark fruit and spice. Some vanilla in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is on the thin side, light on the palate w/ a dry finish.

Overall a pretty straightforward approach to a coffee stout. Easy to drink and approachable, but nothing particularly extraordinary or unique here.

A - A dense dark beer with no clarity and a 1/4 inch of mocha head that seems to stick around for a bit.

S +T - Smell is rather roasty like a less harsh breakfast stout, vanilla, espresso, and coffee roast highlight. Taste i pretty balance blend of malt, coffee roast and sweet vanilla malt.

M - Body is spot on for the ABV it's medium, kind of chewy, and great tasting!

Overall I am not wow'd by this stout but am impressed they made such a balanced coffee stout. Totally worth the $6.50 paid and I would do it again.

Coronado Blue Ridge Coffee Stout pours a deep brown with two fingers of mocha head. The aroma is about what you'd expect from a coffee stout. Coffee and roasted malts. The taste is robustly roasty at first, and that is only doubled by the coffee flavors that present themselves. There's nothing sweet in this stout at all, it's all roast, all the time. Some hops help contribute to the overall bitterness of the beer. It's lacking a little in complexity, but it's tasty. The mouthfeel is light for style and well-carbonated, and the drinkability is good. It's a solid coffee stout.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a 20 oz pub glass and served at 40F. I have to say the last time I had this it was much fresher, would have reviewed it a bit higher...

A - Nicely dark chocolate colored body, but a watery pour that results in a thin khaki bubble ring. Carbonation is tight and lasting though.

S - Nice, roasted coffee with a little alcoholic sweetness.

T - Coffee is indeed the upfront flavor, so kudos for that. But not much complexity behind it. Some malt presence but its so faint its indistinguishable. A little sweet-n-sourness also, rye and raisinlike.

M - Really watery initially, but it picks up mid-palate thanks to the carbonation. Leaves a burnt tasting aftertaste that is off-putting however.

O - A decent offering with room for improvement. Having it on nitro would improve it tremendously I feel...

Got my hands on some yesterday.

I'm not impressed with this.

When I pour a stout I expect -- no, I demand -- a dense creamy head. I want a mustache from drinking it. If it can't support a pencil upright we've already started off on the wrong foot. I ended what started as a conservative pour with an aggressive dump at the end to try to generate some head. No dice. The 1 mm head quickly reverted to zero. OK -- disappointed, but we don't drink for the head, right? So we move on...

The best part of this beer was the nose, but even then it lacked complexity. I got the coffee, sure, and some sweet roasty malt but that was pretty much it. I would categorize the smell as "thin." Good... but thin. My hopes were still optimistic.

The flavor was a let-down. It was not bad at all -- drinkable and tasty and smooth -- but lacked the stout toasted malt I so crave in this type. The coffee flavor was distinct but not over-powering -- good -- but there was no "stoutiness" to this drink. I expect an earthiness that just wasn't there.

Same with the mouth-feel. In a word: watery. None of it stuck around for flavor development. Swallowed and forgotten. A little of the coffee lingered but that was it.

Overall, there is nothing wrong with Coronado Blue Ridge Coffee Stout. I would blame the name more than anything else. In fact, right under the name it says, ALE BREWED WITH COFFEE. There you have it folks: ale. That jives with my take.

650ml bottle, 5.4% ABV. Man, the coffee-infused beers are coming out hard and fast as of late.

This beer pours a solid, abyssal black, with ever the slightest of basal bronze highlights, and three imposing fingers of puffy, densely foamy mocha head, which leaves some nicely consistent, loose chain cog pattern lace around the glass as it slowly and evenly abates.

It smells of somewhat bitter, dry roasted coffee beans, baker's chocolate, lightly toasted bready malt, rather dry salted caramel, and some earthy, mildly herbal hops. The taste is quite similar, but more rounded - bolder medium sweet cocoa, fuller, softer coffee grounds, a still struggling grainy caramel malt, some clammy black licorice notes, a touch of charcoal, and very faint hints of a earthy hop bitterness.

The carbonation is pretty average, and good at it, the body medium-light in weight, with a rather dry edginess, which is cold coffee all the way, and makes smoothness a hard sell here. It finishes just a tad off-dry, the plaintive wails of the caramel/toffee malt gaining a now surprising tenor, as the bitter coffee and chalky cocoa sit back and light a cigar by the fire.

A moderately dry Yankee stout, for those caffeine freaks out there - you can certainly taste the guest ingredient in this one. I have to give credit, however, for as strong as the coffee initially seems, there's enough else going on to keep the rest of us non-users and non-early risers happy.

650ml bottle poured into tulip 17/1/13

A black liquid with a deep cola edge, thumbs width of mocha foam that falls after a few sips leaving lots of random lace behind

S faint smoke and strong coffee, smells like cold rinds with some milk chocolate, a little char and hard toffee

T more of the same really, cold dark roasted coffee with a little char, decent but simple

M quite light for the color, lots of bubbles with a bitter sweet coffee finish

O pretty straightforward coffee stout, coffee's strong as advertised and its easy to drink

Appearance- pours opaque black with 2 fingers of brown head slight lacing.

Aroma- Coffee plum anise earthy with a hint of toffee

Taste- smokey to begin with, gives way to a roasty bitter coffee. Has sort of a husky burnt taste with a subdued resin'y finish. Drinks like a cup of office coffee. (It may have been sitting a while, you could make a better cup at home, but you need it to get through the day)

Mouthfeel- A little thin but i like the lingering after taste the hops create ( no coffee breath here)

Overall- this coffee stout is not showing off and not falling behind. The coffee or roasted malt kind of lend a burnt taste to the beer that is a bit off putting. Someone described on here a flavor of cigarettes. I do however like the low alcohol. Coffee is very session-able, why shouldn't coffee stout be ?

Big rich light brown head settles into a nice lacing above a clear super dark brown to black colored beer.

Rich black coffee to coffee grounds aroma with any cream or sugar.

Big black coffee taste with some of the dark roasted malt characteristics coming through nicely.

A dryish after taste with the feel of a creamy bakers chocolate on this full bodied stout.

Dark brown with a nice foamy dark beige head in the glass. Adequate carbonation in the mouth. Rather light weight. Some coffee aroma.

Lots of blackened taste but not much actual malt flavor. A little buttery. Overall this has kind of a "too long in the refrigerator" taste. I'm still not convinced that coffee is the best flavor for beers that are already full of charred tastes. Rather sharp and bordering on acidic. I don't find this either a very good coffee flavor or a stout flavor. But it's quite clean and crisp, and those who like a more bitter Stout may find this to their taste.

It's 5.4% in the bottled version. Bought the 22 oz bottle at Ibis Market in Mission Hills, SD.

This time, Coronado gets the call. From a 22 ounce bottle, on to the beer:

This coffee stout heads in the direction of an ink black color, topped with a mocha-tinted head. Leaving its marks around the glass are healthy doses of lace. You can expect lots of coffee in the aroma. There's mocha and chocolate covered coffee beans and a nice roasty aspect too. There's a theme going on here, and it's coffee, which continues into the taste. The flavor is coffee all the way with a light stout aspect that attempts to catch one's attention. A little mocha makes its case, but this is all coffee. The beer is medium bodied with a very bubbly body, a bit overcarbonated for what I like in a stout. In summary, this is an acceptable coffee beer, one that tastes more like a coffee than a beer.

A - Inpenetrable black, small light tan head, some very spotty lace.

S - Smells like I stuck my nose into my freshly made coffee grinds. EXACTLY like it.

T - Taste has very low malt appeal, very dry and bitter, big on the coffee. Would have liked a little stout with my coffee, but it's pretty good.

M - Good carb, medium body, bitter finish.

D - Not going to be my goto. Might be good over ice cream and chocolate syrup. Mocha, baby.
