Pours a hazy goldenrod color with a frothy white head that leaves chunks of lacing.

Smells of faint wheat with some really light spice notes.

Tastes of light wheat notes with some background notes. Wheat hits first with some twang that is rounded out by some sweetness giving an orangelike feel. Some very faint spice notes come in the end.

Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a mediocre wit and could definitely be improved on.

650ml bottle. Sexy mermaiden schooner-purveyor depicted on the typically well-rendered label for this brewer.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium golden straw hue, with two fingers of moderately puffy, bubbly dirty white heady, which leaves a somewhat low berm of pockmarked landfall lace around the glass as rather quickly abates.

It smells of semi-sweet fruity orange, savoury coriander, grainy wheat and pale malt, very mild lemon, yeast, and traditional banana wit notes. The taste is sweet mandarin orange and lemon citrus zest, middling earthy yeast, grainy, mostly dry wheat malt, banana chips, a touch of neutered clove spiciness, and an earthy, somewhat weedy drying hoppiness. Nothing really honey-like presents itself at any point in this whole affair.

The carbonation is a tad frothy, but generally just a supportive understatement, the body actually a sturdy medium weight for the style, but lacking anything resembling a serious smoothness quotient. It finishes off-dry, the fruity citrus really the star, as the yeast, wheat, and spice blend into a generic swirl of umami which does well by its innocuousness.

A sort of middle-range witbier, one tempered by a straight-up citrus fruit and sweetness, but lacking the edgy yeast and grain characters necessary to provide the expected balance. Of course, this offering somehow finds its way around that particular dichotomy, one which I'm still trying to figure out. So, if you take one thing from all of this, it should be: orange, and all the things that rhyme with it (man, I just can't get away from the 90's alt-rock references tonight. Oh well).

Cloudy yellow colored beer with a good sized white head.

Smells strongly of toasted grain and grass with a mild orange aroma. Strong biscuit malt aroma. Smells like marmalade on shredded wheat cereal.

Starts out mildly sweet with a strong wheat flavor. Strong biscuit malt taste. Faint orange flavor, taste is close to a freshly baked biscuit. Orange doesn't do much here but it is a pretty solid wheat beer.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall good wheat beer, not much orange taste.

22oz. bomber poured into tulip glasses and shared with the wife, poured at 40F.

A - Very similar in appearance to lemon juice, same color and consistency. Slight carbonation, but no real head or ring develops. Meh...

S - Really fragrant. Strong sweet (natural) orange, mandarin orange IMO. Wheat, coriander and fresh grass in the background. Actually smells really appealing.

T - I wish it were a lot bolder in its taste, and the complexity is low. What taste there is though is nice and in keeping with the wit style. There is a lot of orange on the mouth as well, similar to adding a slice of orange or two to a beer. Thats a practice I'm not fond of (why not just drink better beer?), but its the best way to describe this.

M - Really watery, unremarkable but inoffensive. Makes for a very drinkable but not very memorable beer.

O - I'd like to say I enjoyed it more, but it was just alright for me. I wouldn't like to have it very often, but if it was paired up with dinner at someones house I wouldn't be disappointed. Just OK

Serving Type - Bottle

Appearance - Cloudy orange with a 1/2 inch fizzy head, and minor lacing.

Smell - Strong wheat, some orange, corridaner, apple, grape, alittle grainy, yeasty. A little lemon and banana in the finish.

Taste - Wheat up front with some orange peel, corriander, lemon and banana. Rather mellow and bland, Other then the wheat every other flavor are mild and lacking. Nothing stands out really, just the wheat. No alcohol is present.

Mouthfeel - Wheat coats tounge with its grainy flavor. Spices and fruits hit the palate very mildy and add minor flavor. Aftertaste is grainy, bland and dry.

Overall - Nothing special here, very bland and forgetable. Lacks flavor, balance and overal fruity flavors that most of this wits have. Nothing worth drinking again.

Bottle: standard 355mL brown bottle, interesting label.

Appearance: pours a hazy orange colour with a fluffy head that drops fairly quickly to a one-finger off-white.

Aroma: almost an overabundance of wheat, with plenty of citric backing, obviously. The orange smells more of natural orange peel rather than the usually more artificial orange syrup that one sees in many of these types of beers.

Taste: a combination of those strong wheat and orange peel flavours with some lighter spice and bread malt backing. Not unpleasant at all.

Aftertaste: lingers nicely, a hint of citric hop bitterness comes through also. A good, refreshing wit.

Mouth feel: light in body with plenty of carbonation - a very easy drinking beer. The carbonation carries the flavour well without being 'lumpy' like some lagers, for instance.

Overall: this is a pretty good witbier. The addition of the orange doesn't detract from the wheat, as the wheat seems to have been 'turned up' to compensate. Also the non-artificial nature of the orange really impresses.
