Very hazy through a reddish body. Almost makes it look red-brown. A ring of head is holding strong. 3.5
Toasted caramel malts and bright grapefruit hops. Lightly salty. 3.5
Toasty with an acridity. Citrus hops are more muted than expected. Rinds and pith and a heap of bitterness. Seawater in the backend. Maybe chlorinated water. It had a watermelon vibe to it in past years, but that's not here now. 3.5
Drinks with a wet slickness. Salinity is appealing, but otherwise a bit mouth-drying. Carb is just medium. 3.5
A salty red ale for warm weather. Not bad. 3.5

I thoroughly enjoyed this beer, especially considering I am not a big fan of red ales. This, Fixed Gear by Lakefront in Milwaukee, and Fat Tire are about the only reds I care for, but this one is the best out of the three in my opinion. If I saw this at a bar, I would definitely pick it up as a change of pace to my normal IPA, hefeweizen, and porter preference.

Pint On Tap at Bills Pizza Palm Springs CA for 2$ during happy hour
Appearance - Slightly hazy amber/copper colour with a large size fizzy/frothy beige head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some good lacing. The head lasted for over 5 minutes.
Smell - Malts, caramel, hops
Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel, grapefruit, and hops. There is also a touch of dark fruits. It ends with a sweet hoppy aftertaste,
Overall - Really surprised by this one. It was pretty hoppy and the flavours were really vibrant. I could taste quality ingredients and I was finished my glass before I knew it. Based on the reviews - perhaps this beer is better on tap. It really tasted a lot like Stone's Levitation.

M-Creamy and heavy feel. Lots of carbonation.

Had on tap at the Fish Market in San Diego.
A: Pours a medium red amber with a medium off-white head, minimal lacing.
S: Nothing overpowering here. Some malt and sweetness from the caramel.
T: Very malts, but felt like this one was missing something, The malts lacked more sweetness or hops to back them up. Almost felt a skunky taste coming from this.
M: Medium-bodied, fairly smooth, has a creaminess to it, medium carbonation.
O: Was very underwhelmed with this. Tried many great beers on my trip to San Diego, this was not one of them though.

Had on tap at Yard House in San Diego.
Beer pours a nice, rich ruby color with about a finger and half or so of white, foamy head. The head lingers throughout.
The beer smells a bit like raisins.
The beer tastes initially very sweet of raisins and figs, followed by a good amount of a hoppy finish.
Slightly thin mouthfeel.
Overall a solid red ale.

14th Review – from notes
On-tap into pint glass at House of Beer (Orlando, FL)
L: Dark maroon and 0.5 fingernail head.
S: Fruity and sweet with slight hint of malts. Nothing special here.
T: Over-bearing fig and plum taste somewhat balanced by slight bitterness. Not what I was expecting from this red ale; however, it was not bad either.
M: Rough up-front, yet balanced on the back-end. Quite weird, yet unpleasant at the same time.
O: As mentioned previously, not what I was expecting from this beer. Almost drank like a quad with a bit of funk – cannot say that I will seek out to return to this beer.

Presentation: Poured into a pint glass from a tap at The Five Points Brewing Co., San Diego, CA. by Clint Stromberg the owner.
A: Reddish amber color with a nice fluffly light tan head and moderate lacing.
S: Moslty malty smells with a decent amount of underlying floral hop scent.
T&M: Crisp, yet smooth. Well-balanced with toasted caramel malts and substantial hop flavors throughout. Mild chocolate sweetness, and citrus hops are balanced throughout. Medium bodied.
WAY BETTER on tap than in the bottle. The smoothness was unparalleled. I have never had a beer this fresh and easy to drink.

Draft to plastic cup
@ Hilton Mission Valley SD
App- A lighter reddish brown with a two finger puffy head. Great cling even in a plastic cup.
Smell- Smells like a bigger American Adjunct. Not too fresh missing the hops & malts.
Taste- Very malty in taste but didnt have any carry from the aromatics. It was soft and almost spicy but still carried a bit too much adjunct for me.
Mouth- Medium bodied and medium carbonated. Left a bit of the malt flavor.
Drink- Damn, I have had high hopes for coronado. So far have been a bit let down. Won't come back to this one.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ,
A: Pours a medium red amber with a medium off-white head, average to good retention, some lace.
S: Not particularly fragrant, red malt, sugar.
T: This one goes to the malty end of the spectrum. For San Diego County a little surprising. Sweet crystal malt flavour dominates with a mild citrus hop backing it.
M: Medium-bodied, fairly smooth, has a creaminess to it, medium carbonation.
D: Solid brewpub red, the bomber prices are a little much for what you get, but something to revisit on-tap at the source.

Pours a clean orange-ish to amber color with an off white head. In the aroma, small malt and citrus like hops. In the taste, sweet malt with a nice faint citrus hop. A small hop bite and medium to light bodied mouthfeel, with a semi dry small hop in the aftertaste. Like a mellow IPA, quite nice.

Pours a dark orange in color, some lace too. Smells of floral hops. Taste is west coast citrus hops on a nutty, caramel malt body. Good amount of hop flavor and bitterness. Very smooth mouthfeel and above average drinkability. My favorite beer from Coronado that I have tried.

another gem i found on tap at barleys last night, they had like evrything coronado on, lol. poured into a pint glass and consumed on 08/14/2010,
What a nice rich looking pour. Nice dark amber with a heavy leaning towards a reddish tint for sure. Nice head of off white comes up about an inch or so before it falls but leaves a good amount of lacing on the sides and bottom.
Aroma is nice piney hops right up front, smooth, balanced with a heavy dose of caramel malts and a nice bready tone to it. Warming brings ou a stickiness and a smooth an even carbonation lends to the palate quite nicely. Even the rich piney nose carried over to the taste as it was a nice and subtle balance between that and the breadiness that really worked quite well i have to admit. nice and light i was able to put this one down in no time.
overall a very solid and very sessionable offering from coronado, worked wonders on me.

On-tap at Tyler's in Apex served in a free Coronado pint glass a crisp dark red with a nice frothy light tan head that slowly diminishes to a thin layer and leaves great lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet malts and a touch of hops. The taste is loads of sweet malts with a nice earthy hop backbone that leaves an interesting bitterness on the tongue. The beer is light crisp and smooth with decent coronation. This is an interesting amber, one at least worth trying.

Appearance: dark amber in color with a 2" head that lasts awhile. Moderate lace paints the glass.
Smell: caramel and a hint of roasted malt is easily detectable.
Taste: caramel, bready malt profile, a bit of citrus, and a light toasted tones creates a nice flavor. Bitterness is mild but nicely balancing.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Smooth from start to finish. Short aftertaste.
Drinkability: an easy drinking red ale that hits the spot when you want the style. Worthy of a try.

On-tap at 5 Points
A: The pour is amber in color with a finger or so worth of off-white head.
S: Fairly malt forward, primarily caramel malts with a hint of toasted bread. The hops are there, but in the background and are floral with a hint of citrus.
T: Some caramel, toffee, and perhaps even a bit of chocolate to go along with the bread. The hop bitterness is somewhat minimal, and there is only a light citrus note to the beer.
M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation to it.
D: I prefer my ambers/reds to be a bit more hop forward, but this wasn't too bad. Easy enough to drink and nothing bad to say about it.

Had on tap at the Galaxy Hut in Arlington, VA.
a - Pours an amber red color with 1 inch of off white head and no carbonation.
s - Smell is faded grain or bready malts; it is almost non existent.
t - Tastes of light hops and bready malts.
m - Medium body and no carbonation, very smooth and easy to drink.
d - An ok red ale. Very easy to drink but not much in the smell or taste. Wouldn't look to have again.

On-tap at the Yardhouse in downtown San Diego.
Pours a clear dark amber color with a one-finger tan head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving decent lacing.
Smells of grainy caramel malts with hints of toastiness. Also present are good amounts of citrus and floral hop aromas.
Tastes similar to how it smells. Caramel malt flavors with very light hints of toffee kick things off. Midway through the sip mild amounts of light citrus hop flavors enter into things along with an earthy bitterness that carries through to a crisp ending.
Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with moderate carbonation.
Drinkability is OK. I didn't have a problem finishing my glass however I'm not too sure about another.
Overall there was nothing that really stood out about this beer, good or bad. Not worth avoiding but not worth seeking out.

Slightly unusual, and really, really, good -- a deep and solid from the ground-up bitterness, which manages to be interesting and satisfying, and extremely refreshing. Part of the refreshing character is due to the strong and fine carbonation, unlike any other beer I've tried.

Pint at Richmond's Bar and Grill last night for five dollars, glad to see a Coronado made it into my hometown spot, color is medium to dark red with some highlights around the rim, one inch slightly off white head, decent retention, some lacing at first, aroma consists of caramel malt, some hops, toasty malts, lemon, pine, earthiness, and toffee, flavor starts off with dry hops that are a little grassy, some toasted and chewy malts in the middle which turns into sweeter and more rounded caramel later on, finish is also dry and full of hops, fair amount of citrus in there once it warmed, dry, earthy and malty mouthfeel, medium bodied, moderate amount of carbonation, could drink another pint of this but it is a little heavy at times, not as smooth for this style than others, can sweeten up a bit as it warms up too, malt loses its toastiness, nice hop profile for an amber, cool to see that bottles are available of this stuff now too, would drink again, worth trying

Tap. Pours brownish-red with a short off-white head. Nutty and caramel aroma, strangely, without a lot of hops. More of the same in the taste with biscuits, metal and a bitter cascade finish. Lots of caramel. Kind of a malt-bomb for a red. Expected more resin/grapefruit for a SoCal red, but maybe that's just their style.
