Picked up a bomber in late April from Total Wine for $6.99.

Beer poured orange with a very nice head that is leaving lacing behind.

Nose is mildly sweet with some citrus hops.

Taste is classic belgian yeast strain, some coriander, light pepper, citrus hops. Brew has a nice lively zing to it.

Mouthfeel is classic belgian yeast smoothness with a nice lighter body.

Overall this is a brew that is tasty and refreshing, one i would definitely do again!

Initial taste is creamcycle orange. The hop taste remains there but it is an aged taste. Light orange body and a great long lasting head. I just received this bottle from Lueken's Liquors. There may have been some time since brewed, which should not be critical for a Belgian IPA. Good drinkability though not the best I have had in the style .Above average mouthfeel.

Pours dark amber with a large, white head.
Very Belgian aroma, very phenolic with some spicy, herbal and grassy hops too alongside a little light malt.
Similar flavours; spicy and herbal hops, spicy Belgian notes, and a very dry finish.
Too much carbonation.

Pours a golden hue with a creamy three finger head and clingy lacing everywhere, the smell is mandarins, bready Belgian yeast, pepperoni, piney hops and spices, the mouthfeel is medium bodied with above moderate carbonation and has tastes of spicy zesty citrus infused hops, bready Belgian yeast, mandarins, lemons, peaches and finished with a piney hop spicy bitter finish and overall it's a nice mix of Belgian and American IPA and would drink again cheers.

Poured from 650 mL bottle into brandy snifter.

A-Golden yellow with a slight haze. Nice looking and substantial white head that forms easily when pouring. Moderately good retention. Lacing is also quite nice with a wall forming when the glass is tipped. The wall breaks into lines and islands.

S-Musty belgian yeast with some apple fruitiness to it. Could be my bad sense of smell but I maybe also detect some citrus or something a bit more tart.

T-The first thing that strikes me is a bit of funky yeast that saison-like in nature. There is just a slight hint of sweetness at the front of the tongue, presumably from some of the light malts. This is followed by some peppery phenolic flavours, which is finally overtaken by the astringency of the hops. Again, there seems to be some citrusy flavours here, but they are not at all prominent.

M-Somewhat effervescent with a good dose of carbonation. The mouthfeel with light to moderately round. Finishes with a good amount of astringency, but doesn't flatten the palate completely.

O-The hops and yeast strike an interesting balance here and this is a unique beer within my realm of experience. The hop character seems to become more perceptible as I drink the glass down. I enjoyed this beer, but I don't have any comparables when it comes to aggressively hopped belgian style beers.

22oz bottle, 7.5% ABV, cool to see yet another offering from this SoCal brewery available somewhat broadly in Alberta. Sexier screened label than what I see above here now.

This beer pours a clear, glassy medium golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, bubbly, creamy meringue white head, which leaves a random assortment of dainty chain-link fence and chunky blob lace around the glass as it unevenly melts away.

It smells of tart musty apple and pear, a bit of funky yeast, citrus and pine hops, grainy pale malt, lemon-scented cleanser, and further perfumed florals. The taste is bready, grainy cereal malt, more overripe, almost rotten drupe fruit, bitter citrus rind, musty tropical fruit, mildly acerbic pine needles, earthy green yeast, a bit of clove/pepper spiciness, and more booze-infused floral notes.

The bubbles are low-key, frothy at times, and just plain supportive, the body a more-or-less adequate medium weight, and duly smooth, as the hops here don't seem to stray out that far, so good, I guess. It finishes off-dry, the hetero-orchard fruitiness (citrus and apples, mostly) having a go at permanence, while the yeast, bitter hops, and alcohol each seem worthy to stage a coup, but can't really just get it together.

All the hallmarks of the style are here, to be sure - Belgian-style pale ale, on the high end of the alcohol range, and perky, bitter west-coast Yankee hops. Decent, but without flair, my skirt remaining barely ruffled. Sometimes the whole is not better than the sum of the parts, I would say if I was being unduly pissy. Which I am. Sorry.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 25/3/13

A very slight haze in a golden yellow body, a few tiny bubbles but a large well sustained head leaves a few thick rings of lace followed by random patches, thin film stays to the

S sour apple's stronger then I'd like with some lemon honey and herbal tea, the yeast profiles there but I'm not sure that I should be getting banana, there's some cereal and citrus with some clove and spice, good but not great

T lime and lemon rind with more yeast and even a little pine, faint booze and a peppery spice I wasn't really smelling, less sour apple then the nose and its quite different to my surprise and a little better

M slightly syrupy at first but bubbles fluff it up after its in your mouth, thick with a little heat and a long finish

O it hits the spots but still missing something I can't place but I enjoyed it nonetheless, double speak

I've had some good luck with this brewery and I'll keep paying 10$ to try a bomber but I slightly overpaid for this one

The color is a surprise, clear golden colored ale with a puffy white head. Really looks like a lager in the glass.

Smell is sweet and strongly hopped with a strong coriander aroma. Honeysuckle and herbs aroma strongest scent is crushed cardamom.

Starts out sweet and mildly hoppy with a sweet tea after taste. Slight onion taste. Tastes nothing like smell, just a mild Belgian IPA. Coriander is mild and there is a slight sweetness to this.

Mouthfeel is OK.

An OK beer but there are better Belgian IPAs out there.

On tap at Mohawk Bend in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a clear yellow with a foamy white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, spices, and Belgian yeast. Taste is much the same with earthy flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but I think it tastes better than it smells.

A good IPA from coronado. it is a little different, in that it is not a "crisp" ipa, it is a little smokey. this coming off of drinking pliny the younger during beer week in san francisco on february 14, 2013.

A - Golden orange color. Light head, not lacing

S - a little smokey aroma, which also translates into the flavor

T - smokey IPA flavor. not malty, just smokey. i imagine this would be a good campfire IPA.

M - mouthfeel is IPA, hoppy, bitter, but the smokeyness lingers. In a good way.

O - overall, I enjoyed this IPA. given the competition for IPAs today, I would be hardpressed to say i would order another but it was good to try, and if the mood strikes me, I would have another.

Pours a clear golden orange with a spotty, billowy white head. Aroma starts with a lemony tang accompanies with soft spices such as clove and pepper. Very pungent. Flavor is strong with clove, allspice, and pepper. Amazing that it was masked so much in the aroma. Grapefruit and other citrus come through in taste as well. Bitterness is grassy and barkish and strong, lingering a moderate amount. The huge flavors swing back and forth almost balancing each other out. Feel is also balanced with a dry finish. Very interesting and one of the better Belgian IPAs I've had.

Always been a fan of the Belgian IPA substyle - Coronado's version is a nice textbook version - citrus hops, honey, yeast, flowers, a little alcohol bite. Paired nicely with a catfish poboy covered in hot sauce. A nice beer - lots of hops, yeast, clove and spice.

Pours light amber and golden with copious amounts of haze, the head that forms is light and pillowy leaving a steady ring around the glass. Average retention. Overall a good looking beer.

A strong nose with floral hops, red berries, and bitter pine with Belgian character in the yeast, coriander and powder.

Light malt foundation, cookie dough with a touch of cereal grains, hops provide tangerine, honeydew and white peach before becoming lip smackingly bitter coupled with white pepper, coriander and some odd twinges of aluminum. Thin to medium bodied, alcohol well hidden, and decent carbonation. A bit metallic on the finish. Overall it performs well.

Complex Belgian IPA, pretty well put together with the yeast providing tropical varied fruit and the bitter hop kick, alcohol well hidden but it could be smoother. I wouldn't turn this down.

Poured into a pint glass from a fresh bottle.

Appearance: Light amber to gold in color with a solid white head that dwindled down to a thin film of bottles a little too quickly.

Smell: Very good aroma with citrus, flower, and a hint of pine. The citrus has a varied bouquet of tangerine, orange, and a hint of cherry. The citrus is well balanced with a fantastic floral aroma and there is a slight finish of pine.

Taste: Very well balanced in an IPA sense. Hops give flavors of tangerine, grapefruit, floral and pine that is perfectly backed up, but not overshadowed by a sweet, malt taste. One issue was that the floral taste seemed to build upon the palate with each sip which began to wash out the other flavors slightly. That is my only complaint upon an overall excellent taste profile.

Mouthfeel: Good overall texture with with light but adequate carbonation and a medium heft to it.

Overall: This beer has some excellent qualities with some minor drawbacks but overall, I must say that I did thoroughly enjoy this beer.

Glass: Half-pint glass
From: Coronado Brewing Company in Coronado, Calif. (San Diego)
Price: $4.00
Misc.: Had on Jan. 21, 2013

Poured a copper orange clear color with one finger of white head when I got it that dissipated almost right away. Decent uneven lacing on the sides, below average retention on the way down.

Smelled smoky spices, cloves, caramel, toffee and resin hops.

Tasted a bit bitter than the smell. Got cloves mixed with a strong alcohol backbone. Also various spices and slight resin hops.

Light body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. The best part of the beer.

A pretty good Belgian IPA, but a little bit all over the board. Not as smooth as I’d hoped.

Remarkable fruity and spicy aroma greets the first snootful. Attractive amber in the Ommegang chalice with plenty of foamy cap and lacing.

Dry from the start, skipping over any malty sweetness. And it gets drier as the Belgian yeast kicks in. Amazing aromatics with an herbal and flowery hop aroma, and then a spicy, fresh sawdust nose as you breathe out. Quite bitter, so it's more of an IPA with Belgian yeast. Hops are the main event and won't disappoint the IPA hound. Fairly light body. Long, resiny yet perfumey taste ends with a piney bitterness softened by the yeast. Crazy mouthful of flavor.

This current version is listed as 7.5% ABV and 74 IBUs, with the hops being Warrior, Centennial, and Chinook. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Olive Tree in Ocean Beach.

out of bottle, poured into large wine glass

a - light golden color, finger sized heard. sediment in the bottom of the bottle which I swirled in the last part of the pour - results in an overall cloudy look
s - hoppy, a little sweet - somewhat reminisce of nugget nectar smell
t - more bitter than the nose would imply, sneaky bitter at the beginning, very hoppy and bitter on the end, with the end hanging around a bit after the sip. Don't strongly notice the high alcohol content taste at 9% - but it is there subtly on the back end
mf - nice overall, little sharp bubbles on the front but very smooth comforting bubbles on the end

o - not bad for an ipa, a little too bitter for my tastes to just drink alone. Probably great if paired with the right cheese.

A good looking brewski with it's amber body and tall tan headhere, although there is abit of cloudness ruuning through.
Aroma is quite fruity and minty almost.
Taste is hoppy with citrus maybe and tangerine some floral notes too. Bready malts are present as well as some yeast and spice.
Taste good and has a dry hoppy finish but not overly bitter. At 9% one could get quite tipsy on this beer because it drinks quite well.

Orange-y amber with a soapy head top. Sticks awesomely. Nice carbonation rush from the base of the glass.

Pine and citrus hops with an assertive spiciness grinned the Belgian yeast used. Smells purty good.

Piney and spicy hop overload. Tons of bitterness and a nice hit of warm booze from the first sip. This American version is wacky on the hops. Some bitter orange pith, spruce, coriander, and malt sugar. Great bite at first, and everlasting finish. Not a super familiar Belgian yeast quality; barely a Belgian IPA and more of an American Double IPA. Dangerous to slug back in this tall pint.

Decent feel. Thank heavens for the bubbly scrub, or else I'd have finished this one off by now. Body is an almost-medium. Pretty appropriate.

I'm in love with this beer. It's heady, which is to say that it's a little hot. But, a great aggressive hoppiness and interesting spice character with makes for a delicious spin in a Belgian IPA.

Vivo in Ikebukuro is crowded tonight for a Coronado Tap Takeover! I chose Hoppy Daze because I felt like trying out their only Belgian on tap. It is a beautiful orange brew that has a depth almost like looking into tinted crystal. The first sip has an immediate punch of hops (obviously by the name) with an apricot flavor accompanying. There is a great roasted sensation that touches the back of my mouth and warms my ears and my belly. There is also an enjoyable sourness in the aftertaste that reminds me of eating slghtly over-ripened peaches in the summer. After a while of letting it rest, there is also a trace of orange in the scent coming off the glass.

John Lee Hooker is playing on the in-house system, and even though it is a Belgian-style San Diego brew, I feel like I could be sitting in Atlanta enjoying some BBQ and this fine brew.

Two thumbs way up.

Had on tap @ Murphy's Bar & Grill in Honolulu, HI

Appearance: Muddled orangish-gold with a frothy, thinner head.

Smell: Hoppy and Belgian yeast come to mind.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Has a very pronounced Hop forward taste. Getting a bunch of heat from the higher abv. Dry and slightly bitter aftertaste. Not overtly complex.

Overall: As the name would suggest, this a hop assault on the tongue and mouth. It's pretty much a one-note beer for me. Would have liked to see some other flavors complimenting the hops. Not sure where the Belgian part comes into play with this one.

A: Pours light golden, somewhat opaque, with a finger and a half of bright white head. Good retention and leaves behind some pretty lacing.

S: Bubblegum fruitiness, sweetish malt, clove, a little lemon, with floral notes underneath.

T: Wow, super citrusy (grapefruit), bubblegum, finishing with spot-on, moderate grapefruit bitterness which lingers forever. Not as well integrated as it could be.

M: Medium body and medium-light carbonation.

Tulip

A - a beautiful almost translucent golden sunset, half finger off white head and some decent lace

S - wow! Hop bomb! So much hops, citrus, pineapple, pine, smell of the islands, weed, sugar, peaches, crazy sweet almost Belgian yeast, toasty malts and a slight booze

T - holy crap, I just got punched in the face with hops, weed, citrus rinds, nice Belgian yeast, Nice sweet sugariness, no booze in the taste, flowers, grass, fruit orchard and fresh cut wood

M - medium minus body, medium acidity, decent balance, not a lot of complexity and a very long finish

D/O - huge hop bomb. Not at all for anyone who is just a casual fan of hops. This thing is hops from beginning to end. Hop, hops and more hops! Very silky, fresh and has that nice weed flavor

Final thought - for $8 a pop and 9% this is nice but not an every day ipa like idiot. That is the best beer they make by far. Still very nice

Just bought a bottle of this at my local liquor store hearing that it was new and great tasting. So of course i had to check for myself.
A: Poured into a tulip glass with a crazy frothy head that soon fell away into the corners of the beer that lasted the entire sesh. Bright golden in color and clear as day.
S: Wow, this IPA is insane. Citrus lemon, orange and peaches dominate the nostrils.
T: And yes wow again the flavor is just remarkable. Coming in at 9% this beer has no reminisce of a hot alcohol flav but straight up exactly how the smell would taste. Its a great balanced hop bitterness that is complemented by the orange lemony notes. Hints of tangerine on the back of the tongue make this an extremely easy drinking IPA that i would love to drink again.
M: Had a great dryness to it easily allowing you to drink more, but i felt could have used a little more depth in the mouthfeel. Ran just a tad bit too thin.
O: Wow his beer is really amazing. I wouldn't have minded a tad bit more body as well as a little bit more bitterness but the bitterness is not something i would knock it for. Damn good tasting IPA especially for the price.
